14 hours on a Chinese sleeper train to the North Korean border?! (North Korea Vlog; Borders Pt.1).

I travel from Beijing to Dandong on the North Korean border in China's northeast. It's a train I've been on around 30 times before but I'd largely forgotten what it's truly like...
Join me on this video as we travel from China's capital city for all the way up to the North Korean border. I help you prepare, take you through the ins and outs of Beijing train station, as well as giving you an insight into what life on a Chinese sleeper train is really like...
Think you could survive it?

Dont get me wrong, bullet trains in China are amazing but its all about the old green sleeper trains. So many great memories on them when I lived in China. No chance you'll be able to smoke and meet randomers between carriages in them bullet trains.

Agreed, I actually much prefer the sleeper trains to the bullet trains!

I’ve only just discovered your channel but very interesting stuff seeing bits and bobs about the hermit kingdom of NK 👌 I don’t know if you’ve done this before but would you ever do a little vlog in China? I’m quite curious about that country too as I believe there’s so much to see with it’s sheer size and many different varieties of cultures, dialects/languages etc - yet it’s a bit of a complicated place too 😅

Welcome aboard! actually I started vlogging just in Dec 2019 (i.e. right before the pandemic) so haven't had much of a chance to do china stuff as i was stuck outside for most of it. A few more vids to come, though!

Isn’t North Korea still closed? Or do you have special allowances to be there? (sorry I just found the channel I’ll catch up on all the videos for sure though it’s fascinating)

How difficult would it be for one who knows no Chinese to take this train ? The train station did not seem to have any signage in the Latin alphabet.

it's tricky but not impossible. I'd advise looking up some key vocab but it's a lot easier now if you buy them online as they tickets will be in english - you don't have to worry about trying to navigate where you need to go. But like anywhere or doing anything in China - it's tricky but not impossible!
