$12,000 House - Starting to look like a Home - #41

Secrets to buying cheap houses- www.thehomesteadcraftsman.com/...
In the renovation process, drywall is my least favorite step, it is slow, heavy, dusty and I just plain don't like it...........although it is satisfying to see it going up. In this video I start hanging sheetrock on the ceilings and walls. I also show a little of the electric going live and wiring an outlet.

When I was a kid, and my dad was remodeling the house, he had us both on ladders holding up the rock to the ceiling and I got yelled at because I wasn't strong enough to keep it in place. Good times, good times.

13:00 Our 1964 house had *one* circuit for all the kitchen outlets. When we renovated it, we replaced the 60 amp panel with a 200 amp panel, and ended up with plenty of separate circuits: One for the fridge, one for the dishwasher, one for the garbage disposal, one for the microwave, and the other receptacles were separated into 3 different circuits. 5 years later, and I'm still just happy I can run the toaster and the microwave at the same time without tripping the circuit. :)

Hey!, I have one of those drywall lifts. I've got a 10' ceiling, used the lift plus I bought a couple of the budget price scaffolds that were useful as well. The guy I hired to finish the sheetrock was impressed with how good a job I did. I'm certain they hang it faster, but not any better. Those items paid for themselves on that job, plus you can sell them when you're finished and get a good chunk of your money back.

My brother and I were taught to use the chalk out of a chalk line to outline any electrical outlets. Then, We would place the drywall againt the oulets and have the exact outline we needed to cut out for each outlet. Yes, you are handling the drywall twice, but no measuring and no mishaps with unwanted holes. It made the job go a lot smoother for us. Carolyn

Also don’t use stabbacks, they’ve been know to fail so often, strip the wire about 1/4” and round it off. Wrap it around the screw terminal the same direction as you’d tighten the screw. Don’t roll the wire into the box, do a downward bend towards the bottom of the box and then to the top. You need 6” of wire from the back of the box and put electrical tape on the hot side of the wire for extra safety. (Tip for anyone who doesn’t know)

It's more a matter of getting the work done with all the other work I do, editing is time-consuming, but what you see in a 20 minute video normally equals days of work, sometimes weeks depending on what I'm doing. One video I did, furniture project, took 4 months......then someone says, "Post more videos". That's when my head drops and I sigh.

@@homemadehome5575 I bought a 1910 built 3200 sq ft house for 11k in 2010 during the housing crash. It was in a bad part of town but I invested 3k in painting lived there 10 years sold it for 99k. It has been renovated and on market for 220k. Its been gobbled up by the yoga pants crowd. I have done alot of pex plumbing and drywall with my harbor freight lift for friends. I have hired an electrician to go over where wire needs to be run and did all that myself. Then I've had the electrician come back ck my work and wire it in the box. It saves alot of money.

Something similar happened with my house. My uncle n grandpa put in the ceiling after replacing the roof. I can’t tell if they actually measured wrong or what but the sheet rock on the vaulted ceiling matched up with the wall real tight on one end and was like .5 inch gapped on the other. They patched it as best they could. It was really awesome to have our impressive new ceiling and non-leaking new roof. Plus, as a 6 year old I was like: you guys are sooooo coooooooool! 🥰 hehe.
