    Extremely impressive. Not necessarily the most efficient, but a fascinating and award winning design for sure.

    My team made a blue motor with 7:1 gear ratio flywheel and when we tried using it it would shoot one disc and then stop spinning and start beeping and then we would slap it and it would work again yes we tried diffrent motors and diffrent blue cartridges and the same thing would happen.

    Could you please say what string you are using? We use yarn but there seems to be a lot of friction when the string is unravelling, and it is not able to unravel fully.

    Braided Nylon Rope. It is similar to paracord and we remove the inner strands. We've also used Satin Rattail Cord which seems a bit lighter but like the current option we have.

    how does the string launchers work overall and specifically the release mechanism

  • @team1469a

    @team1469a

    Жыл бұрын

    There are 6 sets of strings. 3 per side at two different levels. The two outer most side strings are at a lower level to ensure they don't shoot out of the field. Each string is angled to hit a set number of tiles. The driver can shoot each side independently or together depending on where they are on the field. We use a pair of pneumatics cylinders, one per side, to lift up a ring of nyloc nuts attached to the end of the strings that are secured on a standoff. They are tensioned by rubber bands or latex tubing to the front of the string holders. When the pneumatic cylinder rises it releases the nylocs from the standoff by raising a polycarbonate plate under them and off they go.

    @@team1469a thank you this really helps and just for clarification the nuts are on the zip ties around the standoffs and the zip ties rest on a polycarbonate plate with a hole for the stand offs

  • @team1469a

    @team1469a

    Correct, but they could be placed directly on the string. We put them on zip ties as we were adjusting the amount needed for each launcher.

    A button press engages a set of gears that pulls the arm back. One of the gears has several teeth missing creating a slip gear. We have a limit switch in place to stop the arm from going down/back too far and just before the gears slip. When the gears turn a little more it gets to the point with gap between two sets of gears and the arm launches due to tension that is being placed on the arm to retract it by a series of rubber bands.

    And don’t they overheat? Because we have green and every 20 min we have to stop cause the motor is hot

  • @team1469a

    @team1469a

    Жыл бұрын

    No, not at least in a dual motor configuration. We can run this same setup using a single motor and have some overheating over time, but nothing that will stop it from running. You may want to check how much friction is being produced on your setup. We've tried to minimize as much friction as possible in our setup. But a 20 min practice vs. 2 min match, sounds like you should be okay at a comp.
