Coronation Street-20th of March 1972.
The day of the launch of Shangri La has arrived.Jerry Booth is optmistic so you know it will end in disaster. If I was Ernie Bishop I would run for the hills at this stage,so close to marriage to Emily.I wonder if long term viewers then thought it wouldn't happen. As Emily's marriage in 1964 to Leonard Swindley didn't happen at all.Another top episode this anyway.

When I was little, I used to think Albert was a right grumpy old beggar. Now I'm old and grumpy, he's one of my favourite characters! 😂

I'll have a rum is one of his sayings. One of the few times he looks happy is when someone buys him a rum.Jack Howarth played him for 24 years so must have loved the character.
Delightful and enjoyable episode with many comical moments that the Coronation Street of now doesn't have which is why i don't watch it anymore. 😊
The next episode will be the day my friend was born i will share it to him
Another great episode, thankyou..loving Hilda's hat😂
I bet those stuntmen were freezing in that cold water!
Brilliant
Cheers! X
It's very sad that Graham Haberfield died at such a dreadfully young age. Jerry and Mavis were such a lovely couple and I always wondered how he would have been in later life on the Street and whether they would have got married.

I am just glad when he came back late 1971.He stayed with it till he died late 1975.It was some heart condition he had that lead to his death I believe.Maybe like Richard Beckinsale it was not diagnosed in enough time or at all.
Thanks...👍🏽💥🍻
Crazy to think some of these old people were born in the 19th century

@@chicagogyrl4846 Not many more than the main cast I said there. Some like Bill Roache are still alive so they weren't born in the 1890's now were they?!
Will you be putting up the 22nd March?

I am doing all of March 1972.22nd March will be up later probably
As poor as Minnie Caldwell's character is, I can't help but notice that she wears a lot of expensive earrings in her ears. Has anyone else noticed that. Today she wore sapphire & diamond earrings in this episode.

Margot Bryant was completely the opposite to her character of meek old Minnie Caldwell. She had an unintentional and rather abrupt exit in 1976 as she had been suffering with memory issues for a number of years, struggling with remembering her lines; there is a clip of her final scene in The Kabin with her reading her words from a piece of paper. She was living with Alzheimer's; surprisingly, she lived another 12 years til her death in 1988.

@@mrb3097 Very interesting. I would like to see that clip of her final scene. Any idea how I could find it?

In 1974 Susi Hush became producer. She felt Corrie had become too glamorous and upset some of the cast by insisting real jewellery was removed and hairstyles toned down.( I got this from the book The Coronation St. Story by Daran Little.)

@@oscard2994 I think Susi Hush was right because in some cases the jewellery doesn't fit the character. Minnie Caldwell being a case in point. She often wears expensive earrings.

@@dianewalker4633 it was on the 7th April 1976. You can find the clip on the Lewis Pringle channel.
3:50 If it takes Bet fifteen minutes to serve everyone, why wouldn't Annie help her?
