100 Of The Worst Small Towns in The United States

Most people have had the dream of buying a home in a perfect small town. Norman Rockwell made it look so nice; people were happy, real estate was affordable, and crime was a guy who sold the town a miracle elixir that had no magic properties, and we now call it Jagermeister.
Can you imagine living in a small town that is more dangerous than Chicago and has more poverty than Gary, Indiana?
These small towns exist, and the only positive is the real estate is cheap.
In this video, we are looking at over 100 of the worst small towns in the United States.
Do you need a local Realtor for the area you want to move to?

The United States has some great small rural towns that aren't on this list. In this video we will show you small rural towns you should ask a realtor or real estate agent about. These towns might be affordable, but that is where the nice things stop.

Just want you to know I really enjoy all of your videos. I love your voice , and stop typing…as far as speaking about the negative, it’s understandable. But the reason I enjoy those because it helps me to know where I don’t want to go. My husband and I are retired,on a fixed income. He is turning 75 this year, and he has poor health. I also want you to know you are doing great, don’t lose hope, you are really good at this. The reason I love your voice is because it is so clear, up beat, and you just have the perfect sounding voice. I apologize because I don’t always leave a comment. I’ll do better. My home state is Virginia, and I miss being home. My husband doesn’t want to move back to the east coast because of the humidity. I’m not crazy about that either but it’s worth it if I could go home. I didn’t tell you how old I am…but I am 67. Thanks for all the information. Stay safe, and remember to be kind. Kindness matters👍

Well, I live in Caldwell so I'm familiar with Star, Middleton, Greenleaf, Homedale, Hidden Springs. It's frustrating because you aren't showing pictures of those actual towns as you talk about them. Also, because a lot of these little towns are pretty close to Caldwell, Nampa and Boise, many people work in those larger towns. Marsing is really a very nice little town, lots of wineries and the Snake River goes right through there. Not sure how old this video is, but Star and Middleton are really growing and have a lot of Californians who have moved there. Bright side is, maybe with this video, less people will want to move here.

I know in New York state they do NOT count the prisoners for the population of the town, but they do include all the crimes that happen in prison. So relatively safe towns that have a prison or two look like they have very high rates of violent crime when 90% occur inside the prisons.

Actually they do the little town I have my Summer home in was noted with distinction as having the most diverse community in the North Country. If you do not include the residents of the State Correctional Facility, it isn't.

@@giantgeoff Yes and no. According to a 2010 New York State law prisoners are counted as living in their last known home addresses. But, according to the national census they are still listed where they are incarcerated. So we're both correct.

It's a long video, but I'll get through it just to see rather or not my original hometown/birth place made it onto this list. If it did no surprise. If it doesn't, honestly no surprise. We got an HGTV show for a while and a movie with Matthew McConaughey so there's that I guess Good job Laurel, MS. You're didn't even make the list.

You should disable the "mirror" setting on your camera. This way people can see you as if you were standing in front of them.

Rewatching the video. Re: Ruth, California. No images! As you said. Jumped onto Bing, to see if that changed after your video came out. You know, someone acting as the Chamber of Commerce things a few pictures are in order and snaps a few on their lunch break. Nope. Or if they did, they haven’t figured out how to upload them. Beautiful pictures of Ruth Lake, a couple of buildings at Ruth Mine but nothing in the town of Ruth. Who posted the pictures of the lake and the mine? The Encyclopedia of Forlorn Places. Didn’t know there was such a thing. Might check out what they mine(d?) there. Not sure it would be worth the gas. It looks awfully dry for Northern California. Looking at some land near the Oregon line but not sure if I want to consider it. I always picture NAPA Valley as representative of NoCal. Then my nephew grew up there and I saw him for the first time in 20some years. Dumber than a sled with a split runner! He waxed, philosophically about Race Relations with the Native Americans and how good they had it. I spent several minutes chewing the inside of my cheek and didn’t say anything. I could not think of one thing I could say that did not agree but kept family relations healthy. I swear I didn’t say a word, but his mommy said ‘you haven’t changed a bit’!’ A statement about as astute as her favorite child’s lecture. After she broke the ice, I had a free pass to move to another table and lose their phone number. What a mess! I will browse through the Forlorn Encyclopedia but I am currently enjoying your humor. It can wait. Thanks, Briggs for another great video. Half a mil to live in toxic waste? No thank you!!! What happens with the cows there? Are they selling the milk or the meat? Hopefully, since they have to be there, they are well tended pets. Fingers crossed!!!

Why not do a show on larger towns? Like towns of 3,000 to 6,000. They should have all modcons available and a Palmyra store for shopping. In these little towns, more villages, you only show gaa stations and highways. I'd like to see more houses and schools up close.

It's like the career of "worst opera singer" ever, Florence Foster Jenkins. She couldn't carry a note in a handbasket...but she sold out Carnegie Hall! Every cent went to support the troops during World War II. If you want to cut down on caffeinated coffee, listening to one of her recordings will leave you with the same tingling.

I lived in Byhalia Mississippi for 5 years. I moved there in the middle of my seventh grade year. The school system was so far behind. I felt like they were on a 5th grade level compared to the school that I came from in Northwest Tennessee. I lived in this place till I was 18. I can. Tell you from a first and experience that the school system is complete trash there were a few good teachers when I was there, Bless their hearts. They couldn't teach though because they were trying to keep all the p.o.c. kids from fighting each other. My parents finally removed me from the school when I was in 10th grade. I was ruthlessly picked on by most of the students and it didn't matter the race and it was because I was disabled and I wasn't gonna put up with their bs. Got my second job in that toand the people as far as the adults in that town were trash as well because of how they treated everybody. I can honestly say looking back. I know, maybe 3 good people from that town and they all left.
