Using common materials, you can make some pretty nice handrails. I like to use spruce 2X lumber and rip the components to size instead of purchasing purpose made components. This allows me to get dimensions and scale to suit my liking. In this case, ripping the pickets to 1 3/4 inches. Additional components such as capping the rail with a 1x4 and trimming the edges with shoe molding turned upside down are simple ways to dress up this simple rail. You can also use beaded screen trim to cover the lower joint between the bottom-most 2x4 and the picket assembly. Small details like this make things more "architecturally considered" and less DIY. In the end, the rails will get caulked and receive a coat of solid stain. Up next is finishing the rails down the stairs, shingles, gutters and paint.

That dear, brave little house - just purely functional at first with no real affection or care shown to it. Now it's like a butterfly emerging - it will be a real credit to you and a definite star in its street. Well done.

Good poetry friend
I recently found your channel and I'm obsessed with this house makeover... it's coming out real nice. Great job... 👏
A pair of fancy looking lights on the porch is all you need now
Thank you for taking the extra time you have by filming all of this and taking everyone on this journey with you! The house is coming along so well 😀
As I say often, beautiful work sir. She’s coming alone so very nicely
Something about you wearing a dress shirt to build a porch says a lot about your character, work ethic, and quality of work. I’ve noticed that you’ve only worn a sleeveless top once or twice but other than that, you’ve worked in a dress shirt every time. Kudos to you - I think you’re doing an awesome job and I can’t wait to see the finished product!!

Dress shirts are actually wonderful for hot outside work because they can be lightweight, the sleeves cinch so they are out of the way, and you don't get sunburnt, and don't have to worry about bugs. I like wearing dress shirts (old ones) for this reason when I garden.
I love how it’s starting to take shape, but I’m more excited to see some drywall go up inside and see that start coming together
The porch looks great, love how you made the slats instead of purchasing them, a way cheaper option, and better built in my opinion. That is going to be a great home for somebody, hopefully you will get long term renters in there that take care of it. Beautiful place. (Saw the rack on top of the truck in this video, very nice touch to the truck and the shell on the rear, makes it a very practical truck now)
I can’t get over what a difference that porch makes!!
Dude! You're gonna catch hell from the anti-pocket hole dorks!! Me, I'm more of a whatever gets the job done kinda guy. Good job!
just great!!, LOVE the new porch. (our "cheap" house is really coming along, we've painted all the rooms except the laundry room, gutted the kitchen, power washed the house and garage, installed new exterior doors front and back, cleaned all the rain gutters, refinished the hardwood floors in both bedrooms and living room, (never again!, way too much work for this old man), installed new laminate flooring in kitchen&laundry room, got all the new base cabinets installed today, should have counters and uppers done by weekend!) I'm taking the day off tomorrow. We are waiting for 2 new garage doors that we ordered, and finally, having a new furnace and central A/C installed the third week in August. Thanks again, for the inspiration to do this!!
You are incredibly talented. I had a mental breakdown just installing a ceiling fan
When will your e-book of how you develop ninja skills for man-handling yourself up onto a porch roof become available?

Hahaha! I know, right? When I saw that, I was like, shut, if I try that I would end up in the hospital. Aw, to be young and strong.
Beautiful job as always. Someone is going to be lucky to rent this completely refurbished house. The porch is icing on the cake.
Lookin' better all the time. You are upgrading the neighborhood.
Just found your channel yesterday and bing watched this entire renovation from day one lol... as someone who does interior decor and furniture up cycling I can’t wait to see the finished product!! Please keep this series going with other homes!! And GREAT JOB
Well, I got through the entire build so far. You should really add storm doors to the front and back door. Also shutters to the front and side windows would really give the house curb appeal.
WOW! I’m impressed. You’re really good at designing and building porch rails. Beautiful!
The porch looks awesome I really like the way you done the rails
Binge watched the lead up to this video, glad I’m up to date. Prefer it when you talk over what you’re doing rather than just music, but that’s a taste thing. Great job - really looking forward to the next one 😉👍🏻👋🏻🇬🇧
It looks so good. It made all the diffrence to have the porch.
Thanks so much for taking the time to make these videos to entertain and educate random people on the internet! I really hope to see your channel flourish
The porch looks real nice. Thanks for catching us up on the build.
Frigging gorgeous! You can tell you build furniture for a living.
The design if the front porch really transformed the look of the house, nice job.
Glad to see the porch that your nail gun built being finished on the house your nail gun built! Love your videos, can't wait to see the finished place!

I'd love to live in this house, with the amount of care that's gone into it.
What is this music?!! 💖 and the porch looks great! I can already see a couple of chairs and flower pots!
Great job on the porch, just what the front needed. Bravo!
I’ve been watching this series for hours now! Cant wait for the next videos! Greetings from Norway 🇳🇴
Watched all 36 episodes in 2 days. I really love the vids. You’re awesome and I can’t wait to see how it comes along 🤗
Good thing Dad came along or you might not have finished! My favorite channel!
Definitely one of my favorite series, doing great man!
That's coming together. What a relatively big impact for relatively low cost!
This little house just keeps getting better and better! Another great video in the books! I'm shocked at some of the snarky asshat know-it-all comments which I hope you are thick skinned enough to ignore. Keep doing what you're doing and thanks for sharing!!
Watched a year's worth of videos. You've gained a new subscriber. Kudos. Looking forward to more.
I really love your videos man, they help me get through each day with a smile. The house looks fantastic bro
I've been watching for a long time and can't wait to see it completed, very well done!
Nice work. Love all your little details that make it look so much nicer! Love you see you!
Who could hate that porch or it's roof? Looks great to me.
great transformation!! I love how simple you make some of these projects look. Cant wait for the final reveal!!
Love this series, found it a week ago and cant stop watching.
Can’t wait for the next installment! Great video! The attention to detail is amazing on that porch
Just found this series today and watched every video! 👍🏻great work. I’m most excited about seeing how you redo the inside.
Great job as always man. Cant wait to see her finished.
Such a great job! I'm sure whoever rents this place will enjoy such sturdy and quality porch. Places that I have rented seem like they just throw them together just enough to meet code (barely). The work you put in is inspiring! Keep it up
Keep up the great work, i love this series!
Dang, son. When I first started binge watching yesterday I thought "this guy is a cheapskate and is going to make this pathetic cinder block into just barely something worth looking at". But hey, the work and love you've put into it makes me excited to finish watching how beautiful this little place is going to be in the end. Thanks for the videos!
Such incredible work! Can’t wait to see the final walk through! Well done sir!
Have been watching your channel for a while, look forward to each video! Thank you for posting them!
Great look for that little house compared to what it had previously. Looks very sturdy.
It's amazing how someone can be so talented at things like this. I wouldn't have a clue on what to do! Great work!
These videos are so peaceful. I love the music. Very relaxing. Nice.
Great job my man. As a new flipper myself i have been watching these since your first video and im inspired a great deal by you and your work
I use the portable clamp style Kreg jig for bigger lumber..........its a pretty good system, strong and quick.
Love what you do keep it up
Beautiful, just beautiful - good looks clearly runs in your family. Oh, and the porch is looking great too!
Starting to look like a real home. Good job. Some lucky renter is really going to appreciate all your hard work.
What a great video! Shows each step in the process. Great job!
That was a great series. Respect for this big project 🤟🏻
Love the updates, looks great!
Yay! Binge watched the first vids for this, can wait to see more!
I think it looks amazing! The more I see done to this house the more I wish I could live there!
Love that porch. Great job. Can't wait for the next vid
just wanted to say your not just a carpenter your a craftsman
Great job on the porch , can't wait for the next video !
(shoves plywood onto roof) (pauses after landing, waiting for plywood to slide back off) That's life, man.
Wow it's looking so good!
You really are an inspiration to all of us. Tons of great work and alot of skill. Thumbs up! Loving every single video of this project.
It looks awesome! Been looking forward to more videos!
Wow!! What a great porch.........you always do an awesome job...........lucky people or person who buys or rents that home.
Also, shared your videos with a few friends that share the same type interest. They are now going to watch all of your house videos from the beginning. Is the tiny house still a plan to finish? I know you have a ton going on so I know your focus is on the things that make you the most. The tiny house could work for an AirBNB since you do income property.
What are you planning to do with the tar-paper overhang? Might I suggest some cornicing on the underside lip, so that the tar-paper wraps around and looks a little neater? It would also stop the porch from requiring a recovering prematurely. That porch looks quite professional. In my opinion, the pitch is just right, it makes for two very nice spots to hang hanging baskets imo.
Awesome dude! Keep it up! Can’t wait for the next video!
Getting er done, you could have called this video "sweating In the south."😀😀
Always love to watch your work, you do such wonderful job, thank you for sharing.
Thats a nice way of doing the hand rails!
Looking great!!
