Corrie was such a beautifully made thing...the little touches of this era, like the soft jazz closing theme and the romantic montages are really rather sweet.

Oh and the jazzy ending - fabulous. These are sooooo much better than todays corrie.
This is undoubtedly one of my favourite episodes (I would have been 9 months old when it first went out). I felt compelled to look for the music used in the scenes with Ray & Vicki. Turns out it's "Autumn Aria", by Roger Webb.
I've just about played the skin off me finger ends! 😂😂😂 Classic Ena one liner.
Her wedding outfit is very classy
So if Emily and Ernest are getting married now, that means the film Emily showed Ena and Minnie of her and Ernest’s holiday in Majorca a while ago was before they married! Oo I say, Miss Nugent!
This is a fabulous episode. All the legends are there and the end title theme is gorgeous I had a giggle at the bridesmaids all dolled up and puffing away on their ciggies. Hilda looks great in her hat. Jean Alexander was one cool lady. When they all went to Mallorca she sported funky sunglasses.
Ty so much for uploading these episodes great fan from nz here
Out of all the weddings we’ve seen on Corrie, I like Emily’s outfit best. She looked beautiful.
Seems strange to see them smoking in church! I don't recall ever seeing anyone smoke in church even back then.
Elsie looks like Adam Ant ! Lovely !!
Ena's dress....she wears it till every wedding. ivy Tilsley!!
The version of the theme at the end is brilliant! I'm sure there was a hammond version of the theme I heard once

Emily Elsie and Mavis looked particularly lovely - love the background music.
I had no idea Ivy Tilsley was in the street this early! Also, this must be one of Mavis's first appearances? Wait.. did I just see Albert Tatlock smile?

She worked at the Mark Brittain warehouse in the early 70s. She had a smallish role to start. When Mike Baldwin came to the Street and reopened the warehouse as a factory, Ivy's role was more meatier.
Thanks for these. Saw corrie from when elsie returned in april 76 i think. It was shown on granada plus.
Love the jazz version of the theme tune at the end

The ending theme was pretty good. It was different but nice.

My parents got married the same year and my mother's dress was quite similar to Emily's.
Jerry Booth does remind me of Tyrone. Emily's sister reminds me of Rita.
Is this the first appearance of Mavis? Loved Mavis. Great character.

One of the first appearances, she did appear a bit before this episode at Emily and Ernie's engagement party.
Blimey Mavis is 93 now 2023
13:06 Never seen Mavis as young as she is here, so sweet, bless her! I recognise the actress she's talking to - ah of course, she's Emily's sour-faced sister isn't she, I remember her in the episode when she was making tea at Ernie's funeral. She had hidden Emily's wedding photo, thinking it would upset her at the funeral tea, Lol!

There is some of the episode missing. The Granada PLus repeat had Emily and Ernests wedding vows.
Uncle Albert and his belly, hahahaha. Owt for a free meal. But blimey, what the chuff did Bet and Lucile look like, lol. Oh I know the 70s are seen as the decade that fashion forgot, I cringe when I recall some of the get ups I wore back then, but those two looked like the ugly sisters from panto. And smoking in't vestry, the scandal of it all, lol.

A time when weddings were reasonable in cost and planning. Weddings now are so over the top and most end in divorce. Society needs to go back to basics. Put the focus on a marriage that should last forever instead of only focusing on a wedding.

Funerals have also become far more expensive. My father's funeral in 1989 cost under £1000, but my mother's in 2014 was almost £5000.
Rare to see Bette without a ciggy. She was beautiful but the cigarettes spoiled it.

Albert and Minnie would make a nice couple. Love Minnie.
William Roache is an appalling actor. How has he managed to stay on the street this long. Eileen Derbyshire however is a fine actress. She is left the street quietly. A rare breed unlike the dreadful Roache

It's true. I always felt Bill Roache was a very wooden actor. He delivers all his lines in a nearly monotone voice no matter if he's furious, sad, happy, indifferent...I have far more attachment to the strong female characters of yesteryear... probably because the actresses who played them were so excellent!
@Uksoapfan
5 жыл бұрын
I agree, he is an atrocious actor. Ken Barlow is only around because he has been there since the start. Roache is as wooden as John Nettles in Midsomer Murders, who delivered his lines in a low monotone voice. His MM character is more boring than Ken Barlow.
@popazz1
4 жыл бұрын
Hurrah, thank you. Corrie has given Roache a very comfortable life and all he's given us is wood and splinters. He's been very clever though. Had he left the Street as so many others have done, to 'spread my wings', 'try something different', then he'd very likely have ended up on't dole. I can think of very few who've left who have been successful,one being Sarah Lancashire. Oh and Anne Reid who played Ken's wife Valerie.

To quote a famous saying by Senator Paul Tsongas, “No one ever said on their deathbed ‘I wish I’d spent more time at the office'." Unfortunately, Bill Roache, failed to get the memo!

It's a shocker isn't it? Check out Elsie and Alan's wedding in 1970. There's a musical interlude in that also. You haven't lived until you have seen that. 😂😂😂
@staceygrove5976

I'm wondering whether the production team got the idea of the musical interlude from the 1971 film 'Play Misty For Me', where a Roberta Flack song is inserted into the proceedings, somewhat incongruously. 'Vicky' by the way is played by Clare Sutcliffe, who co-starred with Jenny Agutter in 1969's 'I Start Counting', She played a 14-year-old called ;Corinne', though she was 25 at the time.
