Superb Jon! You have a real knack for this! Thanks. Another question if I may? In another video I think I noticed your buddy (red canoe, IIRC?) had a cover over the bow of his canoe. I think you mentioned he also had more experience in higher class “rapids” than you? He may have even taken your canoe down a particularly intense section? Anyway, it would seem those covers would be huge “safety” item in steep rapids, and/or even getting caught in high wind/big open water crossings. In essence, you’ve turned most of the canoe into a kayak, and would keep a lot of water entering the canoe unexpectedly! Clearly, again, I missing something! 😎 🇺🇸🇨🇦👍

Honestly Johnny, I’ve been watching you for three years. Comfortably almost every video in that time. Dude, this is a masterpiece of you and your style of outdoors filmmaking. You are one of my favourites for the quality of cinematography. The framing, music, colour palette, brilliant editing, makes me hunger for your videos. Picture quality I feel you pay attention to and it’s fantastic. One of the elements I enjoy the most is the cerebral element to your film choices. I’m a big fan of Xander and Jim Baird. I also love your buddy adventures with Xander. I also see you like peanut M&Ms. My man. But honestly I am a huge fan of what you do. You have inspired me to get deep into backcountry canoeing and I am blessed to have my 15 year old daughter be down to go with me for the past several years. I really love what you do as an artist. As a wildlife conservationist. And as a cool dude who gets absolutely great artistic and tasteful shots. I’m sorry for the injury but I feel you have found strength and a new direction as a result. Only the best wishes of recovery and joy to you. Please keep doing what you are doing. Your videos have brought such hope and joy to me over the last few years, I feel I must actually thank you. My man. Thanks John. Deano

Watching Jon and Erin for the past 3 years has been such an inspiration and positive influence on me, it had been so rewarding to watch his journey from those first humble videos to a gifted videographer and artist. One more thing. Your portage strategy is on point. My advice; when you heal enough to portage again, don't even tell anyone ( and just keep it like it is. Going downstream is what canoes are made for, especially mine. Maybe put in at a lake and take out at the same place. I know I'm a little older and female, but down here it's pretty common for everyone to just go downstream in canoes. Of course we have more linear rivers than water everywhere like The Canadian Shield. Have fun.😊

It's like a southern moss vs. a northern moss, but they look similar. Congratulations on your channel blowing up (in the good way). My husband and I have discovered that after taking our kids on longer trips from site to site, the “rest days” - though appreciated by the kids - feel a bit dull. It IS hard to sit still for 24h+. Our ideal is 2-4h of travel - just enough work to feel like an accomplishment, but not so much that the kids are tired and unable to explore and fall in love with a campsite. That site with fallen trees only made me worry about you tripping , but at least you could ice your knee in the lake.

Seeing bear like that is a real treat, it takes time in the wood to see a bear. And the moose too. I always feel bad when I encounter a a duck and ducklings and they scurry off ending with the mom faking an injury for attraction, but such is life, at least I didn't try to take them to lunch. Usually those full on camps with tables like that mean motor boats, I try to avoid such bodies of water. But once and a while I use them. I agree with your choice of camp site, btw. Good to see you out and about.

The bear footage was amazing, your astrophotography is excellent, the moose shedding the winter coat, followed by the cow with calf...incredible. Loved the otters! Frankly I'm not all that disappointed that you didn't have footage of you carrying your gear through the woods Jon. Just sayin'. I come for the bears and the moose and amazing scenery and the awesome camerawork. If I never see another minute of you carrying your shit over a portage, it's okay. Kidding aside, it's great to see you up and about and talk about landing back on the channel with a bang. Awesome, epic, video.

I can't believe how much wildlife there is in this but then again it's lost lakes.

Glad I found this video. I've watched so many canoe video's that are always the same old thing. They go from one lake to another, do crazy portages, just to do it all over again. I would rather see you go around the whole lake, multiple came sites. Do some bush crafting. Ya know?

Havent watched yet; just wanted to come down here and give my thanks for yet another movie of your travels, Jon. Especially given the context regarding your knee (also very impressed that you're already out and about), I am extra grateful for this one. Hope the knee is healing well! Take care

So great to see you back in the groove BUT also erring on the side of caution. Your birdie friend at 29:30 is a Swainson’s Thrush. Since I’ll probably never see a Loon in real life, I’m always grateful you take the time to include them in your videography. Be well and be safe!

Loving this video and not even 3/4 through! The Black bear segment was great. The Star gazing segment fantastic. The fact that you pick a great place the meets your requirement to not aggravate your meniscus injury is awesome. This is a fine example of healing and moving on and being smart!! You should be proud of this video! What is the bird with the black head and white body??

You certainly have not lost your touch. Like most of your subscribers I look forward to every presentation (they are not just videos, they are special). I cannot quite understand why you only have 223k subscribers - they don’t know what they are missing.

Thanks as always for bringing us along and sharing your passion. Nice to know that you are striking a good balance between still doing what you love but also being smart and taking care of that knee. Don't rush it. We will still be here to enjoy whatever video you choose to do, regardless.

Lol crossed my mind but I figured it would prefer to go down the shoreline rather than be picked up than a presumed predator 100x its size. Thank you :)
