    [Bonus tipps here] 1&2: But what about half pressing for focusing? I use that all the time. You can’t do that when you change it to record. Some (mostly a7iv) bonus tipps that I can think of: - You can record in Full Frame 120fps 1080p 4:2:2 with the a7IV. theres a video on YT - With apsc anamorphic lenses you can use clear image zoom to 1.3x instead of using Super 35 mode and get a wider field of view - You can remove the a7iv side door if it’s in the way if you use a cage and side handle, and use the a7siii tutorial on YT on how to remove it - Leave the flip out LCD open to avoid overheating. Mine still overheats and shuts off often - Setting a custom button so that it switches between lcd and viewfinder, to save battery. Reducing screen brightness and have a custom button to access that menu to turn on the extra bright “sunny weather” setting for outside. And also turning off that it switches to viewfinder when it detects something behind it, most annoying thing - Shooting photos in bursts of 2 pictures so that the second one is sharper in case the vibration of the shutter did affect sharpness of the first shot, which you maybe only ever know if you have a second photo to compare - Using apsc lenses like the sony E 16mm or 11mm for when you use 4K60 on the a7IV, as a “workaround” for the crop

    Agree with half press for focus. Have to rely on auto which can be bit slow. With the button to change EVF and screen do you know if it works with A7iii tried finding the option but didn’t give it for any custom buttons.

    Is there a reason you all aren't using the "AF-ON"button for focusing? I've found it to be super helpful in having smoother shutter button presses, because my finger isn't already tense from trying to hold it at the right spot for AF. I'm confused by your last tip. How is that a workaround? It's just using an APS-C lens instead of a FF lens.

    I've seen a few of your videos about colorgrading in Davinci Resolve. I only shoot on Iphones, currently the 14 pro max using the Filmic Pro's Log V3 profile(washed & desaturated). When I create my nodes & it's time to start labelling them, it get confusing as to what should I do first & which one would affect the effects of others. I usually start with White balance, then color correction, Luts and sharpening node. When I want to do skintones, I create its node using the layer node right before I create the background node for instance so that anything I do to the background won't affect my skintone & vice versa. Now, that's just one thing though: background. What if I still want to protect other things that I want to stand out in the scene like the grass, red, yellow or any other color objects? Where should I place the node for that? before, together with nodes within the layer node or after it? I'd appreciate any detailed answer, thanks.

    I shoot both video and photo on my A7iv, I shoot in the S-Log 3 profile, and there is a gamma assist function which I assigned to one of the custom buttons to quickly see what the rec 709 converted image should look like, super helpful! Just make sure you turn it off when switching back to photo mode. Another tip would be to use the Custom mode preset dial, set one to 1080p 120fps, and keep the S&Q mode for 4k60.

    HOLY 💩, how come I not have seen the option of tip number 4 about for example PP not having to be kept for photos! Absolute gamechanger, and I will do this mod as soon as I get home. Tip 01 would have been really helpful for the Sony a6300 as the record button is really small and so inconvenient but this camera doesn't have that option but what it can do it program the c1 button next to the shutter button as the record button which works just as great. How to set the C1 button on the Sony A6300 1) Press the Menu Button 2) Go on the gear icon 3) Go to the 7th page 4) Select "Custom Key (Shoot.) 5) Select Custom Button 1 6) Look for MOVIE and select it. Hope this helps 🙏

    @dunnadidit I'm not sure if this is a sony thing or ZV thing. Is there a way to stop the camera (zv-e10) from saving thumbnails? When I upload to my computer, it has video files, and photos. The photos it saved are taken from the videos, I think??? Is there a way to turn this off? Thanks!!

    3:10 i agree, i mostly shot outside in the sun at 40 degrees at 4k 30 300mbps with the A7IV and i usually get it to record about 90 minutes before it gets too hot and turns itself off, but then i just put it in the AC of my car for 2-3 minutes and its good to go for another 90 minutes, my canon user friends cant even record for more then 10 minutes before their camera is dead, this is the main reason i went with a sony and i dont regret it at all

    You can put the format function in the "my menu" part of the menu. (gray star area). Every time you come home after shooting pictures you should first transfer all your photo's from the flash card to a safe place and then also back them up. After you tested that you can open the photo's from the backup location you should format the flash cards (both). If you have the format function in the my menu it is easy that you don't have to search for it.

    I like mapping a custom button be a "silent mode" toggle - when I'm doing street photography, event photography, or even when I'm just taking photos of someone who feels nervous having a camera pointed at them, I don't want the sound of the shutter to be distracting. The electronic shutter isn't great in all situations, but when it is and I can get away with it, I like being silent. Mapping the C4/trash can button to be an LCD/viewfinder toggle has been helpful, too. the auto-switching is always too sensitive for me.

    I've moved to Sony from Fuji recently and one thing that I'm struggling with is auto exposure. On fuji, it was smoother, on sony it seems to jump/step randomly when it sees a new subject and otherwise it's totally indecisive going brighter/darker constantly unless I lock the exposure. Any idea what settings to tweak for that? - I'm on the ZV-E1 with the latest firmware.

    This is controlled in your "metering modes". If you have set your metering set to just the spot in the center of your frame then you can imagine what happens if you try to photograph a zebra 😜 I would search for a video about metering on YT to get a better understanding. My conclusion is that there is not such a thing as a single solution for metering. I use the option to look at the whole image. The camera predicts then the best setting, but I do use the zebra setting as well and the exposure compensation dial for that. Not sure if your camara has that last dial I mentioned.

  • @DigiDriftZone

    @DigiDriftZone

    9 ай бұрын

    @@annoholics Thank you for your reply, I mapped my rear dial to adjust exposure and my metering is set to multi. Face priority in multi is set to on (maybe this is the culprit? - will try to set to off), my zebra is set to custom with lower limit at 95+ - largely to make sure my sky isn't blown out. With the above settings when I point the camera at a subject, the camera is adjusting from bright to dark to bright again (smoothly), but it can't make up its mind. When I am doing a walking video, it would suddenly step the exposure much brighter or darker (abruptly, not smoothly). I mapped the "record" button to lock exposure, so I just end up having to do that, but it's frustrating auto exposure is so schizophrenic in video mode, I was wondering if there's some setting I am missing. Will try searching for sony audo video exposure settings on YT.

    I still wish that I could set the Video Record File Name to be like on Cinema Cameras with Cam ID, Reel #, Date/Time, and then Clip #. So for example A Cam Reel 3 Clip 14 recorded at 1:43pm on September 15 would be A003_09151343_C014. This is how most cinema cameras do it like Arri, Red, Blackmagic, etc. So if I was using the camera as a C-Cam for my URSA Mini Pro G2 (A-CAM) and my P6KPro (B-CAM) out of dire need then the naming could at least reflect that by me choosing the Camera ID to be C-Cam so it would be C001_######. One question I haven't figured out. When I format the card in camera it always ends up as UNTITLED. Can I change that so that it actually is named something. At least with Cinema Cameras I format my cards and they are A001, A002, etc. I dislike loaded a card and seeing it come up as UNTITLED. So dumb.

    Unfortunately, Sony is atrocious when it comes to Screen Joystick and Joystick Button, that why someone who uses the EVF and needs to move the focus point is really scr*wed by Sony, no questions asked! Why? Regarding The Screen Joystick, it is laggy and slightly jittery, even in the latest cameras (a6700), it works like a touchscreen from 20 years ago, simply garbage. Compare that to Canon, and even in their entry-level R50, as well as in any recent camera, like the R8, the touchscreen joystick simply "flies", "glides", whatever you want to call it, it moves very fluidly with no lag, no jitters. The joystick button (the default function for the center button, on the back, in the center of the 4-way wheel) is useful that, unlike Canon, when you enable it, it stays on even after taking photos, so you can still move it! On the flipside, it's awful that Sony still has the screen/EVF switch button as the up button in the 4-way wheel, which is a huge design fail! Because of that, you must always switch between joystick button (moving focus point with the 4-way wheel), and going back to the functions of the buttons on the 4-way wheel. On Canon, also, you can just custom-make the 4-way selector on the back (where you have one, like in the R8, or R10 - which also has a proper joystick -, BUT NOT on the R50 unfortunately...) to just move focus points, and not to anything else. And a very useful function of the very latest cameras, Sony, Canon and others, that hasn't been covered is "high frequency flicker scan" or "TV scan" etc., that makes the camera scan the light, and then allow the user to apply a custom shutter speed, like 1/219.5, to mitigate the effect of flickering artificial light. It's also useful for shooting with the silent shutter, and in video.
