    You did a nice job pointing out the many things that make VT enticing! Having been to all 50 states, I will always rank Vermont in my top 10 (along with NH and Maine). Nothing like Cold Hollow Market and Cider Mill on a crisp, fall day, and the many beautiful villages - Woodstock, Manchester, Grafton, Middlebury, Dorset, Norwich, Wilmington, Weston, Stowe, Plymouth and so many more! I am not a winter lover, but enjoy taking a winter vacation in VT. The country roads, church suppers, Shelburne, even Church Street in Burlington, lots of history, and don't forget the wonderful diners. I am not fond of the Left wing politicians like Bernie and Leahy, but I have enjoyed numerous wonderful trips to VT in all 4 seasons, especially a bike trip I took in the CT River Valley one late Sept/early Oct - staying in inns all along the way. Your easy manner was compatible with the friendly, easy-going nature of the people of Vermont. I absolutely love Cabot cheese and can get it at local stores now, where I used to have to order it online. Lots of great arts & crafts throughout the state as well. Hard to pick a favorite town, as there are so many great ones. Also enjoy Lake Willoughby. Best wishes!

    @@janetrauger3876 There are several ranking systems covered in videos. Sometimes NH, CO or another state is right up there, too, but VT is always top 5, and consistently has the lowest crime rate in America, and it is 49th in population (WY), so it's rural beauty should always keep it nice. I also love its close proximity to Montreal, the most European city in North America, as long as Trudope and the Covid Cult loons do not close the border.

    No billboards?! Thank you, you just moved me one step closer to moving to VT! I can't stand billboards. I didn't realize there were states that had outlawed them. That's fantastic. I googled it and found that Maine has the same law, and Maine is another state I've been considering. Do you know enough about Maine to do some comparison videos between the two states?

    @calm day out today that's why we moved as we use to live on the Gulf Coast and the weather is getting more and more extreme down there as well as the town of Foley which I was born and raised has grown 10 fold and isn't the small close-knit community of my childhood. My kids love the fall and winter and things are at a slower pace which we love. We joke about moving into a Norman Rockwell painting.

    @@surviversmiles8315 this is a flat out lie. I live in Addison County, I happen to have grown up on a farm, my dad and grandparents own 3, lots of my friends in school all grew up on farms. Lots of wide open acreage. Did you grow up in the middle or Rutland or Winooski and never leave them? VT builds hardly anything a year. Too many laws to do so. By your one million negative comments on all my videos, half of them super exaggerated or just lies, I think you probably could spend your time enjoying the state you moved to rather than trying to deter others from this state that plenty of people, myself including love. And yes, there used to be way more farms, small farms don't thrive in VT because it's not super business friendly and milk prices are usually not very good.

    Im from Vermont and while it is a beautiful state, the fact is that this video mentions none of the negatives. Out of staters moved in in such numbers they have ruined it. Incredibly high taxes, inept government, property prices through the ceiling, lots of expenses associated with winter, long commute times, you can find work, but not a lot of good jobs, high tuition, winter its dark when you get up and dark when you come home. Lots of woke people have fled NYC and other cesspools like locusts to the State and expect locals to change to their ways, left is eroding our previously very open gun laws et. seq.

    I moved to Vermont from Washington state in 2020 with no money as a solo female in my 30s. Worked for the state but it was not enough to support myself. It is a very expensive state, and if you are solo with no support, I would not recommend moving there. Most local people were not friendly, even though I am not rich by any means and just tried to start my life there from scratch (Im originally from Europe). The state is full of prejudice and exclusive-ness, which is not the vibe I was searching for. I totally understand many capitalist-minded people may not be a good fit for the state, but this perception should not apply to everyone. There are good hard-working middle class people too in their prime age ready to start a family etc etc.., and the state needs those people... . This year I had to make a difficult decision to leave as I couldn't find "my" people, it was sad. Now I live in Michigan and it is a way WAY more welcoming state with way more polite folks. Maybe one day I can return to Vermont once I find my pair. But dont move there if you are single and dont have friends or/and relatives. You may feel lonely.

    Family from Michigan here desperately wanting to move to Vermont. I was born and raised in Metro Detroit and now that I have my own family, I wanna move them to a safer, more wholesome environment. Everything about Vermont seems right up our alley. All I know is the longer I live on the outskirts of Detroit, the more miserable I become 😢 I heard there is a new program called 'Stay to stay' in Vermont... Is that still going on?

  • @LivinginVermont

    @LivinginVermont

    Hey Candace, the stay to stay program was stopped because of Covid and hasn't returned since. On their website it says they will return, but who knows when that will be... As far as I am aware Vermont currently doesn't have any incentive programs to move to Vermont, although in the past they've had them almost every year... Either way though I would say you'll definitely get a safer, more wholesome life in Vermont. Don't be afraid to reach out if you need anything!

    You will love it. It has the 4 seasons and purer - not all that freeze-thaw and slush of Detroit and a lot more sun. Lake Champlain will give you a taste of the Great Lakes, and som nice inland lakes. Detroit has more violent crime on a weekend than Vermont in an entire year. If you want big city fun, Montreal is really close, Boston is near as well, and even NayC is only 4 hours. They all offer more than Detroit could. I, too, was raised in Detroit (& SCS), buy left as soon as I graduated UM. Have seen all 50 states and do not miss MI one iota - though still have lots of family stuck there).

    Not lies. I never said Burlington didn't have crime. And if you did any looking you'd see this video is a few years old and it's mostly in the past 2-3 years where Burlington crime has gone up

    There's a housing crisis in the whole US. 5 million few homes. New builds will eventually catch up. Whether or not you will welcome the people who are going to come either way, I will. 😃

    @@LivinginVermont HA! I used to be welcoming. then the single family home next to me was renovated and turned in to 4 apartments. New neighbors up at all hours of the night, yelling and screaming, breaking windows, coming into my yard to retrieve items they hurled out the window in a fit of rage, glass all over my yard they left me to clean up. They drive like maniacs, turning what used to be a safe street into a death trap, and I have young children. They stand outside smoking so all the smoke goes in my open windows. They have an air conditioning vent blowing cigarette smoke right into my window. They play video games on surround sound speakers all night, making sleep a fitful experience. All from out of state. Okay, fine. Bad neighbors happen, I get it. I will move. But wait. I can't. For every rental that comes available, there are 100 potential applicants in the first 24 hours of the ad going up. I moved into my current residence three years ago, it was the first place I looked at and able to move right in. Now I've been looking for months. Landlords saying all out-of-staters moving in, offering way more than fair market value. There are building restrictions in Vermont, so not sure where these new houses will come from. Part of Vermont's charm is that it is remote, so why would we even want them? Of course you are a real estate broker, you are benefiting from this, of course you are welcoming. LOL. Come live next to my new neighbors and then not be able to move, tell me how that works out for you. They are here because COVID rates are low, my cousin had no problem finding a place in Missouri. It's like we are being punished for doing the right thing and flattening the curve. This is my home, I don't want to go to MIssouri

    Yes that's unfortunate about your neighbors, bad neighbors will come and go, just like this crisis will eventually pass. UVM has record high enrollment, out of staters are realizing Vermont is a great place to live, and VT is slow to build and has lots of housing restrictions. I'm not totally against the housing restrictions because I love the way VT is, but let's be real, people from big cities are moving out of the cities to rural areas and something will have to budge. I don't have a great solution, but I don't think discouraging people to move to Vermont because people who've been here first think they get first dibs is going to work. And you are partly right, people moving helps real estate agents to a degree, except that we have hardly anything to show buyers and virtually nothing for people looking to rent before buying. I don't mean to sound rude because I get it, it sucks for a lot of people, but when Vermont spends way more money than it has, more rich taxpayers are exactly what we need. If you had the budget to outbid everyone else to escape your new neighbors would you not do so?

    @@LivinginVermont I know rich taxpayers are what we need, that's why I was welcoming at first, and when I find a decent place, I may be welcoming again lol. It's not even about outbidding people atm, it's a straight up lottery to try to find a place, and the more people that come the more it makes me think Vermont will soon just be like 'everywhere else,' full of rude indifferent people, crazy drivers, line cutters, and litter all over public trails (not to mention dog feces). These are just a few of the things I've noticed an increase in since COVID hit and my town filled up (more than usual) with extended stay tourists. It makes me miss when the tourists would poke fun of Vermont a little bit for being too hippie-dippy and too cold, and then leave! Now they all want to live here

    Living in Vermont "If you had the money to outbid, wouldn't you?'' Kind of a messed up way of looking at the world. The average person doesn't have the money to outbid, so most of us struggle to move or pay rent as everything gets out of hand. Everything is becoming only for the rich and the whole saying about the middle class disappearing is becoming more and more true. It's super alarming and scary stuff.
