There are numerous Shiva temples all over India. The most important of them are the 12 Jyotirlingas.
These temples protect Bharat. Let us know a little bit about these sites and their history.
The first of the Jyotirlinga sites is mentioned in the Somnath Temple. It is located in the town of Prabhasa Pattinam in the Kirsomnath district of the Indian state of Gujarat, on the majestic shores of the Arabian Sea. It is the place where the moon is worshiped and the curse is removed and it is one of the places of power of the Goddess. , Which is the site of the Shakti Peetha where the abdomen of the Goddess falls on the 51 Shakti Peethas.
According to the Skanda Purana, the Shiva lingam of the Somnath Temple is located underground with a radiance similar to that of the sun.
The second Jyotirlinga is called Mallikarjunar. The site is located on the Nallamalai Hill in the Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh.
This place is called Srisailam. Here Lord Shiva is blessed with the name of Mr. Mallikarjunar and the nickname of Ambika Brahmavidyambika. Situated on the banks of the River Krishna, this temple is situated amidst lofty mountains and dense forest.

The third Jyotirlinga is called Mahakaleswar.
Located in the city of Ujjain in present day Madhya Pradesh. The temple is located on the east bank of the river sipra. The city of Ujjain is revered as one of the seven holy cities that offer salvation according to Hindu mythology. It is also revered as one of the four sites where Amritam spilled. The Kumbh Mela is held here once in 12 years.
The fourth Jyotirlinga is called Omkareshwar. It is located in the Kandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. The land on which the Omkareshwar Temple is located is formed by the holy river Narmada.
The fifth Jyotirlinga is called Kedarnath. It is located in Kedarnath, Rudraprayag district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.
Kedarnath Temple is located on a plateau surrounded by snow-capped mountains and glaciers. Jyotirlinga is located on the Shivalik Range, near the Mandakini River, one of the tributaries of the Holy Ganges.
The sixth Jyotirlinga site is called Bhimashankar. The temple is located on a hillock in Tangini, Ambegaon taluka, in the Western Ghats, Pune district in the state of Maharashtra. This Jyotirlinga site is located on the banks of the river Bhima. Lord Shiva appeared here to destroy the demon Bhima and became known as Bhima Sankara due to his jyotirlingam.
The seventh Jyotirlinga is located in the city of Kasi under the name of Viswanathar. In Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, people worship under the name of Lord Viswanathar and Goddess Visalachchi. The temple is located on the banks of the holy river Ganges. It is also one of the seven holy cities of salvation. Ithalam is the place where Isan appeared as Jyotirlinga, who enjoyed the preyer of Lord Vishnu.
Varanasi is the spiritual capital of Hinduism. Here Ambika is portrayed as Visalachchi and also as Annapurna. It embodies the fallen power pedestal of the Goddess' earlobes and facial parts.
The eighth Jyotirlinga site is called Triyambakeshwar. It is located in Nashik in the state of Maharashtra.The main reason for setting up this temple here is Gautama Maharishi. Eason, who was delighted with Gautama's devotion and worship, appeared here in the form of Triyambakeswarar.
The ninth Jyotirlinga is called Vaidyanath. It is located in Devgarh, Devgarh district in the state of Jharkhand, India. Legend has it that visiting this place removes all kinds of sins. This place is also known as Baba Dham or Baidyanath Dham.This Vaidyanathar was worshiped by the river Ganga and ravana.
The tenth Jyotirlinga is called Nageshwar.
Nageswarar Temple or Naganathar Temple is located near Dwarka. In this temple she is called Lord Naganathar and Goddess Nageshwari.
The eleventh Jyotirlinga is called Ramanatha Swami. This place is located in Rameswaram, Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu. Located on the shores of the Bay of Bengal, this place is famous for the worship of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita.
The originator of this temple is Eesan Ramanathaswamy and also known as Ammibai Parvatha Vardhini.
The twelfth Jyotirlinga is called Krushneshwar. It is the last of the 12 Jyotirlinga sites.
Kushmeshwar Jyotirlinga is located at Verulkhan in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The temple is located close to the world famous Ajanta and Ellora Caves.
The Kushmeshwar Shivalinga was created by the devotion of the pious Kushma, who paid immense devotion to Lord Shiva.
