    I’ve had the exact same thing happen to my pond. The koi goldfish hybrids grew significantly faster than the all koi fry and ended up eating all the kois. I had a tank full of the hybrids at the end of the summer. This year I removed all my goldfish so it’s only koi. Much less cannibalism but at least they’re growing at the same rate so it’s easier to manage

    I’ve managed to growth 2500 + baby oscars without any problems. There was days when I lost 1 fish in batch of 800 ! The key is to feed them properly. Your fry was well underfeed ! In about 72 hrs from hatching (sometimes less) when the yellow sack going down you need to feed them with freshly hatched food like artemia. You need to be there on spot on time ! Every one of them need to have big belly. My oscars in about 2 months have about 3 cm in lenght. Have a look at my videos.

    I tried to breed my severums and then the mom ate the eggs every time she would lay them..that experience made me miss my convict Cichlid pair as I didn’t have to do anything they raised the babies up with no issues every single time

    @@quentinjohnson7683 just water hyacinths and a few potted lily pads. I have maybe 75 babies this year that I'm going to pick a few out before I trade them. They were spawning on Father's Day weekend. The 4 I removed from the pond at the end of the season are 3" to 4" the rest of them were kept in tubs w/ airstone and plants are 1" to 1 1/2", I still have 2 that are about 1/2". I'm sure if I was not grinding high protein pellets into powder once they were brought in, I'd have maybe 15 left. I feel it comes down to how much time are you willing to spend in order for them to eat?

    Maybe your goldies spawn at the same time, coz the big ones looks kinda more like a gold fish. Also i know that silver crucian can breed with other carp species, but only females with males. I dont know if its possible with the gold fish tho

    Thank you. Helpful video. I have two ponds. An upper pond with 14 koi and two very juvenile gold fish and a lower pond. They are connected by a stream too shallow for the fish to pass. My lower pond that didn’t have fish is now swarming with baby fish. We have no idea if they are koi or goldfish but given that the goldfish in the upper pond are only a few months old we are guessing they are koi. I’m crossing my fingers that the fish are cannibals. The pond size won’t support the several hundred baby fish. Draining the pond and getting rid of the babies would be a significant undertaking and would be emotionally draining for me. Your video gives me hope that this will sort itself out. Thank you.

    Those are called Toby's when they get you have to keep your eyes on them. I had the same thing happen when I inadvertently ended up with koi fry. My fish had spawned and had trashed the plants I put in the pond so I moved the plants to Rubbermaid tubs and then I left for the airport. I came home 5 days later and I'm checking on the plants and I see these little tiny fish swimming around, so I asked Google. How do I keep koi fry alive? I had one huge one and noticed that there seem to be less baby fish so I started splitting everybody up in size. The biggest ones would get moved into their own tank and then the smallest one stayed in the tank by themselves and I put the medium ones together. So if you can split them up according to growth rate I didn't end up with any more problems that I saw. I just watched their size differences and if one got three times the size of another one he would go into the medium tank. I ended up with 104 (out of about 120 when I started as best I could count). I too was horrified to find out that the biggest ones would eat their brothers and sisters! And my fry or dining on hard boiled egg with spirulina four times a day and crushed coy pellets as soon as they got a little bit bigger. I gave away about 90 or so and still have about 7:00 in my pond. Is there 4 years old now and they're gorgeous!

    Hello sir, I wanted to ask a question. I have a small pond, I got a couple koi and shubunkin and comets, I wanted to ask what's the best method for aeration. I currently have a pump connected to a fountain but wanted to ask as the pond isn't deep

  • @dwsdarius

    The goal is to achieve as much surface agitation as possible. My waterfalls force creates ripples that reach about half the length of the pond. Airstones and waterflow are the main two ways to add oxygen to your water and it really depends on your pond. If your pond isn't deep enough for air stones to have enough disturbance on the surface then perhaps adjusting your filter output for the most amount of movement is the better option

    Hi, I have this friend who likes to take some of the koi fry born in the summer and put in a tank over the autumn and winter months. The problem is that we have noticed one individual that simply isn't growing. Several months have passed and it's size has barely increased. Is there anything we can do to help it grow normally or is it too late by now?

    Usually it is adults eating their children not siblings killing each other, I often see it with Platy fish even though they have small mouths. It seems the mouth size to body size is a significant factor.

  • @dwsdarius

    @dwsdarius

    2 жыл бұрын

    Way bigger indeed, black arowana get just over 3ft long and love swimming space, the pacu will get close to the same length and with added body height...so really the tank would have to be atleast 8ft long and 4ft wide and 3-4 ft tall. That'll be over 700 gallons

    Its all about service agitation. If your water fall disturbs a good portion of your ponds service than is should be sufficient, however if not than air stones will be beneficial.

    It's a survival thing. They know the pond is not big enough to safely contain all those fish if they actually hatch and grow so they lower their population to prevent overpopulation. If the pond had been much larger and/or if there were more predators, they would allow the eggs to hatch.
