123 - Wood Stove Challenge - Heat & cools home! | DROLET - TUNDRA II WOOD FURNACE

Ойын-сауық

David from KZread channel RCAF Polarexpress gave a challenge to those that have a wood stove. So here is my wood stove video, well actually it's a wood stove on Steroids. If you burn wood or are thinking of burning wood to heat your home come along to learn more about a wood furnace and how it may work for you through the insight that I provide. My wood furnace heats in the winter and cools in the summer.

Spending time outdoors doing projects with various machines and tools - anything from cutting trees, firewood, clearing brush, milling wood, plowing snow, reviewing, repairing & fabricating equipment. Doing landscaping and maintenance on my forested property using my Kubota tractor.
And its not all work!! Gotta take time to play - after turning my pond into a skating rink, and a whole bunch more of outdoor activities.

    Just came from Sir David's RCAFpolarexpress channel. Very thorough review of your wood furnace. I had considered a wood (or pellet) furnace to tie into my existing duct work, but I don't have the room in my tiny cellar in this old farmhouse. Thanks for sharing. -Rick

    Great overview of your system Paul 👍🏻. We used to have a wood/electric furnace when we bought the house, it was all new to me (city boy 😉) and at one point we had a minor chimney fire and that scared the …. Out of me 🤷🏼‍♂️, so we changed it to a propane York furnace and 17yrs later we now have a new Carrier furnace. I noticed you had a Spiderman looking over you and you also have one on your tractor, who is the Spiderman fan in the family? My son is also a fan he even has a tattoo on his forearm. Happy holidays to you and your family Paul 👍🏻🙂🙋🏼‍♂️🇨🇦🎄⛄️🎅🏻🥂

    Thank you kindly Luc. I can definitely see a chimney fire being scary. Growing up with wood stoves and having wood stoves throughout my adult life I did learn at a very young age the importance of keeping stove pipes and chimney flues clean. I am the opposite, I am not comfortable with gas or propane heating systems (country boy). Yeah I do like Spiderman and it's nice to hear that your son is a fan as well. Happy holidays to you and your family and all the best in 2024!

    Thanks for the video.i have a drolet heat commander stove very similar to yours..I installed it before this past winter and I love it.. thinking about a barometric damper because I'm not able to get a 8 hr burn yet..cleaned mine twice so far and I don't have any creosote to be worried about yet but get a lot of soot..

    Good morning, Paul, and Merry Christmas! Very interesting video! I have been thinking about this for a while, however, my heating system is hydronic. I wonder if they make a boiler style that could be installed in my basement? I'll have to check it out!

    Good morning John and Merry Christmas! I am really happy with the warmth in the winter and the cooling in the summer that my wood furnace system provides. When I was in college we rented a house that had a hydronic heating system and it was super warm inside during the winter months. I know of this one here in Canada biothermic.ca/products/firewood-heating/ If you ever install one I hope you make a video, I would be interested in it.

    Hey Paul! As always very good and detailed info! I know when we got the house and called for insurance and informed them the woodstove was coming out and furnace was coming in they were thrilled haha! That unit must've been a beast to move in place!!! Where do you store your firewood to gave easy access? I missed it but how often do you have to refill the box? We are gonna go the external boiler route so the wood stays outside of the house and we can heat 4+ structures off of 1 boiler, hopefully!! Happy holidays! Cheers, Alex!

  • @JelenOutDoors

    @JelenOutDoors

    Thanks Alex. Yup the insurance companies don't like wood stoves. The main unit was a bit of a challenge to get into place. Refilling the fire box frequency depends on the type of wood, how much is inserted, how tightly packed and what the temperature thermostat is set at. At the bottom of the stairs where I bring the wood in, about 15 feet from the wood furnace I store two thirds of a face cord then replenish the stack whenever required. I really like the external wood boilers. You keep the mess outside, the wood close. They do have a few cons but the pros sure out weight them. Happy holidays to you and your family!

  • @JelenOutDoors

    Hi there and thanks! I purchased it from Home Hardware in Canada. It works really well supplying ample heat to various rooms in the house. The room that the furnace is in doesn't need one of the ducts blowing heat into it. The furnace itself provides enough radiant heat in that room. One thing that is a must is having a thermostat to operate the damper. The firebox can take a good supply of firewood for longer burn cycles. Very happy with it. Have a great day!

    Thank you for this video! Everything is quite clear and well explained. I was wondering about the AC unit you put in there, I would like to do the same installing a heat pump/ac but I am not sure how to go about it. Did you come across plans for how to setup the interior where you have the summer and winter baffles?

  • @JelenOutDoors

    @JelenOutDoors

    6 ай бұрын

    Your welcome and thank you for watching! I have a dual split heat /ac pump on the other side of the house. The main outdoor unit is connected to the ductless indoor units with refrigerant pipes and electrical wire. For my wood furnace the plenum, ducts and baffles are all custom made on the fly to specifically fit the wood furnace and gym room configurations. No plans were made. The baffles for winter and summer just channel the air flow accordingly to the season. Have a great weekend!
