I sanitize every load of laundry with Oxy Clean, and it's one of the ingredients in my homemade toilet bowl cleaner -- the results are marvelous. An added bonus is that the containers make wonderful stacking-organizer storage bins. Just paint them to coordinate with the room's decor, affix a label to the outside, and put them to work in kitchen and bathroom cabinets, craft room shelves ... wherever. Don't throw them away, repurpose them at home, and when all of your own storage needs are met, save them for your friends and neighbors.

I use OxiClean for 90% of ALL household cleaning tasks, including solo addition to laundry (no detergent). Favorite is how it freshens kitchen dish cloths and sponges on daily basis. Yes, you need to dissolve it before using in washing machine. It's also good for stuck food in pots and pans.

My Aunt had a very high quality, queen sized, down comforter, peach colored, purchased in the 80's. She also smoked 6-7 packs a day for many decades. Nevertheless, she kept her home very clean and tidy, though the tar and nicotine was what it was. In her late 60's. She quit smoking, cold turkey. The comforter had never been cleaned. I soaked it in oxiclean (dissolved it in hot water first) in a utility sink for two days, changing the oxi/water daily. (This water was dark amber first time - light amber second time.) Then placed it in an extra large top load washer, hot water and more oxi, let it agitate a few minutes and turned the machine off to soak a few more hours. Repeated with small amount of detergent next step. Then a final full wash with only hot water. Into the dryer on low for a few hours, removing and readjusting every half hour until only damp. Then 48 hours over the banister, fluffing and flipping as needed. 100% perfectly clean. No odor - just clean. I LOVE Oxiclean!

When Oxyclean first came out I decided to clean my carpet, which was lite beige...and when I was done, it was CLEAN and showed the lite beige as though it were new carpet...a lady in my building one day asked if I'd ever used those rental machines you get a the store and when I told her yes, I also told her to use Oxyclean...when I saw her sometime later I asked if she like the Oxyclean and she said NO, it stained my carpet...I realized she didn't realize it CLEANED her carpet and what she was seeing was a little place she had cleaned NOT the entire carpet...will never forget that...couldn't get her to understand....but to this day, all these years later I use it all the time and love it.

Omg and I bet she just kept walking on that nasty carpet 😂! I used oxi on my bedroom carpet and it looked brand new as well once I was done. I pressure washed my deck with a little oxi too. I started on the stairs first I was SO embarrassed to find out my deck wasn’t gray it was natural looking pine full of mold!! We had been remodeling the house during quarantine and was just getting to the outside after being here a year. I worked until 9pm to finish because I was to embarrassed for someone to see it 😂! It was hard work but I sanded it and painted it a gloss black it’s beautiful.

Anything can have a chemical reaction to some carpet dyes and should ALWAYS be tested first. Anything. I spilled an entire orange soda in my brand new car once. Within 5 minutes, I was at home and soaking up the soda with my best white towels (first I could get to!) As the towels became very wet, I found it odd they were completely white. The orange dye chemically bonded to the carpet fibers immediately and never came out. I have also had cleaners stain a carpet when a cleaner wasn't designed for that purpose. Always spot test any cleaner when using on carpet - even if it's designed for carpet.

I've had great results cleaning nasty kitchen carpet in my fiance's home. I found that double or triple rinsing helps it stay clean much longer as the gunk doesn't hang on to what's left of the cleaning solution whether it be OxiClean or something else.

I have a really really old toilet. And it's a rental that I live in and the toilet is a Gerber toilet which I've never heard of. But I tried everything the clean that toilet bowl. I've tried bleach I've tried cleanser I've tried Bar Keepers Friend everything all kinds of homemade remedies nothing works. So I tried the OxiClean and it helped a little bit I did see a video using OxiClean and vinegar. What else do you suggest? The thing is that I live out in the country and utilities are really expensive and I have to conserve so the toilet probably gets flushed not as often as it should. With the saying yellow mellow, without being too gross but you know where I'm going. So I just don't know what else I can really do to keep this toilet bowl cleaner any suggestions would be great I'm going to try the OxiClean with the vinegar and see how that works.

If you have a dishwasher--put half the amount of detergent--with the other half OXYCLEAN --it is great for dishes & also cleans inside of dishwasher. Great for percolator coffee pots, tablespoon OXY. & half fill with water--plug in for full cycle(too much water & it overflows). Also use in plastic pitchers that I have tea in (no tea stains)! JB

Oxiclean is mostly filler, which is the soda ash. It cleans, but is not the magic of the other main ingredient, which is sodium percarbonate, not hydrogen peroxide. Sodium percarbonate is all one really needs, and is what gives the cleaning power to Tide, etc. Sodium percarbonate breaks down into hydrogen peroxide and soda ash (washing powder). And the hydrogen peroxide breaks down into oxygen and water. You can also approximate sodium percarbonate, I hear, by combining baking soda and hydrogen peroxide, which will yield a liquid, not a powder. Sodium percarbonate is a powder, and so maybe the baking soda and hydrogen peroxide idea yields sodium percarbonate in water, I don't know, but I have heard that it works as well as sodium percarbonate. Sodium percarbonate takes out the stains that Oxiclean leaves behind, and it doesn't harm the environment.

@@mercedesbenzs600bash I don't have the recipe, but you can buy the ingredients and mix them in proportion to your preferences. The soda ash is a good ingredient, but, it's not as powerful as the sodium percarbonate ... so, you might want to experiment as you can make your own stronger batch of "Oxyclean" by using more sodium percarbonate than soda ash. Or, you can just buy Oxyclean and supplement it with sodium percarbonate to boost it. I don't have any exact recipes, but I'm guessing that it's failsafe to experiment around a little with the proportions. To whiten whites, it's also good to use as hot of water as the material can tolerate and you can even simmer the whites in water and the normal detergent to get them whiter. I've poured boiling water onto white handkerchiefs with detergent, in a 4-cup borosilicate vessel, and it really whitens them and lifts the stains.

I use "The Works" liquid toilet bowl cleaner: it absolutely gets rid of stains/hard water scale in toilets! I squirt in about 1/4 cup, let it sit for 20-30 min., and give it a quick scrub. Works like a charm! (FYI: I used to feel I had no choice but to use a pumice stone, but The Works really does the job, and without potentially scratching like a pumice stone)

  • @gerilynn9002

Certainly oxi clean is great for many applications BUT.... don't do what I did. Commonly I would use a slightly watered down liquid laundry soap in a spray bottle as a pre-wash on stains. Well I had emptied my container. Not feeling like going to the basement for the liquid soap I reached for the powdered Oxi and dissolved it with some water. I finished spraying my laundry put a load in wash and laid down for a nap leaving the spay bottled mixture on my coffee table. WELL... not foreseeing there would be a problem with what I did I found I was very wrong. I had a horrific surprise when I woke. Pressure had built up so much it must have first sprayed and then blew the top off the bottle. What a mess, it sprayed from one side of the room across the ceiling down the opposite wall and dripped down from everywhere it hit. Sssspppss! KaBoom! What a rude awakening. A hard lesson learned, I guess it produced oxygen pressurized and overcame the capacity of the container. So if you want a liquid spray buy the one they produce. Don't DIY your own at home.

I use Oxiclean to soak clothes outside, inside a glass cookie jar and Sunshine. I pour the water on the grass the next day or so, when I'm done soaking items. It will kill the grass, and I do not dare put it down the drains in my house. I am very protective about my septic tank.
