I didn't mind the new art style of American Dragon, but I hated Jake's new dragon form. I get that they were trying to go for a blend of Chinese/European dragon, but it didn't work. I think it could've been possible had they tried harder.

suckypuckle Steven universe is meh at best to me personally, and for the Ben 10 look I personally like it. I’ve always found the sharp edges to suit better with the faster pace of omniverse. Anyways the show gets really good post the first season!

Dynamic Power There are two theories (I'm going to butcher them since it's been a while): 1) Ash's mom sewed a stone that prevents Pokémon from evolving into Ash's vest. 2) Ash sees a legendary bird Pokémon at the end of Episode 1; he made a wish that he would always be able to capture and train Pokémon

CMD Parodies when it's family guy it's meh, but shove SD into that mold then it's garbage. I for one can understand redesigns when people want to try something new and some work but holy heck this does not o_O Mystery Inc., the one where they were actually HS students(or I got confused at points if it wasn't college...) worked for me. My only wish is they should've put some comedy in there after the first few episodes. That was the one thing it was lacking, comedic relief that other SD series has and BC has too much of it >_< we just can't get a freaking balance now....

I liked Loonatics Unleashed... You forgot Code Lyoko, and how the virtual Yumi changed the way she looked in later seasons from a geisha to...well...basically like the other Lyoko Warriors, and then when CL Evolution came along... Live action characters and yet another drastic change of the Lyoko Warriors (no more huge foreheads?) were the new norm.

I dunno, I always kind of liked that Jake, being half-Chinese, would look like a chinese dragon rather than a European one. I mean, he did inherit his dragon powers from his mother's side not his father's so it makes more sense. I know it was a tough change for a lot of people to adjust to but I kind of prefer it and think it's a shame that they didn't think of trying something based on chinese dragons in the first season.

I think he's talking about the redesigns for remakes all being dumbed down. Just look at all of the recent remade series, teen titans go, powerpuff girls go, ben 10 go, scooby doo go. All of them look like watered down cartoony versions of their original sources

i flat out agree on Teen Titans character redesign being awful but also the story itself being awful. I remember the "original" Teen Titans being somewhat dark and edgy, like most teens, but Teen Titans Go is truly made for kids because its more unbearable to watch then "Annoying Orange"

That was the main thing that drew me so much to the first cartoon, complex plot and characters. They also had character growth, several great story arcs that weren't solved in a single episode, sometimes funny and sometimes dark. It was a good quality show. This teen titans go crap just makes me sad.

First Ben 10, then Teen Titans and now Powerpuff Girls! Why have smart clever preschool shows only to have the so called kid shows go back into fart jokes, selective bashing of certain characters and stupidity?! Cartoons can be smart instead of being stupid!

Honestly, Loonatics Unleashed shouldn't have been on the list, simply for a reason you mentioned: the characters aren't, and weren't meant to be, the same characters as their ANCESTORS. Like saying Batman Beyond was a horrible redesign, because it's a sequel starring a new Batman.

I like how the thumbnail uses a still shot while the other side is a moving side. 🗿🗿🗿

I just ended up on this video randomly, so take this with a grain of salt, but I see a common characteristic that all the CN redesigns on this video seem to share: they look simpler (=cheaper to animate) than the designs they are replacing.

Actually, no, Ash was not based loosely on Red. He was actually based on the creator of Pokemon himself, hence why his Japanese name is Satoshi.

Whenever a female protagonist replaces the original male protagonist it rarely turns out well. I enjoy the new art style from the Sun and Moon anime, but I think a more anime-like anime would be better. Something like Pokemon Origins where it more closely resembled the manga and games and looked like a proper anime. Just an idea but, they could have it so it switches protagonists every season/region. So the first season could be about Red's adventures in Kanto and the second season can be about Ethan's (?) adventures in Johto and so on.

Well, Jake's dragon form in season 2 more resembled an Oriental dragon, so that may have been what they were going for there. As far as Ash is concerned, it's not really an Americanized look. There are actually many anime with that particular art style. I'm actually more inclined to refer to it more as a Miyazaki look.

If anything, an "Americanized" look would look more "cartoon-ish" as they would say. Like, sharper face lines, the animation wouldn't be that fluid and naturalistic, etc. Studio Ghibli-ized would be the best adjective to describe the Sun and Moon Ash.

I didn't really like Jake's Season 2 dragon form and his face looked squished in human form, but I got used to it over time. I love the animation in both seasons and some redesigns were pretty cool in season 2 like the oracle twins.

It is much better when characters change every 2 years then just boosting them up instantly

I actually like Loonatics Unleashed. It was an experimental spin-off, not a replacement for the original. It was really it's own thing.

You forgot Thomas the Tank Engine (& Friends). Here are the facts: 1. From Season 1 to 11, they used the classic model ones to film. 2. From Season 12, they started using CGI for the faces so the character can show more emotions. 3. Finally, the Hit Entertainment stared using CGI for the whole scenes at the beginning of Season 13, which makes us feel like we're watching some crappy reboot. CGI ruined everything. >:(

I'd contribute that more to just plain bad CGI. Good CGI done right would look identical to the original physical models just with smoother animation and more expressions thanks to just how advance our rendering software is. Something the original team was going for with what little they had to work with traditionally. That aside so long as it appeals to the little kids it's fine. The show is intended to be aimed at young children around 1 to 6 years old. So that one's debatable.

I still remember the older ones, the ones I still have on VHS that were enjoyable even as an adult. This new style ONLY appeals to a really young demographic, and that;s a problem. A good kids show (especially for young kids) should be something that the adults present can either enjoy as well, or least be able to tolerate. At least imo, based on the greats I have seen and remember (ie Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, the original Blues Clues, Seaseme Street, Thomas pre-2004 ect) And sadly a LOT of newer preschool shows are so godawful and cringe that anyone over the age of 6 will want rather want to have sexual relations with the bussiness end of a spear. And Thomas is dangerously close to that point.

When I saw Be Cool Scooby Doo for the first time on TV, I thought it was some skit made by Seth MacFarlane

Two things I learned from this video. Adding eyeballs is the worst design choice, and companies would rather cancel their IP instead of listening to feedback and fixing the issues
