10mm Reloading

Спорт

I thought I would do a quick refresher on reloading the 10mm. I will be using these reloads to go up against some factory challengers.

    Jr i don't know if you have tried a different powder for your semi autos but I highly recommend Alliant power pistol especially in the 10mil with 180 projectiles and maxx throw its amazing through the chrony brother 🙌

    You ever have the Glock locking block pins walk out when shooting?

    Fortunately both my G20 and G29 were mostly stock, and I never had any pin walk in either weapon. Thanks for watching. Have Fun Be Safe.

    Hi Jr10.... I noticed you use magnum primers in your 10 mm Glocks... Do you think they would be ok to use with CFE Pistol or Winchester 231 in my Glock 20.... Thanks for your thoughts..

    I love the 800X but good god it meters horribly! Whenever I use it I make sure to hand weigh every load. I mostly use it for ultra hot loads that make all the 3 bears offer me their food and all 3 beds to sleep in... Lol. Blue dot is probably 95% as good and meters perfectly.

    Lol, Love the three bears comment. You are so right about the 800X metering. I always say it is like metering corn flakes. I also love Blue Dot. It has a little to much flash I think for self defense use, but when I load some of my really hot 9x25 rounds with it, it becomes quite the show stopper for people around me. :)

    @@jr10 I also love power pistol for the 10mm. I usually can get about 1280fps with a 180gr lfp or xtp bullet as opposed to 1350-1370fps with 800x. I think it has less flash but just a hair more felt recoil with the power pistol. About the same or a little better performance than the blue dot. I lucked out and found 1000 9mm and 1000 10mm bullets online, a 1lb jug of unique powder locally(first time use for me so I'm excited. If I like it enough the guy had 4-5 of the giant tubs of unique powder and I'll get a big tub). Now if I can find some large and small pistol primers I'll be doing just fine!

    Thank you. My 180 grains did very well. They were the quickest in the group with an average velocity of 1393 fps. Underwood came in second with an average of 1313 fps. The complete results are in my 10mm Need for Speed video. if you really want to see what power this round has, my 9mm vs 10mm Bullets, Bones and gel video I just posted, shows the damage to a rib bone in ballistics gel. About half way through,I have a closeup of the bone and its damage. Pretty potent round. Thanks for watching :)

    I agree 100%. Kevin is the man in just about every caliber. I have sheets for .357, .44, 9mm and .22LR if you are interested in them. I spent a ton of time and money testing everything out there.

    Excellent observation. as stated above.I am a huge fan of Underwood. I was just trying to get people to understand that they don't need to pay $20 to $30 for 20 rounds of premium Hornaday,DoubleTap,Buffalo Bore etc.There are other options out there if you look into it.After experimenting with ever hotter loads and finally putting some 10mm laser darts together,I saw the light. As you said, it's shots on target! I did a video on that. It does no good to have a 1300fps bullet missing from recoil.

    I love 800x even though it is a pain most of the time. While the size and shape of the flakes make it difficult to meter in most cases, it has the subtle benefit of prohibitive double charging due to it's volume.The burn rate and pressure curves are awesome for this caliber. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have Fun Be safe :)

  • @jr10
    @jr1011 жыл бұрын

    The downside to 231 is that it is a very fine ball powder that meters very well.While that sounds good, it is very easy to double charge a case.The starting load for your bullet would be 4.1gr with the max at 5gr.It would be very easy to fit 10gr in your case if your not diligent.Blue Dot is right in the middle as far as metering.It would be very difficult not to notice a double charge.Add to that it's almost perfect burn rate and pressure curve for this caliber, It's a winner! Have Fun Be Safe

    If you have very deep pockets, go for the 650.I have been using the 550 for years. It is light years (in my opinion) ahead of single stage presses.Unless you are intending on doing high quantity reloading, go with the 550.The 650 is built for high volume automated reloading. With auto indexing, auto case feeding, you will be hard pressed at times to keep up with it. With all the needed accessories for the 650 to truly shine, plan on about $1100 to $1200 3 times the 550 cost! Have Fun Be Safe :)

    How does 800X powder compare to Blue Dot and AA #7? Also what would be the best powder for light target loads for the 10mm, and what would be the right bullet weight? I was thinking for target shooting I'd use 155 grains and Winchester 231 powder. I'm new to reloading so I'd like your opinion.

    EXCELLENT vid on 10mm. I have a Glock 20 and found I need to reload to be able to afford to shoot it on a regular basis. I have a question: I see you're using nickel-plated brass vs regular brass. Is n-p brass more durable than regular brass and can it be reloaded more times than regular brass? Thanks in advance - and thank you again for a very informative vid!

  • @jr10
    @jr1011 жыл бұрын

    To be honest, nickel plated brass has only subtle advantages over regular brass. As far as strength goes they are the same. I like nickel if I can get them on sale. The nickel cases resist corrosion better, and clean up easier. for that slight benefit you might pay more.My reasons are even more subtle. I am able to pick up on the earlier stages of Glock Smiles with nickel cases. Also when i'm at the range nickel cases are easier gather up among all the other regular brass. Good Luck & Be Safe :)

    Blue dot works well for this caliber.It produces good power and has a good burn rate .The down side is it produces to much muzzle flash.It's a great show load for indoor ranges.With respect to your bullet weight of 155gr AA#7,Blue Dot and AA#9 are very close in burn rates, All would be great for this round.If you get into a heavier bullet ie 180 gr then 800x is your power choice. Perfect burn rate but a pain in the butt to meter. 231 is a good clean burning accurate powder.Good practice load :)

  • @jr10
    @jr1011 жыл бұрын

    Well, without knowing any particulars about your weapon, and it's upgrades if any, my first choice would be Blue Dot. Here is why I suggest this powder for you. Being a new reloader, there are going to a number of new techniques to master. While I love 800x for this weight group, it is a very frustrating powder to weigh accurately. It can be very frustrating for new re-loaders. 231 is an excellent powder for training purposes, and has a good clean burn rate.

    I load 12.2gr of accurate # 9 with CCI 350 mag primers on a 200gr hornady hp bullet , out of my G29 it's one hard hitting round it gets to the steel plates fast . With 13gr on a 180gr bullet it gets there even faster.There very good stout loads !!

  • @stevenkh1
    @stevenkh111 жыл бұрын

    It sounds to me like he was going to see how his reloads would do against Underwood's. For me, it's not about the hottest/fastest but the most consistent rounds to help me be as accurate as I can be.

    Hey, I just got some Hard Cast in from Missouri Bullet Company, specifically their 200 gr 18 Brinell Hard Cast Hi-Tek coated TC bullets. I’m trying to create a cartridge that is as good or better than the Buffalo Bore line, that I always bought over the years, for bear protection here in Alaska. Of course they don’t give any load data. I have a few books that give load data for jacketed bullets, but nothing for Hard Cast accept for a weak load for one type of Hard Cast in the Accurate website. The two powder choices I have are Blue Dot, and Accurate #9. My new Hornandy manual, Speer 12th edition. and Accurate’s data, are all seemingly miles apart on mon and max loads. Would you have any suggestions as to how I should obtain data or a starting point? A friend said to me I can use the same data for Jacketed bullets. Is that true, and why would three sources list such different charge recommendations even with the same bullet?

    Of the two, I like #9 with an edge on accuracy. For my taste, when I want raw power, nothing beats IMR 800X. It is a pain in the ass to meter, but you can't beat it unbridled power. Have Fun Be Safe :)

    Can you tell me what the charge is of 800 x with that 180? And the overall cartridge length? I use 800x with the RCBS scale because those are exact. It is just a lot slower to use it. Takes me about 1 hour for 100 rounds vs 400 with the Dillon. Blue dot makes some good loads too. My recent experiments have been with Hogdgon Long Shot trying to pass 1500 without pressure issues using a 155 JHP. I'd like to know what Underwood uses for powder behind the 155 JHP. Any idea?

  • @jr10

    Wow. I think you have misunderstood the intent of my video. I was not trying to put Underwood down. I am a BIG fan of their product. Finally a company has come out with a quality product at a fair price! I am tired of people paying premium prices for misrepresented ammo. I actually did beat Underwoods velocity by almost 100 fps with the same components. I had audio problems that negated me posting the video. I am currently redoing this video. I had similar results in my 9x25 throw down. Be Safe!

    I totally agree and understand what u mean brother. If I wanted to shoot 40cal I'd have bought a 40cal. As it is my glock 20 will fire both with the 10mm magazine. I know it's not recommended but I've run 1000's of 40cal though my lone wolf with no ftf or ftl issues.

  • @Courageous_Lion
    @Courageous_Lion10 жыл бұрын

    800x powder has the same size flakes. You don't ever get it stabilized. I use a RCBS scale that automatically meters the stuff. And you better remove it from the scale or it will react to the plastic.
