Chances are high if Matt isn't on a first-name-basis with the chief, they're at least familiar with each other. I imagine the phone call went something like this: Matt: Hey, I want to make my annual New Year bonfire bigger. Is that okay? FD: Matt, we told you before, it's on your land and as long as you want to keep it reasonable, we don't care. Matt: Well, it's going to be 100 dry Christmas trees. FD: 100? Ok, well, just be sure you have enough people to cover the spreading embers. Matt: And I plan to use accelerant, high-speed fuses, and fireworks. FD: Can we please come watch the show? We'll bring the hot dogs and marshmallows.
