this is probably the starting point of 95% of us solo travelors. There's not a good enough reason to travel solo if you have good reliable friends who like to travel with you. But it does have it upsides. You grow up, you become more independant and you sometimes meet like-minded people you don't usually meet in a group. I've had my best year (2020 of all the years) when I escaped from depression and loneliness in lockdown and went to a canarian island where for the first time in my life I met people I felt like I belonged. We were all the same minds. This only happened because we were solo and escaping lockdown.

Once you go solo, the idea of having to plan a trip with someone else seems annoying. I absolutely love this. I solo travel all the time (over 30 countries and counting). The best places to go to meet people are hostels and events. Always google the latest scams in the area (especially on transportation). I went a trip by myself to Strasbourg, France on Saturday and it filled my energy cup. I got to cafe-sit, people-watch, eat churros and take in the scenery without distraction. I have a fiance whom I adore and long to be close to and fully supports my trips alone and we enjoy trips together. Solo travel is normal for a lot of people. Don't be discouraged by the naysayers. xxSafe Travelsx

Hi. Your tip about googling the latest scams in the area you are traveling to is so clever! It's true there is always something that easily works on an unsuspecting tourist...until the tourist knows better, that is. Like the aggressive bracelet peddlers in Italy...where they quickly strap a beaded bracelet on your arm as a 'gift' and then basically bully you to pay them until you can move on. Intense.

I checked the stats and i was SHOCKED . . . 84% of SOLO travelers and FEMALE!!! I used to be affaid of solo travel too but then i started step by step and the feeling of absolute FREEDOM is freaking addictive . . . Now i'm an online 'advocate' of solo travel . . .

Favorite part of solo travel for me is the flexibility to be spontaneous and basically calling the shots on what I want to do, when I want to do it and not having the frustration of waiting on a travel mate and making sure they are happy because that stresses me out! I First (sort of) solo trip was when I was 53 - I studied abroad in Florence Italy for 3 weeks, but extended a trip and did some solo time. Second ti,e I was 59 same as before but the solo time was 2 weeks in Florence and Tuscany. I felt safe. The only time I got nervous was one night I walked by myself to my apartment at night (10ish) and it was dark. Streets where empty and I realized perhaps this was not the smartest move. I got home safely but made sure I was in shortly before dark after that. I’m not a big nightlife person so that worked. Embarking on a solo trip to the UK in June 2022 and feel confident about going!

I've wanted to travel for a very long time, but certain people told me that it isn't safe to travel alone as a woman. I don't have friends, or anyone who will travel with me, but I don't want to lose hope. When all this mess with Covid ends I want to backpack through Europe before I head back to college.

Hi Tania, i am balancing that idea also. Never travelled solo and all my surroundings settled down, building house, family. I am scared too... Do you know what will be your first step?

One thing I do as a solo traveler is at night I walk near other women, grandmas, moms with children, etc. Not creepily close, just enough that it might make someone think twice before wanting to hurt me because I’m in such close proximity to someone else. Also I always carry the card of the hotel or hostel or whatever place I’m staying at on my person in case I get lost and need to just grab a taxi. Also if I feel unsafe I grab my phone and pretend I’m telling someone I’m on my way and I’m telling them exactly where I am (again it’s just to make it less appealing to mug me, kidnap me). And my last advice is I always have my hand over my valuables, just hovering over it gently nothing crazy, if I leave stuff in my room I try to hide it. Oh! And fold your clothes by rolling them instead of folding into squares, huge space saver and doesn’t wrinkle your clothes! Happy Traveling!

Graduating from university this December and decided to spend a month abroad in New Zealand SOLO to celebrate - couldn’t be more thrilled, but this video was so helpful to calm some nerves!!

I've always wanted to do this but have been to afraid to travel alone internationally, but I have been watching a bunch of vlogs about traveling as a female alone and I'm convinced I can do it. I can't wait for all this covid hype to calm down and we can return to our normal routines and life. I feel I really will enjoy myself if I set out alone exploring things alone because I know what I like and a lot of times when you travel with people there can be conflicts of interest and it kills the experience I really am looking forward to it.

I would say, start doing solo trips at home first, if you're that nervous. Then extend your borders a bit. Choose countries without language barriers. Then once you feel good and safe start exploring further!

as a female, travelling solo is 10 x easier then as a guy. That is if you stay in western countries or asia. You will have all the benefits of having attention and people taking care of you, helping you and no one being scared of you. Men and women will be kind to you. As a guy, not a single girl is giving a Sh*t about you and most of the guys don'T either so you're 100% on your own all the time and have to solve every problem alone. If you're a girl, you don't have some place to stay, you will be approached by groups of friends and invited to stay with them for free, will be driven around in rental cars for free and invited to dinner and drinks by guys.

In my 20-40’s I traveled the USA as a trucker. Since then I’ve traveled by car and plane all over the USA. I’ve traveled internationally with organized groups and with friends and self made itineraries. Thanks for sharing your tips.

I've literally just come back from traveling solo for the first time. I went to Iceland. I had a gap were I was kid free and jumped at the opportunity. I split up with my ex s few months ago and honestly it's been the most spectacular experience. I have no regrets and can't wait to do it again.

Love this. My first solo international trip was to Dublin, Ireland. I did two day tours and a food tour. It was so amazing. I'm typically an introvert so doing things alone is fitting for me however when I go to Spain this fall I do want to be a part of an expat group or something.

I did my first travel since 14 years of being in U.S, I got to travel back to my country “ Ghana” alone without no company after so many excuses. I didn’t enjoy myself much because of the COvid, but I plan on doing it again next year , I plan on going to Chicago for a mini weekend and ready to travel anywhere and have some fun. Too many excuses from people, do what you have to do to be happy.

The drinking one is so important! Unfortunately I’ve had a lot of experiences were I drank way too much while solo traveling (one memory I have is throwing up in the streets of Barcelona all by myself😅) I always got back to the hostel safe, but it could have happened worse things. It’s so easy to get drunk abroad, especially when you do a pub crawl where you get a lot of really cheap or even free drinks, please stay safe girls!! And always support other girls when they in need of help (of course only if it’s safe for you to help them)🌷

I have been devoting my youth to my family business since young and started managing it over the past 2 years. Nothing felt fulfilling working here even when it's "supposed to be." I think I forgot how to live for myself. I wasn't happy. Few days ago, I told my family and team I'll be taking a break for 3-4 years to travel solo full-time around the world. I have thankfully had the opportunity to travel alone on short trips to nearby countries. They were peaceful, meaningful and genuinely makes me feel happy. It was like a, "This is it. This is life." moment for me. I don't have much spare cash to be honest, most are in the business and I have no intention of withdrawing. I don't know how it's going to work out but I'm sure I will figure it out along the way. I am nervous, scared, on the verge of tearing up but I'm also relieved and excited. I cannot wait to discover the world and myself, help people I meet along the way and fall in love with life again. Thank you for this video and your channel!

I'm french and I've traveled solo when I was 21 (I'm 28 now) to London. It was the best experience of my entire life. Now I'm considering Workaways to Mexico, Costa Rica, South America, then travels to Japan and Korea. The entire experience may be 5 months long. I'm excited and stressed at the same time. I'm very bored in my life and need new challenges, new experiences and I'd love to volunteer for causes close to my heart. On the other hand, I've (functioning) anxiety which is mostly managed by organization, and I need quite a lot of time alone... I'm afraid to feel overwhelmed away from home.

It's also my goal to travel when I turned 17. I wanna see the whole world.

Booked my first solo international trip to Rome for 2022😀

If staying at a hostel is something you'd like to do and the age factor is making you hesitate, don't let that worry you. I'm 42 years old and still love them. I don't mind chatting with younger roommates, and it's not too uncommon for me to still find roommates my own age. The younger ones don't have a problem with me either; most tend to treat me as "experienced" rather than "old." In fact, the first roommate I ever had was a grandmother from New Zealand that was spending her retirement traveling solo. The only thing I watch out for is age restrictions, which in my experience have been few and far between, and gravitating away from the party hostels that cater toward guests that are most likely to be staggering in drunk at 2am.

No one will ever descibe to you how much solo traveling is an amazing experience. I did it for the first time last month as a 24 year old and i felt like i’m the main character. You definitely won’t be able to go back to ur normal life because u’ll keep planning for ur next solo trip

I’m going to be solo traveling in Europe for my spring break but it was more so a situation where I wanted to be with people but it didn’t happen and I didn’t want that to hold me back. As a 77 year old male with 71 countries visited I have some experience. I can pack all I need in a case that fits an aircraft overhead bin. and I know how to use a laundrette. That said my most recent experience was photographing exotic butterflies in the jungles of Costa Rica. Reccomended.

i want to travel too but it will be my frist time travel alone but i alway fell nervous and scard too but watch this video it help me so much to have confidence to travel now . my friend say the same thing to me like i don't know language i get lost they think something go have to me. i alway stop not doing it . i stop my dream going to south korea alway list to them

My personal opinion about meeting people abroad is to watch out! Not everyone had the same interests

Excuse me for being a lazy arse (am sure this is probably answered elsewhere) but did you grow up somewhere in Britain, spent a lot of time there or absorb the accent from your flatmate? Your accent sort of shifts into one at points like around 1:28 and 2:10 when ending your words and it's fascinating to see. On the video itself... I've got scholarship money to travel in Italy and see performances and I'm bricking it! So nervous as I'm quite antisocial but I reckon taking this huge step and travelling solo will help a ton. Good question. It’s not always easy to be sure how much you will need. Though definitely whatever amount you settle on, I would say to put a little more in case of emergency.

I have no friends to travel with and I can't wait forever, so... solo travel here i come.

You must visit Pakistan,specially northern area .Highly recommended K2 base camp .

I turned 30 this year and became single. Now I`m thinking about next years vacation and I know my friends can`t join me cause they have family or boyfriends to be with. So, I really want to travel solo! I`ve never done it, and it scares me really much, also since I have a bit of anxiety and is shy and weird around new people, even tho I really want to expand my group of friends! SO! being so "old" and travel solo... I never had the chance before now... so... am I too old for hostels now? Am I gonna meet up with people my age too? where do I go the first time? (I live in Norway. Have been around Europe pretty much, but never alone. Also, NEVER been OUTSIDE Europe!)

Same here, but im bored of accompany family friends travelling with me and make problems there .. The idea of planning by urself and whatever u want is everything.
