Once again, it's a nice install. I wish you lived close to me. I need to have an interlock kit installed along with an input connection for my generator. I've contacted 3 electricians and only one replied. He said he was covered up, and that was in January. I contacted him a few days ago, left a voice mail, and haven't heard back. I'm in the Tupelo area if you know anyone here. Nice channel.

I went out on my own after getting my journeyman's license ( and administrators) and became a self employed contractor such as yourself. I recently got into panel change outs so this has been great to watch. I've been doing pretty much homeline panel's as replacements. You've got a lot more experience than me, and was wondering, if you recommend any better panels out there? Thanks!

Another fantastic vid, Ron HELP! I'm replacing an old Federal Pacific 100-amp panel with a 200-amp Square D Hameline panel, so I will need to upgrade the service entrance cable and want to use 2/0 THHN copper. The outdoor meter can/box is mounted low, (30" off the ground at bottom edge of can) outside, so if I use the bottom rear 2-inch knockout of the meter can, it will put the hole through the wall below the bottom edge of the new breaker panel by about 8 inches, so I will have to make a vertical 90 upwards turn from hole in wall to bottom knockout of the new panel. I cannot find a 2" close 90 PVC electrical fitting so I'm guessing they don't make one. My question is: how do I make that vertical 90 turn upwards? It will eventually be covered in drywall. Do I need to have the inside copper leads in conduit at all? If I use switch to 4/0 aluminum, do I need conduit inside the wall cavity? thanks in advance!

Great work Ron. I am looking to upgrade my home main panel, possibly to a 200 or 225 amps panel, and was wondering about the quality differences of Square D vs. Eaton vs. Cutler Hammer, specifically regarding the aluminum vs. copper busbar options. What is your take on that? Is a copper busbar a better choice longevity wise? Should I prefer the QO (copper) over the Homeline (aluminum) Square D series? Are the Eaton or Cutler Hammer copper busbar options better than the Square D panels, quality and longevity wise?

Ron ,Im an Electrician up in Morris county . Exact same problem with all 200 amp Square D homeline value packs. Did a 150 no problem Qos no problem just the 200 Homeline value pack from Depot. Got to end of 12 hour change and almost thought i wouldnt even be able to get cover on. Next one i i fitted cover as soon as i took out of box to avoid surprise at end. As soon as i saw your other video where you had to clamp it i knew it was an ongoing issue. Sad because Square D was once the Cadillac. Might also be a Depot thing too. Im dreading going back into the 200 amp one because the cover was such a nightmare. This is a first for me in many years of work and is definitely a quality controll issue. I have reached out to Schneider electric but nothing really helps when you need to get power on after being off all day and the brand new panel install has a cover that dont fit . Extremely frustrating and just another thing to have to worry about when doing a job. Trusted equipment brands starting to lose reliability. In any event there a goner for me too

Do you take work in Old Bridge NJ? Is it takes long time to get permit?

The DCA allows building departments 20 days to approve a permit application. And yes I do work in Old Bridge.

What's the ballpark price of getting this service upgrade, new panel, and whole house surge protector? Can this be done for under 2 grand?

@@electricalron no, that's why I'm asking.. I'm in Kearny NJ. I got quoted at 2.5k for upgrade from 100 to 200amp service, new panel, whole house surge protector, and power back alarm. I admire and respect your work and wanted to see if I'm getting anywhere near the ballpark of craftsmanship for the money. I understand every house is different. But I'm curious about your ballpark price.. is 2.5 suspiciously low? Should I expect to pay 6? 7k? I think it's a fair question to ask for a ballpark..

The utility approved the existing conductors. They were 4/0 aluminum and 200 amp meter.

Why wouldn’t the homeowner do the upgrade a few years ago when putting in a new panel? Seems like a marginal cost to put in a 200 amp panel even if you only need 100 amp service. Do it once.

Like I explained in the video, that home run went into the top of the old panel (from the side) and for the new panel it was in the way. By adding the junction box I was able to extend the home run and enter the panel from the bottom.
