HOW I MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

    The angle cutoff wheels last longer with less pressure. Hold'er steady and let edge of the disc eat. If you're grinding the face of the disc will accept more pressure. Hope this helps

I have been watching him for years now and between your two channels it has motivated me to begin collecting the apparatus I will need to do my own pours and refining in a very minor, hobby style way. Greetings BigStackD from New York. I have to say that I am a fan of your videos and I appreciate the educational value you added by putting captions in the videos to explain what you are doing. Even though these videos are "ASMR", I find myself up late at night watching and learning on your videos when I should be sleeping. But it is all good! You are one of my favorite DIY KZread Content Creators and you have inspired me to use tools and think about solving problems. I so wish that I could melt down metals in my area but that is so not allowed, I may have to move to another state to even begin considering getting a furnace and start reclaiming metal. The one last thing I have to do is get over my fear of fire. I have been burned a few times in my life and I try to avoid messing with things that can potentially go BOOM! But I am learning so that fear will be turned into knowledge, then wisdom! I hope you, your loved ones and your cute furbabies are doing well! I enjoy seeing Ingots and Bullion on your videos! And finally, another reason why I can't relax during your videos, you cook some delicious items on your shows and that makes me hungry! LOL But I truly love everything in your videos, thank you so much for them. I will be looking into the other videos you have for more information on furnaces and salvage!!! Thanks again and stay safe.

    A pretty awesome melt but even more awesome was how well you tidied up outside the shop and around the melt yard. That is a funky shade of pink you chose. I kinda like it but was hoping for a Pepto Bismol pink which woulda been even more funky. Needs a Big Stack D sticker to dress it up a bit more. Coulda sworn you'd already done one full crucible beehive shaped aluminum ingot on a previous melt but I didn't see it on the shelf. I guess that was the one you melted down into bars.

    Nice video, bigstackD! Just a suggestion, if you want to remove the silver contacts from all of those brass/copper items you're setting aside, just set up your torch and use it to heat the contacts and remove with pliers. That way, you can keep them separated and build up the silver and be able to melt the rest. If you want to go that route. See ya next Friday!

    Or use a chisel because it's probably silver soldered onto the copper... Minimal waste and separate melt to sreetips for usage

    I hope you have a great weekend as well. My God at how much copper was in that thing. An incredible amount and I loved watching as usual. You never fail to entertain me. Those birds sounded very loud. Every week I see improvements to your property and I'd love to know where you get all of your energy. The amount of things you accomplish every week is utterly amazing to me. Always looking forward to next week's video. 💙✌️

    As you opened that thing up, considering how old it was likely to have been, I figured anything in it that carried current was going to be copper. Once upon a time copper was a lot less expensive.

    Here's a tip for you. Use a larger propane tank, and it won't frost up as easily. You can also manifold 2 tanks together to increase the withdrawal rate, which reduces freezup. I use a 100-lb tank, and it won't freeze up unless it's nearly empty.

  • @bigstackD

    @bigstackD

    I thought about getting bigger tanks and I would save 15% in my gas costs but to get the bottles swapped over I have to go all the way into town it’s about an hour round-trip, whereas these small tanks I use are handy and portable and to replace them it’s only a 20 minute round-trip and I normally replace five or six at a time when I go to Bunnings👍🏻.

  • @sddirt6840

    @sddirt6840

    @bigstackD I would guess that a 100 lb. Tank would last at least as long as 6 of the small ones. A 100-pounder holds 24 gallons of propane, and the little BBQ ones hold 4 gallons.
