I took delivery of my 2021 Model Y December 31st 2020. Having this vehicle for 1 year has been a total joy. I drive Semi Trucks for a living having a electric vehicle and with such a quiet drive is a true pleasure. Glad i found your Podcast. I'll definitely be watching for the next one.

This update is not good in term of UI. 1- Dashcam should always be on the screen. I have driven many time without the Dashcam on because I forgot to navigate and turn it on. 2- cards should have stayed 3- menu bar should contain more items

Tesla is adding things to 3 and Y that are in S and X because it is cheaper for them to build. Less variability makes things cheaper (and faster) to build. It's also much easier controlling parts, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if many of these things are already being put into all the cars and they only have to turn them on in software.

It took me 2 minutes to find the fold mirrors on my first use after the update to exit the drive gateway at my daughter’s place, so I got out and parked up to relearn all the settings before continuing on my journey. Much of it is more logical. More warning, or an option to revert and migrate when it was convenient would be ideal. I only allowed last years UI change in September in advance of getting my Hansshow steering wheel centre screen fitted. Now I have the stuff I want to see large and bold on that screen, I am less bothered by skinny/small fonts on the main screen. Heated seat controls would be fine being hidden if and when the auto is properly calibrated, rather than bacon crispy setting like it tries to be now!

On the truck choice - I think it will entirely depend upon who makes the most volume. They are all good technically, but which one can you actually take delivery of (without paying 50K dealer gouge). You need to make more than one per month like the Hummer EV. I find it hard to give anything Mary says credence.

Hey, I am fine the update, other than when driving, driver is distracted trying to find the function you want. I have to get passenger to find the screen I want. Need more voice commands that open the menu or function you want. I used to have problems getting the tire or the trip Cards to show with my finger so always used voice command to show them. Now those commands are gone. Voice commands could open directly the screen you want without digging through the different menus to get there. Less driver distraction!

  • @Resist4

Voice commands are not the answer. It's way slower than pressing a button or tapping the screen. Also, having to use voice commands when taking to passengers in your car is very inconvenient or if you have screaming kids in the back seat.

@@Resist4 Not as slow as having to search for the correct screen. If talking to passengers is your concern, imagine how inconvenient it's going to be with the warning buzzer is going be when you get distracted trying to find the correct screen to access the function you want.

In Europe, we prefer a hatchback. Y is still too large for some. They would have liked the 3 to have been a hatchback. My kids are grown & flown so 3 sedan works for me.

Totally disagree on the range anxiety argument made by Eric. Got my first Tesla Model 3 Long Range. Took our first road trip last week. 1000 miles in one day. Started getting snowed on. Range was dramatically decreasing and in the south there are not near enough chargers. Had to drive 30 minutes out of the way to charge. I do not think range is the issue. I do believe we need way way more super chargers. Elon Musk said that the average American is 1 mile from a gas station but are 30 minutes from the nearest super charger. I love my car. I have shown all my friends the car. They are super interested especially after riding in the car. However, the number one thing I hear is range and chargers. Will they charge mostly at home? Sure. But I think we need twice as many super chargers as exist now. When that happens, we will be ready for mainstream adoption. Another reason I feel this way is the length the charge. If I could run the car down to 5-10% and then quickly charge back up to 50-60% and keep charger hoping I would. This would be much quicker on a trip. However, I am scared to run the battery down because of how minuscule the number of chargers that exist. We need many more chargers.

This may be complicated but I wish the climate control would have a "cold weather setting" with easy access to steering wheel/heater/defrost/seat heater. People who live in cold weather places can have this as an option in the bottom row without going to a sub menu

Released on Dec24, so Friday will mark 3 weeks since the stinker update V11. Tick Tock Tick Tock...where/when is that fix coming? Drove our model Y today after my wife, and as recently normal, got crushed into the steering wheel while I fumbled to choose my driver profile. Start of a drive should not begin with frustrated profanity.

Curious, Trev: if the car switches to your wife's profile based on her phone, why doesn't it switch to your profile with your phone? This works flawlessly for my wife and me. (Obviously moving the driver profile section was not good.)

V11 a misstep? How about total disaster. I hate it every time I get in the vehicle, it just plan sucks. Ruining my driving experience and starting to whey on my support for Tesla. If they can't fix immediately, then they should roll back to the last functional version. When they get the next update correct, then roll it back forward. Why is Tesla making us endure V11 until they finally get around to fixing it? I hate to say but for me, Tesla promises don't mean much, a quick fix, yeah sure, probably when they get around to full self driving. It's becoming very evident, it's a fantastically great car, but a C- company. Tesla beware, the competition will catch up eventually and most are far better with customer service.

@@Resist4 People are free to have their own opinion and I can understand the frustration but I've been driving my Model 3 LR Rwd since June of '18 and there have been many changes during that time that I felt were a step back or not needed. After my initial irritation with the new UI for the same reasons most people post, I've realized that there really are many features that I like and others that I really didn't need to access as often as I was. The auto seat heating has been working fine for us even though I had my doubts at first. It didn't take me long to learn that if I need defrost or rear defrost, I can access a small pop-up menu for that without having to pull up the main HVAC window. Getting a new UI with so many changes at once may not be a crowd-pleaser but it is one of the things that makes Teslas so special like getting a new car and having to learn all the controls again. 😎
