On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: thirds way up high, scales that made me cry, all wrapped up in a left hand study. And then on the fourth day of the Christmas gift giving my true love gave to me: drums keeping beat and strongmen stomping feet and march bands in the street 'cos it was time for a bass melody! On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: (It's a sad canon entry that's two whole bars behind) Dark minor chords! Dark minor chords! (Now we're in time!) Big fat hairy chords! Bash them out! (Chords in canon now, Rachmaninoff would be so proud) Big fait hairy chords, and a very long dominant pause... (but now let's try to slow it down...) On the sixth day of Christmas my true love gave to me: a plagiary of Erik Satie, copied note for note, it's exactly what Satie wrote As the first of his Gymnopedies. SE. VENTH. DAY. MY. TRUE. LOVE. GAVE. Fun unforgiving runs, notes were spilling up and down the staves in octaves, (really not my fave!), feeling pain in a Lisztian rage! On the eighth day of Christmas my true love gave to me: bells in the left hand 'schnell' triplet runs and one more repeat before it comes down... down... Joyful triple time, celebrate, everything is fine, life is great, during Christmas time! On the ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me: a fast little scherzo played leggiero, all non-legato very pizzicato, Chords, out of place?! Back to status quo, sort sharp notes (How much more to go?!) (Not far!) Well, I'm glad that there's no Da Capo! Then on the tenth day of Christmas, guess what my true love gave to me: No, not a cloth, no, not a mop, yes, it's a rag, it's a rag, it's a ragtime jam! *bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom* With offbeats, it doesn't need to be swung to be sweet. Then on the eleventh day my true love gave to me (they gave to me) a tribal melody that functioned modally (they gave to me!) My true love gave to me, beneath the Christmas tree, a tribal melody that functioned modally, Look, accidental D, now this is the finale, pentatonic fall, no white keys at all, Major scale run, play it minor now for fun, this is what my love gave to me, it's what my love gave to me, it's what my true love gave to me... You made a Christmas song that was almost unbearable for me to listen to enjoyable enough that I want it on repeat. I don't know how you do it but you're amazing at doing arrangements!
