This darn porch has turned into a big project, but an enjoyable one. In this video I finish up the railings down the stairs, talk a bunch and set some 1/2 boxes for mounting outdoor lights. For those that are curious and read these words........I chose not to do music in this video and instead just go with the "sounds of the jobsite". Which included several radio shows and random KZread videos such as Tony Robbins........keep an open mind.

"I ripped them all up and did them the way you guys wanted them" That was a good one...
Anybody else get excited when they saw this was 26 minutes long? Nice progress, as always. The porch looks great.

Colin Hawkins No, I didn't get excited. I didn't look cuz I didn't want to see it was only 11 mins. My finger slipped as I was watching and it showed I still had again as much to watch. THEN I got excited. :D

yeah its good to make videos that are 20 mins or longer.. youtube ranks them better.. i think he still packed a lot into this video... hope he gets over 100k subscribers by the end of the summer.. 100k seems to be the tipping point and then things progress a bit quicker... he is good to watch.. nice southern guy .. doing mans work.. and providing for his family.. not some social justice warrior being a fool

Still sitting here waiting for the next video😂
Don't listen to the peanut gallery. The porch looks good. You do good work. I like your videos and your channel. Keep up the good work.
I agree on the handrail. Covered bridges are not made with treated lumber and have been around for over a hundred years, simply because the wood bridge is covered.
Omigoodness, little Cinderella house is getting so dressed up!! Now we get church bells, as well. I am quite smitten w this little place.
Seriously???? The amount of people who have never built a darn thing giving this man heck for HIS project. Good lord! Just watch the video and comment a Thank you for sharing or even Good job! Seriously Bless your hearts!
Woohoo can’t wait for the inside
Love it. You are changing that “house” into a “home”.
"I have a normal, man-hands, these are not baby hands." - You. Ha!, lol moment, good stuff!
Seeing you working on the little house motivated me to start working on my grandma's house (which is partly in a bad condition) :D
"Unless I decide to paint it all gray just to torture some of you..." Just one of the many reasons why I love watching you. I've always called that molding you're going to put on the rail "beaded screen molding." I dunno if that's right or wrong, but folks know what I mean when I ask for it. I'm with you. I built a new front porch about 2 months ago, 3 new sections of fence and a gate last week, and some of the free advice I got from the neighborhood "experts" was just amazing. Especially when it came to spacing deck boards and fence boards. The folks who ask questions, I answer. The folks who try to tell me what to do get a smile and an occasional nod. I'm in the process of designing a deck for the back yard, and just can't wait to hear the many "fun" opinions I get. Keep on truckin'! I'm really digging this series!
Can’t wait to see when it’s done

FrostyClipz its not about the destination, its about the journey...😊
Your all gray house reminds me of my grandfather. After WWII my grandfather was developing warehouses in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Every one of them was painted gray and the interior had some green. The paint was over supply from the Navy and the Army. He also had a pretty good supply of desks and file cabinets from the military as well. Like you, my grandfather was a quality craftsman and builder but function always proceeded form with him. Continued success to you.
You should paint it gray but make it not match the house slightly for maximum torture affect

I believe they are watching. I bet, he already got asked by several viewers, if they could rent/buy it ;) I would like to rent it myself. But I already own a nice house and I don't really need two homes :D
It's funny that people tell you how to do it as if THEIR the ones getting money out of it. I've learned a bunch just from watching this series and I wish I had the tools to practice doing it, myself.
I remember the first video you posted about this house & I thought, “who the hell would rent this place out?” Boy am I surprised!! Everything is coming along so nicely. I’m so excited to see it completely finished.
The porch looks fantastic. You don't have to explain yourself or your work, but the fact that you do speaks to your patience and willingness to teach others.
If I were your momma I’d be proud🌸

The house is going to look so nice once it’s done. That porch looks amazing you have put so much time and effort into it!
There is something extremely satisfying about watching a man do manual labor. The interplay of muscle and sinew beneath skin, as arms are raised and hands perform their tasks, is mesmerizing. This young man's subtle virility, as exhibited by his skill as a craftsman, is a lovely thing to behold and warms this old lady's heart. Bravo.
You know the saying about opinions haha... It’s your money do what you need to do sir. Can’t wait to see this all come together been watching since the start
I’ve never clicked so fast on a notification in my life! Wish I had a house like this, it already looks so cozy ❤️
You're doing fine, in my opinion. My dad built a deck similar to this. On the second floor and it was larger, but it was similar. I was a senior in hs, I drove by the house the about 2 months ago, and it's still standing. Looks brand new still. 👌🏾
The porch is beautiful. Thank you for your videos. Liked the music at the end. "Everything to God in Prayer".
The bells chiming in the background at the end were nice. Should do that every time! Just like Cooks Country on PBS!
Haha, paint it all gray. That would be absurd!!!!! Lol It’ll look great white as you planned. As stated before, the gray color is perfect, modern, and practical for an income property. The porch looks great, love the sense of humor in the video. Keep up the great work. All the people that complained about the deck spacing apparently haven’t built a porch or deck themselves, your job turned out clean and professional vs the other way would have looked off and not clean. The house is really shaping up, you will soon be harassed about the inside from some of these crazies. Lol 😁
Dark gray stain! That would look amazing and contrast the lighter gray of the house. You can paint the rail caps white. I know it would have been a lot more work but I would’ve loved to have seen the porch the whole length of the front of the house but I know that would be over kill! Excellent job!
The porch adds a lot to the house aesthetically, I believe a tenant or homeowner will be very pleased with it, and enjoy it.
You did right on the decking. Always butt them together. Think of women walking on them later with heals on. :-)
I just binged this whole series today. Sad and glad I'm caught up. Lol. Love it!

Same.
LOVE the hand rail's, front porch, instead of taking the easy way out with the railings, you went the way extra mile to make it nice, (fancy). I totally agree, and speak from personal experience, you always bump your deck boards tight, (they always shrink when they dry). The inside of the ceiling would look nice if you put bead board in between the rafters
Thank you for taking the time to film your renovation! I can’t wait to see the inside and love the talk radio 😉
Are you going to make some window boxes for the front windows. You’re so talented ! I’d love to see that!

That would look so nice.
I like the design of extending the deck out to the same level where the top step is!
Dark grey stain with white accents would look lovely on that porch! Its looking great. I could happily live in this quaint little renovation.
Most people would not have done such a nice porch but it just shows how much you care. Love and happiness to you.
Hi, I was one of the people that suggested leaving spaces between your porch floor boards. Thanks for following up on your answer from that time. It looks like you may have started a trend in your neighbourhood; it looks like the house next door is getting renovated, a new porch and old building materials in the yard suggest as much. Must make you happy as it likely improves the value of your house. Thanks.

Yeah, I noticed that! They are probably realizing that their place will look crappy once the house is done. But really, it is like a bug, you get bitten and want to renovate. You see the flaws on your property and you can no longer live with them. I think it is a positive influence. LOL.
I’m so happy you put handrails on the porch! Steps without rails make me so nervous even if they’re short
You are an absolute boss. Tell those haters!!! Keep it up dude. I can't watch your videos fast enough when I get the notification.
Very nice wook! That porch looks great and is strong!
Great porch. Renters will be happy and proud to live there.
I love that you are listening to Tony Robbins while you work
The porch looks fantastic!
Great idea about the pickets on the inside of the handrails. Thanks!
It's looking great!
Hey!! I'm a mama and I didn't comment on the spacing because I knew that!!! Hubby and I have fixed up more than a few houses and he taught me that!! Good job man, you are one smart cookie. But giving your explanations and countering these comments helps people learn.
You should go to Detroit, buy up a couple of houses on the same street and fix them up. You could create a whole block of good looking projects and raise the value of the whole neighborhood.
You should put a facia board behind your gutters. When you end up having to clean them out, if you want to do it fast and its wet then you can just use a blower to clear them asap. If you dont have a facia board behind the gutters it ends up blowing some of that nasty gutter sludge back up behind the gutters and all over what on the porch. Just my $.02
Really appreciate that you listening to Tony Robbins while you work.

Looks good. Nice touch with the church bell ending.
That porch instantly makes a welcoming home, great job
Awesome series man, love the content and growth you've made so far, keep it up!
I really like the porch and rails. It looks really nice
The project has come a long way, and looks awesome!
So young and hardworking. We need more people like you.
For the joists on the overhang, the code here in NC allows for a 2x2 under the joists with 3 nails under each joist, one under and one on to each side. Might give a better look than hangers or anything else.
What an amazing gift you have been given!! I could watch this all day! Thank you so much for sharing with us.
That porch looks really really good Well done man And I agreed with everything u did Wouldn’t question you , you do great work
I love the videos, thank you for sharing this journey with us. I love the chimes at the end also. I love the jobsite sounds too, lol
I love going on this journey with you! I’m learning so much along the way. This video was very interesting and informative, keep up the great work!! 😁
I've had good success on decks I've built in Michigan with Thompsons' Water Seal. Great work on this deck. All the detail really compliments the look of the house.
Watched all the postings Looking forward to #38. You've been doing a find job. Thanks for sharing.
I discovery your channel today and did pass all my sunday watching your videos and sir, i must say: you doing a tremendous and beautiful work. I'm love with that porch.
Excellent job on the porch!!! It turned out much better than I ever expected. Keep up the great work!!!
Love the progression of the work you've done on the home. Excellent job.
ofc no gap when doing floor. you did right.
It's strangely satisfying seeing you putting so much effort in every detail...
Nice job. Good explanation on the pressure treated wood. (shrinkage) Learned from this one. Thanks
It's really shaping up nice now man, who ever rents it out is going to love it cause you can sense that a lot of care and consideration has gone into it. Also I am definitely gonna get me one of them pocket hole jigs, dang that's a good idea!
Very nice Porch my brother I love it good job man later :)
Thank you for the video. I feel like I learn something new with every video I watch of yours.
The porch looks great and the house is starting to shape up
"Is the screen dark? Oh no I'm wearing sunglasses." Little things like that make the longer videos just that much better.
Very welcoming entrance, elegant and cozy at the same time .
I'm sure that other people have said it before, but man do I wish that I just had half the knowledge you got and tools you have. Amazing work!
Looks great, people always comment, it doesn't matter how detail or nice you make something.
That's exactly what I was going to mention. Distress the rafters a bit, and put some bead board in between with some type of base cap. It will always be water resistant as it's in the underside of the roof!!! I think that would really jazz it up a bit... And I like the pockets on the inside too.... Dirty Jersey out!!!
It looks great....I’m excited for the inside
Just binge watched all of this series from part 1.Looking forward to seeing it finished. Then onto the next build!

Great job you are full of common sense don't worry about the negative comments. Now days everyone is a expert and has a opinion about everything. Enjoy watching your work and skills.
I am enjoying watching you remoldel your house.
Helpful tip for you; when you mount the electrical boxes outside like that, use one of the holes on the outer rim instead of the knockout in the center. If you buy a light that is mounted on a single stud or has a bracket with a single screw(a ton of motion lights are like this), often a wire that comes in through the center hole will be in the way of the stud or screw when you go to set the depth on it. Then you have to get the depth just right and cut the stud or risk pinching the wire. Using an outside hole will save you that extra time. In all honesty, a metal pancake box like that is not rated for outdoor exposure and you should use a bell box but people use them anyway. So, the tip for that is to use a tiny bit of anti-ox or anti-seize on the screws so the do not rust into place. Old code use to allow us to just mount the mounting bracket for the light to the wall- those lights hold well but are a pain in the butt to replace the bracket.

love your vids!! nice work and sensible reasoning behind each step - I also like the fact that you are willing to point out the errors :-) keep up the great work!! I am about to start on finishing my deck and picked up some good pointers, and I have been at this 40+ years!
Great video I think you are doing a fabulous job on this house
I stumbled across this series and caught up over the last few days. Some of the decisions were a little confusing at times, but I was glad you explained your reasoning and even admit when you made mistakes (like the gutters). Great little series, and it's always nice to see how other people do things to have in the back of my mind when I go to do something. I know you're about a year in, but it's coming along great!

Let me help you out here...you put the posts that are under the deck on concrete footers because what you need there is support to resist the downword weight of the porch which concrete footers give you...you set the posts that are supporting the hand rails into concrete because what you need there is support to resist movement from side to side and front to back and surrounding them with/into concrete does that for you. You did exactly what you needed to do. And, I'll say this, that porch is very, very nice. Great job.
Great video man! Been learning a lot off this videos! Thanks
Well done on the deck spacing explanations :) Wisdom in action. It’s looking great!
Heck of a nice porch and stairs. Good and solid.
I wonder what the total cost of the house will be once everything is done and ready.

This cheap little house is gonna be a miniature mansion by the time you are done...Good Job! I always learn something from your videos and look forward to them.
Looks awesome. Installing paneling in between the rafters on the porch would be good to hide the OSB. Really enjoy your style. Thanks for taking the time to make all these videos.
that porch is looking nice. and Tony Robbins in the background is hilarious.
can't wait to see when its finished!!
With Tony Robbins in the background.. I love it
I love the porch! It looks great.
