This is a great bicycle lock in the vein of "I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you" mode. It's better than a lot (or even most) other bicycle locks on the bike rack, and the thief will usually go for the lock of least resistance. Anything bigger than this and you end up paying a huge size and weight penalty. This is what decent U-Locks have always been about.

I have its predecessor and you are correct the older model only locked at one end. The opposite end just made connection to the barrel and a bend in the U-bar end. Definitely not a high-security lock. I use it to keep my folding bike together when riding on the train. I use a chain lock when out and about.

I left my bike in a garage two weekends ago secured with this lock. I assumed it was a safe place to store it. This lock withstood a prying attack with a 6 foot metal pipe. They dented in the steel frame of my bike a good 1/4 inch. My bike was still there when I got back Monday though. Just glad the thieves weren't more persistent. I will be investing in a more substantial lock, but this definitely holds it's own to brute force attacks.

I bought this one on your recommendation (because I can't afford the really high end ones) and can confirm it is secure...... so much so that yesterday I couldn't get it unlocked with my key, and a kind stranger had to cut it off for me so I could get home. it took a while and a lot of sparks to get it off, definitely conspicuous enough to deter lock cutters. but now I have to get a new one, and they're more expensive here than in the US....

Still fine and better than a cheap cable to use as a second lock if you want to secure your front wheel to the frame but otherwise your first u-lock must be a gold or diamond rated lock (from sold secure). I like the effort to redesign this lock because locking only one end of the shackle is not enough in 2021 if you want to meet the bare minimum security requirement (and even if you use it as a second lock).

1:06 "if you have a cheap bike, you live in a safe area or the security threat is otherwise low" if you live in a safe area, your bike will definitely cost a few orders of magnitude more than this lock. Cheap bikes use locks in the price range of a chinesium padlock plus a foot of flimsy chain.
