I recently started a foster dog journal. Each dog i foster gets a double page spread dedicated to photos and memories of them. Its my way of feeling better about them moving on and thinking about how many dogs I've helped find their forever homes 😊

I have written a journal for my daughter, adopted daughter, from our meeting, when she was 2 years old, to her 12 th birthday. I gave it to her for her 16 th birthday and she was very happy. Now she is 31 and she has the project to go to her birth country which is Vietnam. So I take this diary again as a net and i try to deepen my memories and write as much details as i can remember about our common history in Hanoi, the places, the peoples, the food, the plants,...

As much as we don't want to write passwords down, when my dad passed away unexpectedly, his little notebook left beside the computer with all his accounts for household bill-paying etc. was SO invaluable for my mom. So maybe just keep it in a safe place at home.

I have a journal that on each page I write a sentence created by a random prompt site and use it to prompt a creative writing exercise. I keep it to one page per sentence and then afterwards I decorate around the page in a style to fit the mood of the writing. I find it really helpful in developing my writing skills, as often it challenges me to write different genres. And I get a chance to use stickers and washi tape from my collection.

The most common use of journals for me is usually for LARP (Live Action Roleplaying) such as recording stats, events in and out of character, lore as perceived by the character, campaign progress, mechanics/cheat sheets for calculating rolls, etc. My most recent ones I have been transcribing real life and game world versions of the same topics for comparison.

Love these ideas! I also have a small lined journal I bought at the dollar store that I use to track my makeup, skin care, and hair care products in. I track things like when I purchased the item and when I opened it, so I know when it's time to toss it (helpful for me especially for makeup as I don't wear makeup daily). Any products I try that don't work for me so I will remember not to buy it again, and the same for products I really liked and want to buy again. New products I want to try, and anything else related that I want to remember when needing to purchase something. Like the color of lipstick I liked or which shampoo worked well with my hair type, etc.

Positivity journal. I write down at least 3 things that were positive about that specific day. Especially on the hard days, when getting out of bed is a big win. A housekeeping journal. To write down what I did and when, so I can track when I last cleaned out the fridge (example). A plant journal. A journal dedicated to your plants. What do they need, when was the last time you gave them new soil, etc.

I only have one journal outside of my bujo, and that’s my craft journal. I make a lot of jewelry pieces, so I use it to track where I get my supplies and tools from, expenses for materials and work hours (for calculating the cost of the pieces), personal projects and commissions, making notes on techniques and skills I’m learning or want to learn, sketches of designs or reference images, etc.

I started journaling because I started a “commonplace” book and it morphed into a kind of catch-all journal for ideas, thoughts, learning, and “long-form” or “diary” keeping, I think I also do “reflections” here on occasion but don’t really think of it that way. I never liked journaling until I came to it myself, just because it felt right for the time. I also have a composition book that holds my reading log; I have kept one for the last 18years and am in my third. I also have a catch-all projects planner that holds project ideas (both household and craft), swatches of yarn & ink, and active project notes. Then I have the necessary work notebook. I am getting ready to start a faith/Bible journal and a 5year, both of which I am looking forward to.

Awesome! Thanks, Jess. I am using my daily bujo, a long term collections journal and the Powersheets planner right now. Still trying to find my groove with using them all but getting closer! I will definitely be using a few of these ideas in my long term. I am compiling a list for collection I want to add of all the house plants I currently have and how to care for them. Also a list of plants I want for the house or yard. A sewing and crafts journal to include my Etsy shop info will be another one I want to start. As always, thanks for the inspiration!

I started college before the internet really took off. Email wasn't even that common yet, so I wrote a lot of letters. My freshman year I kept a journal of my experiences living on campus and what college was like. Then at the end of the school year I sent it to my best friend as a kind of "letter." It was a way of staying connected because at that time we were at pretty different points in our lives.

I bought my current planner in 2 sizes because I wasn't sure if the larger one would fit comfortably in my hands & bag. It did fit, and I actually loved the size, so I repurposed the smaller book as a type of reading journal. Instead of writing down everything I read (because I sometimes read 2 books per day and I never keep up with these) I only write down which books, authors, or series I really enjoyed and will probably read again. This way I can flip through and look for high lighted keywords about the different series I liked. If I'm looking for "the one where the guy works at the coffee shop in Colorado", I'll be able to find it even if I can't remember what the author's name was. I also keep the reading order list because authors don't often put the book order on the cover and it can be a PITA to figure out which book is 1, 2 or 3.

On the topic of project / hobby journaling: a music learning journal. You could write down the exercises and songs you currently practice, goals you want to achieve, songs you want to be able to play, setlists, and to help you remember the bits and bobs of your instrument (care and maintenance, tuning guide, transposition guide, equipment like the strings brand you prefer or microphones/amps you tested that didn't create the sound you're looking for, etc.). - Another journal I use is for improving my handwriting.

Honestly, I'm so glad that this video showed up in my recommended. I have some empty notebooks lying around that I had no idea on what to do with, but a few of these ideas sound perfect for me. I mean, I love videogames and anime, so having a journal of those things sounds fun to me. Also, I'm an artist, and I kind of had an idea notebook already: highly recommend that one to anyone in the comments. I just have it chilling on my desk in case inspirations hits and I need to write it down. I open up the notebook each week, and just review what I've jotted down so far. I actually have a set of mildliners for that purpose: I use green for awesome ideas that I will draw at some point, yellow for both maybe and 'needs to be thought out more', and red for a no go. Because sometimes, an idea definitely has potential, but it just needs to be thought out in more detail. Kind of like 'yeah, drawing a male gorgon in glasses is nice, but is he going to have slit eyes or not?' That notebook sure has been working out for me so far, because it helped me get me out of an art block that had been lasting for 2 years. It wasn't the only thing, but it sure was a factor in getting me back on track.

I play a lot of solo RPGs, so I use my spare notebooks to write out the adventure as its happening. Sometimes the adventures are just written out as bullet points, but if I have enough time, I'll write out what happened from the perspective of the character, essentially making a diary for them. Its fun to look back on and is a great way to use up my spare stickers and washi tape if I feel like decorating.

I'm thinking about a parenting type of notebook setup. Filled with development (when to expect what), stuff I want to do differently than my parents, issues I've talked through with my partner and how the child responds to what input (like baby wrap, singing makes them sleepy and stuff).

For hobbies, a sewing journal, or an ink journal of inks bought and/or what's in a particular fountain pen. For those who don't sew, a wardrobe/clothing journal. A pet journal (or did you mention that?) with vet appointment, behavior, training exercises, treats/food and so on. One of the things I'm having trouble with is figuring out what size is best for a particular kind of journal. So far, I have a List Journal in Composition size, a bucket list (but I call it possibility) journal in A5 size, a quote journal in a tiny moleskine (one quote per page), 8.5 x 11 for morning pages, bullet journals in A4 and A5 size, washi tape journal and ink journal in field note size, gratitude journal in field note size, random notes/to do on the run in field note size, travel journal in travelers notebook standard size. I'm not sure what to do with A6 size or other random notebooks in in-between sizes.

This might just be me but I upcycled one of my notebooks into a sticker album. I loved collecting stickers since when I was a high school student. So now, I decided to store those stickers in a notebook until I finally get to use them. All I had to do is to use a double-sided tape on the backing of the sticker so that it would be attached to the notebook with me having to remove it's backing.

I can see a lot , not all, of these ideas in one bullet journal. Some of them may not need more than a few pages. I would combine them. In a long term journal. Like Reading, quotes, and poems/lyrics that move you. I have a hostess journal that I started years ago. In it I keep a guest list sometimes a table plan, table decor and/or theme, full menu with recipe references, That way you avoid repeats and you remember the events. I try to take photos of table decor before people are seated, and a couple of pictures of everyone during dinner. I have found it very useful and joyful. I often will repeat menus for different guests. It brings back good memories. Also include any potlucks you may be hosting. All fun to look back at.

I sometimes feel frustrated; trying to decide what to put in a journal. A lot of your suggestions are things that I record in my regular calendar planner. Then, a lot of the things seem superfluous to me. I don't need a list to remind me to exercise. My grocery list is on a Post It note and gets thrown away after I've shopped. I don't do resolutions. I've discussed this with my daughter; who is a very creative journal planner and she says she just enjoys making lists. I remember that my Mother was a list maker. Evidently, the gene skipped me. Some of the lists just seem like people need to get on with their lives. If I charted the tv series I watched, it would be a very short list. Part of it, is my age. I'm not out to develop new habits, change behaviors, dedicate myself to good health ( I already do those things ) However, I'll keep watching the videos, and hope for some ideas that make sense to me.

Now THEY have another blank notebook they don't know what to do with! Muahahaha - throw it at your enemies. I’m surprised this was useful for anyone. I thought if someone wanted to keep track of something or need a space for something specific they would just grab a notebook and do it. But clearly this was helpful to so many, I’m boggled anyone would need to be told they can make a journal specific to anything they wanted……not sure if this sounds mean and not intentionally trying to sound rude, I’m genuinely surprised this is helpful for people

  • @JashiiCorrin

I mean, it does sound a bit rude 😅 one of the drawbacks of text-based communication I guess. But I’m glad it ~has~ been helpful for a good chunk of people 😊 people have different needs, and I know I’m the type of person who finds an ideas list helpful, even if in ~theory~ I could have figured things out myself 💜

  • @celiagallegos

You may not have the intention of sounding rude, but sometimes the words that are used in a comment can be perceived as either offensive or insulting. In response to your comment regarding the video itself, I would say it’s NOT a matter of anyone “needing to be told” they can make a journal of whatever they want - clearly that’s a given. However, for those of us with many many notebooks and different types of journals, we sometimes can’t think of any other ways to utilize any empty notebooks…which is where videos like THIS come in handy! For example, I know I personally wouldn’t have thought of ALOT of these ideas on my own! Therefore, I’m extremely grateful for these types of videos with a ton of ideas! ❤
