    I'm a retired locksmith. He went about it in a clumsy way. I could do it in 5 seconds. Just a tip, reinstall the knob before you snap the cylinders back in, insuring the keyway is right side up. That is, so the bitting (teeth) of the key faces upward. If you get it wrong, it will still work. It just looks more consistent and easier to use

    Thanks. Big help. I did not bother to try to solve this puzzle myself, fortunately, and went straight to google and youtube. I watched another video first which was a disservice to humankind. Yours was the second I viewed. You were patient. Points for that, right off the bat. Good camera work, too. I used a pocket, screwdriver to twist the shaft and to depress the spring loaded clips. My objective was to fully disassemble the entry set to clean, strip and polish it before reassembly and then apply the lubricants, etcetera. If I had noticed, in your video, the two-armed spring clip that holds the cylinder in place, I would have been able to get the cylinder out. Not knowing what exactly was holding the cylinder, I was hesitant to apply too much force. Did not matter since I was able to strip and polish the the escutcheon, knob and cylinder while assembled. But now I know that for next time. Thanks again.

    Bored Lock picker No, you have to use the correct end of the tool to pop the cylinder out. You do that in the video very quickly, but it's easy to miss since you don't mention it. This video was a huge time saver! I watched another from the rekey company, but he sure sped through the tricky parts For anyone else with a newer, "fancy" doorknob, this video is missing a couple extra steps! In my case, I had to insert the key and "unlock" the lock cylinder for it to come out after the spindle was removed - there was an extra spring-pin and lock disc to the side of the keyway. And that assembly has to be removed to get access to the pins, if you're rekeying it like I was

    I tried this today but on a newer model with a plastic spindle. I couldn't get it open. I believe there were 2 flat clips on the inside of the bore preventing the lock cylinder from ejecting. There was no way I could push them out of the way with a flathead. Possible that a custom tool the exact inner diameter of the spindle bore might work.

    Hi! This question doesn’t have to do with this video… but I can’t find anything anywhere to help me. I just bought brand new Kwikset door locks to replace in a house I just bought. I got the front door handle and deadbolt installed with no problems. I got the back door deadbolt and knob installed and working, but as soon as I closed the door, I couldn’t unlock it. The little lock button thing wouldn’t turn. I went around the house to open it with the key, but that wouldn’t work.

    I want to pull the core from a doorknob none of my Schlage keys fit into it so I thought I might be a quickest but it looks nothing like this knob. Mine has a square tube and then it has a metal tongue going through it I can use that metal thing to lock and unlock it the tongue goes into a twist-lock in the other part of the knob. How do I get the core out of a knob like that? There are 4 tabs that I can bend that would allow the housing for the spring to come off but not sure I should do that I have only one practise knob I need to figure this out so I can rekey my door but I'm not having any luck finding out how to do this knob I have does anyone have any ideas? I have a Schlage rekey set it came with a tool I'm wondering if that tool somehow removes the knob but when I stuck the tool in the hole nothing happened so I was hoping someone might be able to direct me to another source that could help with this specific type of knob.

    should be a hole on the knob and a spring loaded retainer you might have to turn the knob to rotate the hole over the retainer then stick something in it and push and the knob will pop off

    @@BoredLockpicker Thank-You your a genius I was thinking my description wasn't going to be enough for anyone to answer it. I don't know the technical names all of the lock pictures I could find didn't show the one I have. I have Schlage tools for pulling these apart I was sure it had something to do with that hole but I had no luck. There's a push tab sort of thing when the poker tool hit it I felt that it was a bit springy so I pushed and then the knob came right apart amazing. Thanks so much now I can practise putting it together and pulling it apart before I try doing it to my real doorknob. Truly thank-you these are not empty words this has been puzzling me ever since I got the Schlage rekey set it has the thing for pushing the half-ring off and a poker tool. Oh yeah, one last question on the core there is a cap that's on it which is what turns that tongue how do I remove it without bending it up? Will it just pop off when in a correct position or?

  • @BoredLockpicker

    @BoredLockpicker

    @@KoolBreeze420 no worries. Just FYI if your other knob is actual Schlage brand the cylinder will need to be turned 90 degrees usually clockwise other wise the retainer is blocked and won’t push in. Email a picture of the other thing you’re talking about. Theboredlockpicker@gmail.com

    @@BoredLockpicker Thats what I find odd about these doorknobs they look exactly the same, yet, none of the Schlage keys I have fit into the practice knob, I have no Kwikset keys, but size shape is Identical. OK, I looked at a core diagram they call it the core end peace or the end cap in my Sparrow (which are all Schlage locks) practice locks they are threaded and I use a tool to unscrew it to pull it apart, but this one isn't threaded like my practice locks. It's a cap that has 2 indentations that look like they are pushed in to hold the cap on. Its only function is to grasp the flat tongue in the doorknob so it can unlock. I just don't want to destroy it otherwise the whole thing will become a disaster. I live in Ontario Canada and these locks are the most common here. I can post a link to what it looks like from Amazon. www.amazon.ca/Raider-Stainless-Entrance-Handles-Lockset/dp/B08FGVYX3W/ref=sr_1_35?dchild=1&keywords=door+knobs&qid=1607623171&sr=8-35 This is exactly what the outsides look like right down to the shield that prevents access to the screws. Which is the main reason I need to pull the knob. Like even if I just wanted to say change the lock. I still have to figure out how to remove the knobs 1st to gain access to the screws second to get the core out for re-pinning.

  • @BoredLockpicker

    @BoredLockpicker

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@KoolBreeze420 if that’s your lock on your door is that one you won’t need to access the screws. You’ll just have to push the retainer in through the hole and the outside knob will off. It may or not require a key or to be picked for the retainer to move. If for some reason you want to get to the screws the inside knob will have a hole and a retainer. Push it and the knob comes off then you’ll have to either pry or unscrew the rosette and you’ll see the screws.

    Are there some cheaper versions of these? I have one where it is not disassembling like this and it looks like there are no spring loaded tabs, so no housing the cylinder goes into. Is there some other way that this may be released? No way to rekey it without disassembly.

    I can do that if you, but what part of it? Other than it looking kind of cheaper it looks to all be the same a regular quality lockset otherwise. I am pretty sure there are no tabs. It seems to try to come apart when I use the tool but it never does come out. What part of it do you need a pic of?

    I was able to do it, but one of the spring heads broke off. It still works, but the cylinder is a bit looser. If you're going to do this, get their stupid tool. Screwdrivers can, and will break the tabs if you're not spot on or use too much force. Kwikset sucks.
