12 Best Places to Live or Retire in Northern Italy

In this video, we have listed some of the most ideal places for long term living or retiring in the northern part of Italy. Geographically, North Italy encompasses several key regions, including Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Liguria and Piedmont. This side of Italy is mostly known for its mountainous landscapes, Picturesque lakes, big cosmopolitan cities with art and Fashion Scene, along with a rich culture. But bear in mind, all of this comes with a hefty price tag as the average cost of living in almost all regions of north Italy is the highest. Additionally, Northern Italy is the power house of the countries economy as it generates almost 65% of its Revenue. Hence the employment rate in this part of the country is very high, therefore many expats looking for jobs also gravitate towards Northern Italy. Overall, Northern Italy is for everyone be it retiree, expats and even investors looking to buy property.

Just visited Bolzano and immediately fell for it. Great combination of cultures, phenomenal quality of living, and the Dolomite’s. Along with Verona and Siena it is one of my favorite smaller cities in Italy.

Thanks so much for providing this awesome video, enjoyed it immensely,... My mother is from Lake Como, my Father from Calabria. Both places are magnificent in there own special way. All my relatives from Calabria moved to beautiful Lake Como many many years ago, mainly for higher work opportunities then Calabria, so all my relatives live there, i only have one Cusin living here in Australia, so coming from an Italian family background, as you can imagine, I have plenty. I've been very fortunate to of travelled most of Europe/Italy, but Lake Como is definitely my favourite place to stay in Italy, besides having free accommodation whenever iam able to visit family, the history itself going back to Roman times, together with spot on seasonal weather, friendly locals ready to help out anytime, if your nice to them of course, and breathtaking views along the lake, with amazing Restaurants,, Bars, and Cafes, not to mention the many Boutique clothing shop, with more Restaurants, Cafes and Wine Bars in the Medieval city centre, surrounded by watchtowers, and narrow cobblestones streets, manly made for Roman Chariots only to use back then, Lake Como is one of the Best places to visit if considering travelling to Italy, it takes 10 minutes by car to cross into beautiful Switzerland and about 45 minutes to travel to Milano...basically you can travel from Lake Como by car, train, or bus all over Beautiful Europe, witch in my personal opinion, is my #1 place to travel, anywhere in the world, hands down 👉🏻🇮🇹🕶👍🏻

I hear you. I live in Canada for 66 years. I am from Calabria and married my husband from pordenone Friuli. I have family in Milano, Roma, Calabria, Friuli, and many friends in those places. however; if one doesn't have family there, it's very expensive , and not everyone can afford to pay for food and hotel's.

I liked to see your opinions/suggestions about this places. I just have to say that at the beginning of the video you named all the regions but you did not say Trentino. Very important one. You showed the provincia of Bolzano and spoke about the lake Garda. I care to say that there is many beautiful situations in Trentino Alto Adige (it’s one region with provincia of Trento and Bolzano) all the north part of the lake Garda is amazing too and is part of a Trentino. Any question about that area please lmk. I can guide you about everything there. Ciao

It is also corrupt, overly bureaucratic, racist, governed by semi-fascists and in large parts its infrastructure is rotten. As a tourist you enjoy the beautiful landscape and cities, the historic architecture, the wonderful weather, design and of of course cuisine, but it's a hell of a difference if you have to live and work there.
