If you're nuts then I guess I am too, love these videos........I'm recently retired, turn 60 next month, and will be able to spend more time in my canoe and doing some tripping as well, just not real remote like Budnik and John, but tripping none the less. My canoe is a Old Town Discovery 169, so portaging is not something I'll be able to really do with the shoulder issues I have.

I stumbled onto lost lakes last fall, as way to get away from working in the ICU after traveling to CA had been closed so long. I became quickly addicted thereafter. His videos are really films so artfully shot and such incredible scenery and, wildlife, fishing, night-sky's, Nlights etc. It's hard to beat Jon's ability to capture N.Ont's beauty.

You know how to just talk enough, but not too much to the point I’m already on to the next video in my scroll feed. You can tell when people do this for the views, and those who do it for the love of doing it. Whatever it is that’s being done, you’re there; in the moment. You captivated that here perfectly. Now that I'm semi retired, I think I'm ready to trade in my FourWinns for a nice 17 royalex and go back to these last areas of pristine wilderness.

You did it again, Jon. Another trip, another home run. I'm happy to hear your knee held up even if the portages weren't too strenuous. And your photography was top-notch. The northern lights vignette with the music you set it to was truly magical and the shot of your silhouette and the lights reflecting in the water was worthy of a top, professional cinematographer. I could have watched that for hours. Now that the fall season is turning to winter, I suppose you'll be do some deep winter trips again. I enjoy those but not nearly as much as the summer/fall trips that truly show off that unimaginable far north country you guys in Canada are blessed with. Peace, brother.

I, too, enjoy my solitude. 2:12 Jon: 'Classic night one dinner', Me: Perogis, Jon: 'Perogis!' 4:25 Jon: 'Both of my regular tripping partners came into my dreams last night.' , Me: Erin and Xander , Jon: 'Erin ..... Xander' I think I've watched a lot of Lost Lakes videos! 😂 Also, 29:23 'and try not to get torn apart by wolves...' Your dead-pan delivery absolutely cracked me up! 😂

Jonathan- you’ve turned your canoe trip vlogs into a unique art form. There isn’t any other channel I know of that compares. It’s peaceful, thoughtful, humorous, and ultimately mesmerizing. And like others have said, somewhat addictive. In a good way. Due to circumstances, I was unable to do a canoe trip this season. But you’ve provided a vicarious substitute, almost as good as the real thing. Paddle on.

Thanks so much Rod! This is the one I bought for this season to replace my marmot minimalist (mostly I wanted XL instead of L): www.outdoorresearch.com/en-ca/products/mens-foray-ii-jacket-287615?variant=46585603981633 But it was probably the least I've got rained on in any season lol. Seems to work well...good reviews. The pit zips go all the way down, though I'm not sure I really care. I find the front zipper doesn't go up that smoothly on mine. But overall I like OR quite a bit and I buy a lot of their stuff

Hey man! Been watching your videos for a while now, and ive dropped a couple comments here and there to make suggestions. Im so impressed with your ability to capture the soul of our region in northern ontario so well. If you are ever looking for a good adventure this winter you are always welcome here in northeastern ontario. Spanish forest would fit your channel perfectly. One of the oldest red and white pine forests in the entire world. Cheers!

@LostLakes We are loving the new format. Love the wild life videography. Especially the attention to the smaller specimens. Please don’t stumble again carrying you canoe. Heart in mouth moment. Jon when you drank the unfiltered water whilst out in your canoe, I thought about what we do caravanning around Australia. And the idea originally came from your channel. It’s the LifeStraw but mounted in a drink bottle. Much more practical that the original LifeStraw you showed on one or your eps. All the best. Hope you recovery continues well. No commercial affiliation with LifeStraw.

Watched this with my husband last night and we both did a double-take when the "Uncle Phil" page came up. First, because we live about an hour north of Madison, then because of Phil Cotton. Almost 26 years ago, we ventured to Armstrong to begin our honeymoon: a fly-in canoe trip in Wabakimi beginning on Burntrock and ending on Kenoji. Nothing like the trips you do, but it was the first time we had done anything like it. Our outfitter hooked us up with a guide who planned our route, packed our food and gear, and coached us on everything the night before our flight. We only ever knew him as Phil. When we saw this, we both wondered, was this "our" Phil? We couldn't tell by the photos online, and I have yet to find my photos from that trip (1998....no one had digital cameras yet.) Today, my husband emailed the outfitter to ask. Yes, we learned from Phil Cotton himself. We learned a lot from him and we've camped every summer since. Thanks for the connection.
