This panel can put out close to 100 watts kzread.infoUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle. The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts. If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.

Pretty good video. In electronic connecting it’s always best practice to connect negative last or disconnect negative first. This prevents accidental short circuiting a positive connection to framework, which is typically grounded to controllers, inverters, etc.

Good video. Glad you mentioned the fuse. I have two 100W solar panels on my boat, and if I was to remove the solar input wires, I always cover up the panel, (shade) so the wires are not live. ( double checked with a DVM)I also make the bare wires short to avoid the posibility of arcing during a load spike. (I have the same kind, love the built-in USB ports) because I don't like the bare wires being held by set screws. These connections are very close to one another and a broken strand could induce arcing or a short. Well dons.

But I wish the RV video he mentioned were available. I bought a 5000 watt Jupiter inverter for my RV. I'm wondering if I will have need for more information with that size inverter. Will I need a resistor, as one KZread tutorial insisted upon. I see I will also need a fuse.

When you want to remove need to do like this (1) +ve (2) -ve (3) E. And wants to connect need to do like this (1)E (2) -ve (3)+ve

Thank you for demonstrating how to put together a solar kit. Seriously! Some do videos 30 minutes to an hour long!!?? 😲🙄😒 May I ask, how many panels (say 100 watt) & batteries does one need? So, if I bought 4-100 watt solar panels, do I need 4 batteries? Hoping to get solar panels soon, completely been off grid for 9-10 months. Doing lots of research. Thank you for your help.

Oh, a couple questions I had that would be helpful: what's the max distance you can run between the solar panel and controller? Also, what gauge of wire do you recommend between each of the components? Thanks!

I had the same questions like you! It seems that you can run as much as you can... BUT, the catch is the longer the cable runs, the quicker you're loosing power through... so you will typically want to to have a larger gauge cable every 20 feet or so. Else anything between 20 - 30 feet at 10 gauge can be acceptable, but if you're running let says 200 feet, then either you will need 0 gauge or 2 ... and a daisy chain solar system... beyond that it is above my pay grade knowledge! 😀

If you use a thick cable. How dose it fit in to the controller?

Hi, does it matter which lug gets put on first when reconnecting the controller and inverter to the battery? Can’t tell from the video but I just want to make sure I don’t mess something up for some detail like that. Lol thank you!

Like boosting a car battery, positive on dead battery first, negative off first. The charge controller should also be connected to the battery first before the solar panel because the panel has a much higher power output. That's why in the video the panels were disconnected before connecting the inverter. So, positive first to dead side because if put on the live side first a live charge could cause a spark or fire.

When taking the positive and negative lines out from any connection, KEEP THEM SEPARATE.. Nothing better than zap and smoke and burning yourself or your equipment. It's best to have a wire cap on the end or at least tape off the end with electrical tape.
