The guy who was “lighting his jacket on fire” was most likely burning away loose threads. I learned it in the military when I was a young man. They light up and burn away like a breeze and make your uniform look good as new again.

I think it's more psychological. When you hear that kind of sound you kinda expect the dial to go up thrice as fast. Given the age and mass of the car and it being a luxury cruiser the power is adequate.
