    On the first watch I didn’t hear a thing. The grain, focal lengths, color grading, anamorphic shots, cuts and the curved scopes! Gem of a cinematographer/editor. Last time it was the aspect ratio that got me. The anamorphic shot at 10:46 - was never needed but here for those who will smile and nudge to people sitting beside “thats shot on anamorphic glass btw”. The last talking scene on a pelican case - those angles, composition and lens choices!❤️ I think modern video productions have gone too perfect - sharp visuals and bassy tracks. This was very fun to watch!

    Correction on the battery discussion. Tesla does *not* have an adaptive range display on the main UI. The range number that displays in the main UI is based on two factors, which you can confirm yourself with an OBD2 dongle and something like ScanMyTesla: 1. A static, constant rated efficiency value, which is based on your vehicle's spec/configuration (let's say 238 Wh/m - this is basically the city/highway combo rating which is why you never get the advertised range on the highway unless you do like 55 MPH). I don't know what the AWD LR rated efficiency number is, but ScanMyTesla should report that value if you do a scan (along with the BMS's estimated capacity, it's really a great tool to use if you want to see more info about your car) 2. The BMS's current estimated pack capacity at the current SoC. So, for example, if your reported SoC is 90% and the BMS thinks that there's 60 kWh of energy at this SoC, the UI will show an estimated range number of 252 miles. Now, the BMS is only ever really estimating the capacity of the pack remaining. On a new pack, it should be pretty close to the real value, but over time, the BMS can drift further away from the real capacity. This is why using the range number displayed in the main UI as a degredation-o-meter is not super reliable (it's somewhat reliable though). When you want to measure degredation, you want to get a real reading of how much energy your pack is actually able to store. There's not a ton of super, 100% accurate ways of doing this, certainly few for the average person, but one way that's pretty solid is to simply drive the car to a very low SoC, down to the point where power is super limited and you're starting to feel like you may not make it back to a charger - that's where you want to be. As close to the bottom as possible (Tesla will let you get pretty much all the way to the bottom, others may not so YMMV). Then, you want to plug in the car and charge to 100%. This is not something you want to do often btw. Anyways, once that's done, the car should tell you how much energy was added (this should in theory be post-heat loss, so will likely be less than if you were to measure from the wall outlet for example). To determine real degredation at this point is simply a matter of looking at how much energy was reportedly put in vs. how much the pack capacity was when new (usable pack capacity anyways). This should be ~72kWh for older LR Model 3's and ~76kWh for newer cars, like 2021+, both of these numbers are based on crowdsourced data since Tesla does not say how big these packs are since there's probably some considerable variation from car to car when new even. So if you charged from 0-100 and the car reports you added 67 kWh into the pack, that means a degredation of ~7% for an older car with the smaller pack, or ~12% for a newer car with the bigger pack. Now, that being said, you can get an estimated range value based on current conditions - when you navigate to a destination, the car will estimate the SoC it expects you to arrive with. If it's a longer trip on a highway for example, or if it's very cold out, it will report an arrival % that would be much lower than you might expect if you actually do the math, but that's because Tesla's navigation is extremely sophisticated when it comes to trying to figure out how far you can really go. Elevation, temperature, traffic conditions, and now wind direction and force are all factors that will play into how far you can really go (the static value displayed in the main UI is largely useless and just there to give you an estimate on how far you can go under the most optimal conditions with the most optimal route).

    Appreciate this very detailed comment! I’m not saying at all that degradation isn’t present on my car - 3 years in and at 100k miles, I’m sure it is… I’m more so trying to disband this belief that the displayed mileage that’s on that reading is in any way indicative of “degradation…” that number goes up and down CONSTANTLY. There’s hardly a day goes by that the number doesn’t go up or down by a mile on that 90% charge. That was one of the very first conversations I ever had with a Tesla engineer - “why the hell is is fluctuating so much?” His answer, as well as quite a few others at Tesla was basically that the displayed mileage was not to be viewed as degradation, but instead as a fluctuating assessment of possible mileage based on driving habits and conditions. This might still be a little off from your assessment, but to your point - Tesla needs to be way more clear with these things, that number is rather arbitrary. 😅

  • @pepstein

    @pepstein

    Жыл бұрын

    @@BrandonHavard totally agree it's not a great measure of degradation. Driving and charging habits may affect it, but it's trying to estimate available range assuming you drive EPA city/highway combined test cycle, NOT the way you actually drive.

    @@loganrossignol so true. And that’s not to say they’re incompetent. They’re good at the work they do. You can tell the Tesla battery gauge is not a guess-O-meter when you take road trips. Switching from mostly city and high traffic slow highway to mostly high speed low traffic highway would lower range, but it doesn’t. Or you can just read the effing manual. It’s spelled out quite clearly there and on the Tesla website.

    3:40. Minor correction (which doesn't bring down how great a production this video is overall): Displayed range is the estimated range the onboard computer calculates based on the battery calibration (average battery module voltage) and the manufacturer baseline efficiency (what Tesla considers to be average conditions). The displayed range fluctuates only due to battery calibration and has nothing to do with your driving style. Therefore its changes overtime as you mentioned a few seconds later by and large show the "degradation" if the battery is properly calibrated.

    I loveeeee my model 3. It’s a 2020 with 70 thousand miles on it. Only issue it has is a leaky trunk due to an accident it was in but not repaired correctly. But honestly I don’t rlly care about that because it doesn’t affect the car in any way and it’s just a little bit of water. This is the best car I’ve owned period. And even though it’s th older model 3 before the refresh, I still am in love with it. I plan on getting a model Y this year and seeing how that goes. But I surely will miss my model 3. If you’re on the fence about a Tesla, don’t be. Get one!!

Earn great fares and it's cheap to charge, even during peak hours at the SC. I'm impressed! Theyre reliable too and low maintenance. Don't understand why so many people hate Tesla and EVs lol

    As a 22 year old. Watching this video was very informative and enjoyable, thanks for taking your time to be truthful and thorough in your summary and testimony of ownership for 3 years along with the lovely edits. I consider buying one in the next 4 years and hopefully by then any needed changes and upgrades lest alone kinks and quirks will be resolved. I am concerned though that if anything went wrong with the vehicle out of warranty, the costly expenses might put a damper on my enjoyment of the ride as a whole sizing up if it’s truly worth keeping for many years to come.

    It's one of those vehicles that can last you a long long time compared to standard ICE, because less parts=lower maintenance. The trade off to that being sometimes parts and labor can seem more expensive, but that cost is mainly because maintained correctly you can have very very low mechanical failures, which means you need high production to meet the demand of repair shops. with the latest EU Regulations, batteries in Teslas and other EVS may soon require to be removable, and by the time you're looking at getting one the cost will eventually go down in terms of producing the battery, the question then will be if they will lower costs. In terms of charging on road trips etc, Tesla is the best hands down, especially since the upcoming Semi Truck charging infrastructure will be compatible on the cyber-truck, meaning 20-80 percent charging in near future) on the high end. Ultimately we'll see if 2023 is the Cyber-truck release, fingers crossed.

    I want it to do Uber in and don't want to buy a new one but a cheaper option with a few issues as long as they aren't safety or performance related I could live with. Because you are right it is an awesome car

    My 3 three is 7 mo. Old and i have 15k miles. I agree with you. I have had a couple of problems. Horn was hard to push, they came out to my house and fixed it. Had a flat and had to replace a tire. Other than that mine is still perfect. Would love to know what ypu sell yours for. Great cars am excited to drive it every day. .08$ a kilowatt hour here in Toledo. So fuel costs are about 1/5 price of gasoline. Depending on current cost gas of course.
