Great video and great tip to plant lettuce at the same time, both in a sunny spot and in a shaddy spot to get a later harvest. I do that as well!

Hey quick question re nasturtiumis. On the seed pack it says full sun. I have babies now growing in partial to full. Are they gonna burn up?
James I was having a bad day until I saw your video notification pop up. I watched today not for info but for energy. Thank you.

Another jersey guy here James grew up in Middletown, now living in the Pocono's. Love your channel one of the better one's, nice to see someone who loves gardening so much an is super enthusiastic. My three daughter's live in Brick Twp right by you, an am trying to get them interested in gardening, starting them with earth boxes, so far so good, maybe in the future start a raised bed an really learn the art of growing, will see, keep doing what your doing.
You should tell folks that malabar spinach is a climbing vine, and loves to grow on a trellis, fence, wall, etc. it has a lovely purple stem and glossy green leaves. It is a beautiful decoration that is edible and can tolerate extreme heat. I am glad I just got turned on this variety. By the way Malabar is the southwest coast of India!

Growing it here for the first time. Southern BC Canada. It's doing great🍃. Looking forward to its berries. Some say you can eat them. They are used as natural dye. Beauty!
I wish I had the money to expand my vegetable garden more than I did this year. I plan on trying to double it next year and I’ve already started buying the stuff to do it with. I’m buying a little at a time so I’m not spending a lot of money at once.
Just love the energy you bring

Wow, I just searched a couple days ago for a video about fruits and vegetables that grow on shade!
As a gardener myself I love watching stuff like this, I'm a new subscriber great video!

Hey James! Wanted drop a line to you and tuck! Your channel is what got me hooked on all things gardening! My love for growing my own food runs deep and it has become a true passion! I also can't go anywhere in my garden without my 3 companions....my German shepherds, hera Athena and Harley! We enjoy watching u and tuck! Thank u for the great content and learning experiences!!
how do you keep your greens free of aphids and leaf miners? They look so good!
James, thanks for all your info and your enthusiasm! Love from MA!
Hello James love your video thank for sharing
Keep up the good work James. Live it.
WISHING YOU AND THE TUCK A BEAUTIFUL 4TH OF JULY!🌻
Love your vids. Tuck is the greatest besides my dog Lexxie. Thanks for the much needed info on shade veggies and light key factor. So impacted by your enthusiasm and encouragement in all your shows. You’re the best! ❤️ from the Houstongardener!

I was getting worried as the video went on and there was no Tuck. Glad to see him make an appearance in the end. My Australian Shepherd, Scooby, is usually at my side as well.
I really appreciate all you do James 💕love tucks🤗🤗
Wow someone on reddit asked about container gardening on a north facing balcony this morning and everything I suggest was in this video, even the pepper and tomato suggestions were almost identical. It's always nice to hear another experienced gardener echo your advice, makes me feel like I've developed a clue across years of success and failure lol

It's berserk, we were having an ARGUMENT about STANDARD peppers not being able to grown in reasonable shade at ALL. I couldn't believe it but I shove this video down that person and my posting presenting it's possible within reasons.
Nasturtium is such a delicious plant! We make Nasturtium salt-Nasturtium Pesto that is to die for---can be used on sandwiches as well as salads. Great stuff!

Great video! Thank you for always giving us amazing gardening content! Please give us garden to table content some other time! Fan from the PH 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
My chipmunks did not get memo that Swiss chard is not bothered by pests, they decimate my Swiss chard and leave kale alone. I planted a Diva cucumber in shady area last year, as I had spot open and extra plant and I got best crop ever, despite deer chomping on what grew in their reach. The ones in sun did not perform as well. Will see what happens this year as I planted more in that location and noticed today baby cucumbers.
LOL! I'm watching this at work and a call came in on my softphone at 7:24. The window popped up right on top of James. As soon as it did, he ducked to the side to get around a branch, but it looked like he was trying to look around my phone.
When you were talking about carrots and beets, you mentioned that you can eat the beet greens. We eat the carrot greens. My wife cooks them and are very tasty!

Thank you so much for this video. I always learn so much!
I have a raised bed shaded by one of my apple trees. The kale (rainbow lacinato, dino and scarlet) love it there!
Love the ideas of planting spinach
We really can't afford another raised bed this year...however...during the course of this video we have decided to buy a cheap kiddie pool to plant greens in a shady spot in the backyard....we are working toward more self sufficiency with garden beds...as we are not spring chickens it is a slow process though....thank you for the time you spend encouraging and inspiring,...and give Tuck a cuddle from us 🥰
I literally re-did my landscaping around the house today and was thinking about planting vegetables in some of the areas but feared not enough sunlight would reach them. Glad I saw this video James!
Love the channel! I learn something new on every video. You and Tuck have single handedly changed the way I look at my gardening! Thank you! 😃

Thank you James. Interesting and enjoyable as always.
Keep up the good work James. Love it.
Thank you for being such a great inspiration 🐝🌿🇬🇧
Mustard greens are amazing cooked with a little smoked turkey and onions.
Eat the mustard greens at the size they are now. Just as one or two small leaves in a salad and it’s an amazing addition.
Nice to see your did again, cute!
Great info. Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm and knowledge. Both of you stay cool.
Thank you for the great vids, love tuck😃😃
We've had a 115゚ temperatures we have about 4% humidity normally, I grow carrots under my squash all summer long
Here in zone 9A I'm learning from your videos , I just change my growing time I start in late November and again in March
Great list of shade veggies!
Thank you, James, for confirming that large, canopy trees in a food forest are NOT a barrier to growing healthy, productive food plants. I'm looking for MORE trees to plant. 🥑🍐🥭🍋🍈🍑
I'm super stoked about interplanting and this is excellent information for me to apply. Also, it's raining like mad for the last 3 days, and looks like it's going to continue for the next 2 so I haven't had much time in my garden. Watching your videos in your garden is the next best thing to being in my own!
James, scallions are a great onion bulb substitute. They add onion flavor along with color(green) in soups and salads.

It's very interesting that they are one of the few alluims that can thrive in some shade too.
Its way too hot outside here today. Tuck should be inside with you just chilling out. There's always another day to play in the garden. Thanks for the helpful ideas of shade growing. I want to utilize every space in my garden and yard. Thanks James. Hugs for Tuck. 🌻💕🌻💕
I’m just now starting to harvest squash and zucchini here in Texas
You seem like a great guy and I love your channel. Thanks for doing what you do, and best wishes on your food forest moving forward.

Especially for a dog, and he even digs up his own carrots
I like mustard greens in small amounts in salads, and they're good mixed in with already-made sauerkraut. Everyone talks about growing beans when the peas are finished, but even though I planted my peas a month before my pole beans, my peas are just starting to produce now, and the beans are climbing high. There is definitely going to be some overlap in harvesting.
Wonderful! thank you for the tips and warm(and I mean warm greetings from TALLAHASSEE, FL!)
Thanks much for the PSA for the pets! As a vet tech we love it when others spread the word about keeping pets safe in the heat. Also, can you leave the roots of the peas in the ground and clip them when they're done when you plant the beans?
good video about shaded plants and all the varieties available, keep Tuck hydrated👍🏻
i live in the tropics.....lots of sun heat and rain. i have a garden bed on my roof, and it's basically a jungle of spinach, with very few other plants in it......i started blending the spinach and freezing it in individual portions. in the morning i take one of those shots of spinach and mix it with a bit of juice and have that for breakfast.....it lasts until lunch. planted a few kale plants, but they are still too young. but soon i will add them to the blend.
You can eat carrot greens, too. :)

Yes! I use them as I would parsley.
Sadly we have had too much sun western Canada being roasted by unseasonably warm (40+c) weather. So a lot of my normally ok plants have died of heat, burned or just bolted. It all good gardening is all about restoring and regrowing. I would love a what to grow in roasting heat 😂😂😂 video. 🇨🇦🐝 safe
Great advice as always James! Thankyou
In the fruit department, currants and gooseberries (eating plenty of both this week!)
i like your channel thanks for sharing
I tried growing Malabar Spinach this year- first year with a raised bed garden- and it grew to and inch tall and stopped. Nice to see what it should look like! Maybe it'll do better next year.
Your channel is so inspiring and encouraging. Always great content! Thank you

Great Video! I have some extra space, I’ll definitely be adding more in the shadier areas. Thank you
Thanks James
I’ve learned so much. Thanks for sharing!
Pretty much, the Edible leafs, stem, and roots for the most part. Cool ^_^ I planted cucumbers and Tomatoes on the side of my house, but because there is a lot of shade time, the tomatoes and cucumbers weren't too big. I have tomato plants in another area though, and it's doing well.

have you considered the roof? you can have a garden bed, and let your tomatos vine down. just make sure they are near a wall facing south, so they get as much sun as possible.
