#13 Full time van Life. I missed the Grand Canyon. I did it! My first BLM boondocking experience.

Please do not use moth balls in your vehicle while you are in it! See my next video for retraction and suggestions.
I really wanted to see the Grand Canyon. Cottonwood was an oasis after a long stretch in the desert and Jerome, Arizona was a pleasant surprise. I have a problem - mouse!

I parked my motor home and Jeeped to Jerome (I tow a Jeep Wrangler) … great that you got the footage as I found it hard to look around and stay on the road !! Re mice. I have never had any luck with peppermint or moth balls and I have to be careful with peppermint oil as I have a cat. 2 things have worked for me and I’ll probably be blasted for one of them :). First is light, yes light. Maybe tricky in your setup, but if you can run some led lights in the headliner and/or engine and/or under your vehicle … that is what has worked for me in my RV and my little house in the woods. The second thing is a kill trap and I use battery powered mouse electrocution traps. Victor brand. Bated with peanut butter. It is instant kill vs the spring traps and you can dump the body in the trash without touching it. Especially when traveling, I think it is important not to take mice with you to another area. I don’t like killing creatures, but the fact is that they can be dangerous as well as destructive. I have used live traps, but for whatever reason they do not seem as effective as the electronic, even bated the same ???

Hi Liz. 👋 I had a windshield mount for filming Jerome. I couldn't ever use the spring traps again. Instant is better. The mouse is gone and I'm going to use lights on the ground and Irish Spring. I'll report on those in future.

Hi Jan. I've been to Jerome. My sister and I drove there from Prescott. Yes crazy drive in back of a semi who didn't take the correct exit. He stopped and waved us down and asked us if we could drive ahead and wave to people to warn them to slow down. On the switchbacks his rig had to use both lanes! When he got into town he got a police escort 😄. We had hamburgers at the haunted restaurant and watched him having a long conversation with the cops. Fun day!

Since I found your site I'm loving it and going back to watch them all. The more I see the more I love you. So many things in common. That recliner depressing life. I'm 71 and my little class c rv is named "Butterfly Belle II" in remerance of my mamma who always wanted this life style but health kept her from it. Her name was Belle and she loved butterflies. I have a sweet fur baby "Tootsie" who is an 11 year old mini poodle. I'm in my second class c, more like B+. I got so enthusiastic on first one and got in over my head financially with that one, because I still have a home. So sold it and now have an old one I love. In process of some rehabbing right now. Have not taken off cross country but you are inspiring me so that I'm ready to, once rehab complete. Keep going girl and thank you for sharing your travels and being such an inspiration to us "senior women" Hugs

And the mice hate it it doesn't kill them it runs them away and it's not harmful for the dogs. But I found this really works it's $11 on Amazon it's a spray bottle. thanks for the video. We drove through Jerome back in 1976 with our 19 ft trailer, my husband said, never again. Now with a motorhome it might be less stressful. Thanks for the beautiful scenery and music. Congratulations on boondocking.

Thank you! I really enjoyed seeing Cottonwood and your drives through the beautiful Arizona scenery. That's good to know mice don't like peppermint oil. I have mice come in sometimes as we back onto farmland and I use humane traps (the mouse is trapped and kept alive, to be released elsewhere) baited with chocolate and nuts. Best wishes, and Happy travels! Catherine.

It is so fun to ride along with you! Your style & topics are delightful. Do you have crates for your dogs or how do you ensure that they don’t bark or no nosy folks call the police? Maybe those folks aren’t out as early or late as much?

Thank you, imaredhead1. It's good to have you with me. 🙂 Not crates. They wear harnesses and seat belts for safety. When the window covers are thy don't bark at all, even when someone talks right outside the window. I have a tip for to eliminate barking that will be in my next video. 👍

I am in a super small town right now in Arizona called Springerville. My hubby and I are on our way to Sedona tomorrow for 1 week. We are celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary there. If you are still in the area I would surely love to meet up with you before you move on towards your Redwood Trees! Will you still be in that area for this next week till June 2nd?

I watched but I missed the location of your boondocking. Where did you boondock? I bought the app US Public Lands that Bob recommended and have been scouting out my first BLM location. I'm nervous because it's been shared by some nomads that it's not that safe parking on BLM land alone.

This one was on forest road 525 between Cottonwood and Sedona. In the last video I was on BLM land outside of Pahrump, Nevada. Quite a few women nomads that I know feel safer far from cities. I did it alone near Cottonwood but with a group near Pahrump. I feel better with a group. 🙂

Pretty drive .Looks like BLM roads are well maintained. It's is interesting how many houses seem to defy gravity in such places. A friend told me she learned that moth balls are toxic to us humans & our fur babies to breath. So I'd research more & be cautious. I know the peppermint oil heavily scented cotton balls will chase mice away. They apparently really dislike the scent.
