When Atlantis: The Lost Empire first came out in 2001, the reaction from both audiences and critics was lukewarm at best for some reason, this movie was dope, everyone in 2001 is an idiot. Because of this, we’ve never really taken a deeper dive into this movie before, but that changes, today. I’m Jacob with Channel Frederator and these are 107 facts you should know about Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Except it’s not really an empire since an empire would imply they control multiple nations and like, they have a King not an emperor-WHATEVER that wasn’t one of the facts...

Mine too. I really want Atlantis to appear in Kingdom Hearts. Been wanting it since 2005. I’m afraid it might never happen. I even have an idea of how it would work into the plot of Kingdom Hearts. It involves a certain person being connected to Atlantis and the Atlanteans having knowledge of the origins of the keyblades as well as having been a battleground for a previous keyblade war (one mentioned in Kingdom Hearts X by said person). It would be so awesome if Nomura could pull it off plus Yoko Shimomura would probably have a good time tweaking the songs for Kingdom Hearts. The Crystal Chamber song is my favorite from the original sound track.

@@mirandagoldstine8548 The problem is that because Atlantis has a twist Villian, incorporating the world into Kingdom Hearts maybe difficult. Theres a reason why Monsters Inc takes place after the original film in KH 3, no twist villain.

@@orangeslash1667 They had Tarzan in the first game and there was that big reveal in a end credit scene which I will not spoil so I’m convinced Nomura could do it. It’s probably Disney still feeling sour about how poorly it did. However if they did put it in I think it would generate a lot of hype for the film because it was my favorite Disney film growing up and I would love it to make an appearance if not a reference in the Kingdom Hearts canon.

You missed the part where Milo mentioned having the Atlantean crystal be sold off to the Kaiser. It could imply that Rourke is having backdoor communication with the Germans pre-WWI, And Kida's design were not sole based off Western ancient civilization, but in fact were a mixture of a lot of cultures. It was even mentioned her eyes were inspired from the East Asian look. And I think Milo is the first Disney Protagonist to cause the deaths of his crew .. specifically when their camp was wrecked with fire

Just to point out that Persia under Cyrus was an empire yet he and his successors would hold the title of King of Kings, King of Countries, king of Persia, of Babylon and Pharaoh of Egypt. I think with Atlantis it was an empire seeing as they hold that the Atlantean culture influenced many others. The king himself says he used the Heart of Atlantis as a weapon of war, one would assume it was in the interest of expansion.

You probably could build a sub like the one in the film, but the glass would have to be some pretty strong glass to hold up against the pressure. Some Soviet era subs had windows on the conning towers. They helped with the pressure issue by making it a two-pane window with an area for the water to get between them. But a severe weakness of it would be the dome in the front.

And yes I’m sure the money is what is a decides who is a Disney Princess and who isn’t. Mulan is a Disney Princess, but some could argue Mulan represents a race and people while kida’s race is completely fictional. I always took ms packers smoking as a signal it was more adult orientation movie. She would probably would be censored or cut out completely because of her smoking and more darker humor (she sleeps in the nude)

Thank you for the facts! Its one of my favorite Disney movies! It’s really sad that it was originally supposed to have an actual sequel and a tv series exploring more about Atlantian culture and especially Kida as the first Disney queen. She’s my 2nd favorite princess and I still say she deserves to be official! Honestly I blame the release timing considering the other movies that came out that unfortunately it was majorly overshadowed, same problem with Tangled being very so stupidly released the same time as Toy Story 3 (and I think How to Train Your Dragon 3) so it had to compete against nostalgia, which is so unfair, even worse Tangled didn’t even get nominated for best animated feature. Actually Kida was supposed to be the first Disney princess without a song or sidekick, and I mean Merida and Raya don’t sing either. I think if Atlantis got a good live remake, it’d definitely respark interest, but a lot have kinda stunk and got pure hate (looking at you Mulan and Lion King) I even remember watching previews for Atlantis and it seemed so different for a Disney movie! Too bad its one of the “forgotten” Disney movies

Atlantis is really awesome, and honestly one that might do well with a remake, though the love admittedly isn't there. It's a surprisingly 'modern' storyline for a disney movie, considering when it was released. And honestly the animation is top notch. And one of the best twist villains.

@Joshua 1992 It would make for an AMAZING live action. If they gave it a little bit of that Marvel money for the CGI, effects and set design... XD

I also believe Dr. Joshua Sweet is Disney's first afro-indigenous character, which is also monumental for representation in indigenous communities.

Anouther fact. Statues from Atlantis can be seem in the new Disney dreamlight Valley game possibly as an acess to a new area in the game. Personally I would love for both Atlantis and Treasure planet to get a live action remake both were critically under rated at the time of release and would be great to see brought back to life.

Fact 22: actually we can see 6 leviathans! in the very opening scene with the explosion, you can see the main three followed by a second row of 3 behind them. its a shame this movie didn't do so well. i remember watching it as a kid.

I have another fact: there’s actually a video game made for this movie, the first half, titled search for the journal, you play as who is presumed to be Milo’s grandfather (or some random soldier) as they go to Iceland to retrieve the Shepards Journal, the second half, titled trial by fire, you play as Milo and run through the events of the movie with some altered events and plot points to make it more playable. It was my all time favorite thing to play growing up on my grandpas old windows computer, I still have the disc and it’s cover to this day.

James Garner was a perfect 'twist villain' for this movie! His naturally good-natured voice, manner & film persona leave us unsuspecting and make his Evil Reveal greater in contrast as a result.

In a historical aspect soldiers wouldn't see gas mask as standard equipment until the use of chemical weapons in warfare in August of 1914, but it wouldn't be until late 1915 that nations started to provide gas mask to troops as standard equipment.
