Nice work! I added a small boat electric horn on mine and had the switch next to me ignition key (had center console/electric start) but you can position anywhere you can reach for when it comes in handy.

Haha stumbled on your account randomly because I’ve really been wanting to get a jon boat and I love the content man. You deserve a bigger platform in my opinion. Gives a lot of perspective on realistic and helpful upgrades. A lot of boat content is crazy restorations and ridiculously time consuming builds I.e. tiny boat nation. And that stuff is cool and all but I really like your style of keeping things simple and functional. Keep up the great work man. I’ve watched quite a few of your videos and am excited for more 😂

Thanks man! I’ve taken a look at several 16-18 footers in the past year and they all just miss the mark. Hopefully I can find something that fits the bill, but I guess for now we’ll see how far the 12 can go.

Awesome upgrades man! Except I would have spent the few extra bucks and got toggle switches. Not sure how water proof those switches will be. You could build a small box to cover them with a hinge. Other than that I think you did a great job.

These small boat building videos are really starting to change my mind on what i really need for a boat . if i can add a a deck with storage. I was looking at a used 16-18ft fishing boats from the 90s that had a nice deck, live wells and a nice console with a steering wheel . Boats in that range that are well used are $6k plus here in Ontario 🇨🇦 and a decent one is probably $10k plus . Sure you get live wells and a nice centre console with a steering wheel. But i’m not sure if i really need all that since i’m a catch in release guy and 90% of the time it’s only going to be me . I think I can get a nice 12-14ft boat for under $2500 and not have to go into debt to buy one like the bigger boat. I still think I want a small boat with a steering wheel through vs a tiler type engine with my right shoulder problems . Thanks for the videos and changing my mind

For 90% of the fishing I do, the 12 footer works great. I actually looked into adding a side console on my 12, but the hull is just a lot too narrow on this model being 36 inches. A lot of the other 12 footers I see are 42-48 inches wide. Otherwise my buddies 14 footer definitely had enough space to comfortably add a side console.

So Amazon has everything you need. $30 for a 5 switch panel with 2 usb and voltage display specifically for boats, 6 pack lo pro lights for $13. Also, why didn’t you mount the trolling motor all the way up to the bow? I noticed a small concave on that brace but you could’ve flattened it out a bit. Would’ve saved you a lil bit of room for mabe a monitor or something.

  • @MissionForFishing

Great questions, I didn’t mount the trolling motor at the tip of the bow because of the front nose casting and rub rails which I wanted exposed for both functionality and looks. I also didn’t want the trolling motor taking up room inside the boat when stored and not too far out when towing. I didn’t order anything from Amazon due to the short timeframe we had to work in since nothing could have shipped in time. There’s still a decent amount of space on the added trolling motor platform for a graph in the future, nothing crazy, a 7 inch is probably the biggest you could fit but that’s plenty big for a boat this size.

you can get "old works" boxes and not have to nail them in. they have little ears that hold them in the hole.

I don’t want a deck what is the best ways to put a floor in. I’m gonna copy your trolling motor platform and add a floor to mine and it will be ready

  • @MissionForFishing

Well I think the best way to install a false floor is to rivet support brackets into the sides of seats or parts of the hull like supporting ribs that won’t cause a leak. We had loosely fit a false floor into a 14 footer and it bounced everywhere and wasn’t the greatest design, they should be anchored and made from 3/4” plywood and sealed good from moisture exposure. That’s just what I’ve noticed and concluded. Hope this helps!

You needed to use waterproof switches. You're going to short out your electronics with house switches. There's a reason they are not use for exterior purposes. It might only be 12 volts but it still hurts.

  • @isaacroufs5779

Soo, I take the point that household switches are going to probably rust or corrode out relatively quickly, but I'm confused about them "shorting out electronics". All the switches do is complete the circuit by connecting two terminals in the switch together, which are wired up in line with the positive line in the 12v circuit. To my understanding, besides from ceasing to fuction as switches, there's no way to damage components from using non-waterproof switches in this application.
