Been following you for a while now. I have been building pc's for decades. My first build was back in the Pentium days where I had to literally scrap other computers to get parts and I was buying memory by the MEG not GIG. Quake II was the FPS of the day when I was going with dual Diamond Monster cards for Open GL acceleration. Getting ready to build my next and probably last rig as my FPS days are pretty much behind me, at 56 my reflexes are not what they used to be, but keep on putting out the best building content on the net...

For gaming, it really doesn't matter. The gains are so little in drives, just grab the cheapest 1. Linus did a test and no one could tell the difference. In fact, everyone thought the sata drive was the fastest. 😂 Once you start video editing or moving files, that's when it pays to get a better drive. But as long as you have at least a sata ssd, you're fine. No need to spend any more. You literally cannot tell.

@firghteningtruth7173 1,800mb/sec for $105 or 7,400mb/sec for $120. That's a no brainer. Plenty of people move games around and do more than just gaming. That's a corner I wouldn't cut to save $15.

@@benknapp3787 I'm sorry, what is the title of this video? 🤣 Moving a game around? Bro, most people just uninstall. Then reinstall. Which is gonna be limited by your internet connection or drive speed. (Disk or thumb) Not the speed of your hard drive. (Ssd in this instance) As I said, if you use the pc for other things, fine, I guess... But booting up and logging into a game, all the experts on linus tech tips that they asked thought the sata drive was faster. If a bootup time is 1.5 seconds. And you half that. Does anyone care? For 20 dollars?🤣

  • @firghteningtruth7173

@@benknapp3787 you could put that 20 dollars into better ram, more space, better peripherals, a slightly better proc, perhaps a little better used gpu? Or another 20 gets you to a solid 5-10 fps better new card. All options are better than yours. For gaming.

Hi Jason, last night my son and I built a new system based on the 4k build in this video, with a couple of changes due to parts availability. We used the same PSU, but went with the ASUS TUF OC version of the RX 7900 XT. Very impressed with the system so far but we did have an issue with the PCIe cables powering the graphics card as there were only 2 supplied with the PSU and the card's manual discourage daisy chaining to plug into the 3 PCIe sockets. We ended up daisy chaining after all, and looked online to order another cable, but couldnt find any for that particular PSU. Searching around the prevailing view seems to be that daisy chaining is ok, but I wanted to ask your take on this?

Used all your recent guides to help me pick parts for my first PC and I couldn’t be happier (actually if Canadian electronics pricing wasn’t literally at a minimum double what the US and EU prices are I could be😢😢😢) Got a ryzen 5600, 6700 xt, MSI pro b550m-vc wifi mobo, 16gb 3200 cl16 RAM, 1tb mp44l m.2, A 750w PSU, Asus AP201, 3 case fans and keyboard and mouse For a bit over $1300 CAD It’s handled EVERY game so far wonderfully the only game it dips below 60 fps (very occasional) is Hell divers 2, that games crazy with the hardware usage. ultra/high preset @1440p Native is normally 100% cpu Util and 94-99% GPU Util. sitting around 60-80 fps w millisecond drops into the high 50’s which I can live with. If it ever bugs me I can drop to 1080 and upscale it. My eyes not trained so I can’t tell between native and upscaled 1440p anyway. Anyways I just wanted to update the man who helped make my inner child happy. Thanks, Jason. I’ll definitely recommend you to anyone

🙂 i think thats a good pairing assuming your using only 1 monitor, i wouldnt touch anything. I assume you have 32gb of system ram. And I assume u r updating ur bios regularly. I assume u r on Windows 11 PRO. Now if ur itching to upgrade then what I would do is purchase an additional monitor or maybe two more mointors. Set them all up on monitor arms and free up desk space. With the additional monitors then YES I could see the reason to pickup a faster video card with alot more VRAM, but rite now I would still use that video card. Hope that helps. I'm using that GPU too, I have three of them 😄

The microcenter deal right now is a 7800x3d, gigabyte b650 gaming motherboard, and g.skill flare x5 32gb ddr5-6000 kit for $469.99. You would need a better cooler so it would still be a little more but performance wise it would be a pretty big upgrade. Of course this is an instore only so hard for everyone to take advantage of it.

Definitely happens. I've found that if I press the fan in somewhat lightly as it is spinning until it slows to a stop, this can sometimes fix it (I believe this spreads the lubricant better inside the fan, but honestly not sure). If it persists, I'd switch out the fan. For GPUs, on my Hellhound 7900 XT it had one fan that was making a noise and I did this several times over the course of a week and eventually it went away but I was about to return it.

Hey Jason. I bought on an offer a upgrade kit formed by ryzen 5 5600g, 32 gb ram and a Gigabyte Motherboard to revive an older pc, that has a Seasonic 620 watt psu from 2014. My question to you is this: I want to play at 1440p as i own a 4k Benq Monitor. In my country there is only a 20 dollar difference between the 16 gig RTX 4060TI and the 7800xt. I don't know what to do. If i buy the Rtx i should be fine with that psu, but if i go with the 7800xt or the cheaper 7700xt, acording to Amd i should have a 750 watt Psu and i should buy another Psu. Do you think i should stay with the Rtx or should i buy the 7700xt/7800xt and upgrade the Psu? Thanks.

  • @PCBuilderChannel

    @PCBuilderChannel

    3 ай бұрын

Regardless of which GPU you choose, I would replace the PSU from 2014 as it is way past its age at this point and the PSU is the component that ages the fastest and can cause the worst problems. The Ryzen 5600G is going to struggle to keep up with the 7800 XT, but that would likely give you the most FPS especially if you have a 4K gaming monitor (I would turn up the resolution to 4K as that will give you the smallest CPU bottleneck). Hope that helps.

🙂 Broh, theres something ur not asking because maybe u don't know. Not all monitors will display the bios screen with an RX card. Whereas if u go Invidia u are almost garanteed support on any monitor and any tv anywhere in the world. Go research ur monitor and make sure that u can see the bios screen with RX cause if u can't then u have to consider replacing the monitor as well if u go RX or maybe u have another monitor in the house that is compatible? As for that power supply if its still working then maybe keep it for a spare pc and find it an older motherboard like maybe an i7 4790 or something like that but don't be using that power supply for ur new computer but for something old it mite be OK, Seasonic is pretty decent. So u go two things to check: Monitor compatiblity with RX and ur going to need a new power supply no matter what card.

Running a ryzen 5 5600, 6700xt, 16gb ram, 1Tb ssd, on 750w power supply. What would be the best way to upgrade this without ripping the whole thing apart and building a whole new computer? I run triple 1440p monitors mostly for racing games which gives me about 55-80 fps depending on the title at mid graphics settings. When I use it for FPS games it still is a great build (using only a single monitor) but looking to achieve higher graphics settings and fps for racing titles.

if ur itching to do something to it then I would focus on replacing the cpu with a ryzen 7 3d chip or ryzen 9 something if u just like cores and threads or just for fun. The video card upgrade is a bag of worms u got so many choices so I dont know about that maybe whatever u like i guess. And that 16gb of ram is triggering me. If u have four ram slots then take a pic of ur ram sticks and purchase two more identical sticks and bring that board up to 32gb. And step up to Windows 11 of course. And update ur bios. And tune the bios and keep ur cpu below 70. Have you tried Euro Trucker and American Trucker? What about Mudrunner and Snowrunner 😏 u got a wheel shifter and pedals broh?

🙂 normally monitors have different refresh rates, theres a slower speed if u use an HDMI cable, and theres a faster speed if u use a Display Port Cable, what some people do is they have two monitors or three montors, the display port cable is running the video game, while the hdmi cable is doing something like running a live chat OR ur watching a youtube video because u need a walkthru cause ur lost 😄 Also sometimes you won't see the bios screen if ur using display port, so thats why the second monitor is using the hdmi port so u can use that monitor to adjust ur bios setting. Depends on the monitor tho. I think now theres some monitors that support the same speed using either type of cable. Also please note that theres different revisions of the cable, so maybe to get the fastest speed u need a more expensive cable that has the most recent updates built into it. Look at the specs of the monitor and the cable and match them.

Is it worth it to drop the cpu down to the one in the 1500 build you have here and go with a better gpu. I've heard cs2 uses all the cores you can throw at it. But i also want the build to be balanced for other games as well. Cs 2 will be the primary game for sure though. As always i like watching these to get ideas as im going to be building soon.

i would stick with AM4, am5 is kinda sketchy due to ddr5, theres all kinds of compalints online about bios update breaking stuff, if u have spare pcs and spare backups to hold u over if ur system breaks then u can take a chance on am5, but if u have a mission critical scenario that it 'has to work' then stick with ddr4 motherboards, i have both so i dont care if a board breaks but not everybody has backup pc's

Great board, make sure to update the bios to the latest (non-beta) version. IMO I like the Tomahawk a bit better due to the higher quality audio codec, but that's a very very minor point and you can't go wrong with either, especially if you won't be using the onboard audio.

🙂 the TOMA, i checked and this has M Flash, im pretty sure u can update the bios without a cpu, so update the bios to the most recent and then ur cpu should boot. The board has TWO 8pin plugs for the CPU, normally u only need to plug in one, but if u want to plug in the second 8pin plug then buy a better more expensive power supply, usually u want to look at the 750 watts psu or better but make sure u check the specs because only some models have the two 8pin cpu plugs, double check, and of course double check your cpu is on the motherboard support list, dont assume anything. Trust But Verify.
