When I was younger I didn't really like the American Dragon redesign, but when I was older I learned to appreciate because Jake actually looks more like a Chinese dragon instead of a European Dragon. Am I the only one who thought this?

Americanized box art standards from the 90's made no sense. Characters like Mario and Sonic looks mostly the same with a few changes, but characters like Kirby are made "edgy" and "hardcore" while Mega Man, just, why. They even changed it over the years to make Mega Man look more like the actual Mega Man design.

I ship Pan Pizza and Zone-Tan now.

Honestly, I wish they stopped Ben 10 after the first series. I mean, it was a pretty entertaining series primarily because it was a kid as the main protagonist. Also he could only use 10 aliens. Now when they started adding other aliens in, I was confused but saw that they looked pretty good, so I'm like (I guess this could still be good), then when they made Ben 10 Alien Force, it just completely killed my liking for the show because it was a kid protagonist now teenager protagonist. You won't notice it but many shows don't have kid protagonists (except now the companies are starting to come out of that dark depression) and that's what I like because at first I was a kid at a time, but know I can relate to the character as a kid. I'm honestly also not that interested in teen protagonists because all they emphasize is "teen years suck". I really don't like being reminded of the worst points in my life.

that still is a wrong reason, the dragon forms are based on the common depiction of dragons in their country of birth, that is why the grandpa was a traditionally Chinese dragon and Jake was a western dragon, since the mothers family came to America before jake was born, he was the official first AMERICAN dragon, did you even read/listen to the title of the show, it's literally drummed in with the opening theme, ending nearly every verse with "he's the American dragon". atleast the Dutch version swapped half of the repeats out for "hij zal America redden" which translates to "he'll save America", since the Dutch sentence rhymes to "the American dragon" (which was the only part kept English to reference the title) to break up the dull repeats

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks Omniverse was an improvement for Ben 10. I mean, my God, Ben is pretty much untouchable in both AF and UA. If anything happens to him, its in one of his alien forms, and thus, we almost never see the damage that it does to his normal, human body. I remember in Omniverse, when they were fighting that super virus alien (can't remember the name) and Ben got absorved in it for more than a few minutes. That actually affected his human body, rendering him unconscious for long enough for the others to actually worry about, and scan him to check if everything was fine. I remember thinking "omg, Ben can actually get harmed, he's not the invincible idiot he used to be. This actually adds danger to the mix". Too bad the reboot came after Omniverse...

I like Omniverse, but the biggest issue i got with it is the huge retcon they did with Kevin and his backstory. You cant really throw away all the osmosian stuff after alien force and ultimate alien addressing it multiple times.

Teen Titans Go! is at the top of my list. What did they do to you, Raven? Robin? Cyborg? Starfire? Beast Boy? RAAAAAVVVVEEEEEN!!!!!!!!!!!! I swear to Cthulhu, the people that work on this show are convicts and Wendy's employees on lunch break. Raven isn't as brooding and awesome as she used to be, Robin's a complete jerk, Cyborg is a douchebag, Starfire now has a mental disability, and Beast Boy is just a little off...

As a visual design, its off, but it could have worked if it were the lighthearted superhero action comedy, and not... Whatever that was. I woulda preferred more Titans episodes proper, but they coulda dug so far into the century worth of silliness to be had in DC comics.

I’m sorry for being late, but I agree. The new art took some getting used to, but I got over it by getting over myself and adapting to different things. I love it, it’s so colorful and expressive. I don’t even understand everyone’s hate for green being “overused” here. UAF was so generic looking and stiff. None of the characters had real expressive looks. What’s more, the nighttime colors were more overused than green was.

Thank you!! Most of the UAF series was basically set in night time and I would have just let the bland character designs go if it didn't make me basically incapable of watching the show during the day if I wanted to see anything at all. Omniverse is so vibrant and bright and full of personality in comparison. I can live with people not liking it, I guess, but I'll never understand anyone who thinks badly of the artstyle. And, I mean, green is Ben's signature color, I don't know what people are going on about calling it overused.

Walt Disney was kinda friendly with the Nazi's before WW2 and he was kinda antisemetic (he didn't like jews, which was actually really common at the time) but he sided with the allies 100% after WW2 was started and made tons of propoganda for the allies. He also dialed back the racism a bit in later years. Disney company as a whole hasn't been racist since the 50's though.

Rape is sex with somebody who isn't consenting or under the age of consent...If you're going to rape somebody, what would the age of them matter to you? You're already breaking the law and going to jail, so fuck whatever age victim you want. In fact, that would mean that there is less rape considering the age of consent is so low. Having sex with somebody below the age of consent would be rape regardless of whether they agreed to it or not. Since the age is lower, the amount of 'rape' would theoretically be lower overall since it was more likely to be within the age range.

Oranginality Screw the show, I'm only liking Sonic Boom so far for the games. Idk, I kind of like Sonic's new look, it's as if he's getting older and older with every design, from classic to modern to Boom. I honestly don't care about Knuckles being buff. It makes him look strong, like he's supposed to be. Tails and Amy really don't look that different at all to me.

As much as I like seeing familiar faces from time to time, having a cutesie design for Soul Eater is just plain wrong. And to ruin the ending for you, the villain is a "witch", whom is the younger sister of Medusa and Arachne. I actually like the broadcast SU designs a lot more. It's simpler for animation and very pleasing to the eye. I'm especially a fan of the colorful, geometric backgrounds and their palettes.

Gurren Lagann isn't even close to the "greatest anime ever." I honestly couldn't even get through the first episode. Mecha has to be one of the worst, overused genres ever. Seriously, I tried watching it too, and the first two episodes were really boring. Some cool ideas and character designs but overall very bland execution, nothing really interesting ever happened. "Oh its a giant robot that wants to smash things for no reason whatsoever. Oh look another giant robot. Oh noo this one wants to smash stuff too!" Like what even is the point?

While not a bad re-design, is anyone else saddened that we can't have more Pokemon animations like The Origin or that fucking awesome Black2/White2 promo? Instead, the anime series that's always been around remains the sole focus, appealing to an even younger audience than the already young target audience of the games (though at least XY is a marked improvement from Best Wishes), and still using techniques from 20 years ago (seriously, what other anime nowadays has wooshing sound effects accompany a character model sliding into view?).

I tend to prefer the art style in Ben 10 Alien Force and Ultimate Alien. Why? Because they had the character grow up. He was maturing and it reflected in the art style. Then Omniforce happened and it was so flat, so bland, and a regression of the character. Almost as if Ben never grew up when he was supposed to. The same goes for Gwen and Kevin. What the fuck are they wearing!?

Well, the problem is, they made the whle show totally broing by "maturing" it. It didnt have any jokes, the plots where lame, every location looked the same and the characters all looked to bland.

Oh it had jokes. It had plenty of jokes. The thing was that they aged the show with their audience. The jokes became more mature as did the viewer. Though that means that she jokes will go over the head of other people looking at it like a kids show. This show had so many wonderful fourth wall breaks. Including an entire episode reference The X files to the point that Kevin even notices the similarities between what was happening and the X Files show. Thats brilliant writing right there.

Ben 10 went to shit honestly. I liked everything (except the live action movies) up until Omniverse. You call that good art design? No more pupils in the eyes, Ben looks like a goblin, Kevin looks like a troll and Max caught Brock from Pokemon's condition where he cant open his eyes. How can you tell me that looks good? Whats wrong with anime-esque style? They at least looked human. The aliens looked cool, had great designs as well. Omniverse fucked all that up. Also, how dare you hate on Toonami. Steve Blums voice as Tom was amazing. Ok yea, Tom 4 looked awful. But Toonami introduced anime to a generation of kids who had never seen it before. Were those anime the best? No, but dubbing companies had a lot of restrictions. 4Kids didnt help any either. I thought it was cool then and now its better than ever, with Tom 3's design back and all the anime is uncut. Just wish they could get the schedule right. Seriously, Samurai Jack on at 5:30am? Beware the Batman at 2:30? Switch those, put Black Lagoon back in its 2:30 time slot and I'll be happy

I agree that Ben 10 shouldn't have changed it's animation style, I liked the way it was. Like what is wrong with Anime-esque style? looked good, though I gotta say, toonami needs to remove that batman show all together...And Black Lagoon needs to be sooner in the line up... Also as for Steven Universe, which you showed in the beginning of the video, it had the same general style of animation, the characters just look older and have different style, pretty much the same though, also the room looks darker, that's sorta not a good example...

I found this less like some shrinking down and more of him becoming stronger and going more towards an actual dragon then the bulky one.

RebelTaxi Meh, I would still give credence to a lot of awesome cartoons produced in the 90's, they had a lot of stylistic character. I'm referring more to what I've seen over the past few years with animators' reliance on Flash, a lot of the cartoon characters just seem to be animated 'templates' with very boxy poses and facial expressions. :/ Basically, cutting down on the 'artistry' to produce more is rather annoying!

Ve Nus Flash is a tool, not a quality standard. Lots of shows made great use of Flash. Motorcity, Fosters, Ruby Gloom, The Black Dynamite's pilot, El Tigre. Motorcity one the best looking shows I've ever seen animated in TV and it's Flash.

I like how we can see how their previous forms looked when they regenerate (i.e. Pearl in 'Steven The Sword Fighter.') It's only a series of silhouettes, but it gives a general idea of how they looked in every other regeneration. In one of her previous forms, Pearl has the 'lesbian' haircut, which is a nod to the pilot. Regardless of the haircut's connotations, I think it looks/looked great on Pearl, but that's just me. It is basically stated in the show that all Gems are female and that Gems have romantic relationships with one another, therefore making them... Lesbians? I don't know for sure, since Gems are genderless by Rebecca Sugar's definition, but they all use female pronouns. In any case, love is love and that's all I have to say about that. Won't get too bogged down in all the mess of opinions + KZread comments sections.

For me it's more i'd like it if they tried splicing the styles if they ever tried to redo the show from scratch akin to what's done a lot with anime if a manga finished and all it had as a show prior was filler that went its own way. . Because I like aspects of the pilot, but hate aspects as well...The background is far more clustered and genric looking for example, and certain designs (Pearl) are horrifying (though at least a more reigned in design like her pilot one would be less prone to inconsistency like her design was for a majority of season 1's first half and most any episode by paul or raven at this point). . That being said, when you get down to it the designs for the characters themselves are what was changed the least. They just omitted finer details and made things simpler looking, making the show into a kind of 80s miyazaki mixed with revolutionary girl utena with a nes/snes game era filter over it all to make it deceptively childish despite being super dark thus giving it a kind of Mother feel.

I personally liked Dexter’s redesign over the original. It harkens back to UPA and 1950s mid-mod cartoons and I like that aesthetic Also, Jake Long would’ve looked better with varying outlines like in the first season

Altoryu Honestly, what were they thinking? The show might have lasted longer too if they kept it the same way. I honestly feel like it was budget cuts that everything got LESS detailed and thinner. That is depressing that I have to assume that is what happened. And, I wish that was the reason. It had a great style that I loved and then some idiot thought it would be a smart move to change an animation style after everything was already conceived.

It had a different kind of humor from the old school that was enjoyable to me and badass(my opinion at the time) designs and action sequences that you wouldnt expect or even see from the old school loonytoons. I can understand that with the lunatics design that it limits what they are capable of as toons(in terms of manipulating their bodies, environment, each other, etc.), but why do people hate it so much? they aren't loonytoons they're Loonatics.

I hope to shit that Pan is a better person since this video. That bit about Japan still creeps me out about Pan. No joke because it is not funny.

I really do have to appreciate how Ben 10 Omniverse still tried to stay faithful to the previous incarnations and, while flawed, had a lot of new things to bring to the table that ultimately made it a fun and worthwhile viewing experience. That, and they finally got rid of tight pants Ben from Alien Force and Ultimate Alien. Thank GOD.

The Transformers honorable mention is a double edged sword, there are some good redesigns like Prime and then there a crap ones like Optimus in Energon.

NickonAquaMagna There's nothing wrong with CGI cartoons. However the transition from the traditional hand drawn to CGI has to be done right like from Transformers G1 to Beast Wars, and not sloppily as in oher examples too numerous to mention.

Well I know what I'm watching this July 3rd. Oh man these Remakes, Reboots and Redesigns Oh My!!! I liked the old show designs on Cartoon Network a lot better and Nickelodeons Klasky CSUPO period was really twisted to look at times. Other things I hate about remakes, reboots and redesigns are the new voices (Xiaolin Chronicles) the new art style and the focus on comedy instead of character development (Teen Titans Go) and lastly the money (Dexter's Lab, Ben Ten Omniverse, All Grown Up, and most of the new superhero show ect)

I do like some of the new redesigns, but there are also some that just push me away badly. I like the TTG, American Dragon Jake Long, and Xiaolin Chronicles remakes and other twists, but thats just me!!!

Jason Prince I'll be honest, the Jake Long redesign I thought was fairly good except for Jake's dragon form. They didn't just make it look different, they changed the species entirely and expected us to just accept the fact that he's a serpent dragon now.

I like most redesigns but some of them are just too drastic of a change and we are just suppose to accept it. It's like getting a new computer when your old one, the one you've been use to for years, breaks down and you have to adapt to the sudden change. Either it could be good or just more complicated.

True Redcord, the redesigns have to make sense and be applicable. The redesigns also have to also be appealing to the eye and compliment the story to boot. What are some of the redesigns/reboots you guys actually like?

I remember when this video was NEW. Holy moly.

I liked Ben10 omniverse because it had a good balence of comedy and action it also had a bit of positive roles

the should've stuck with the designs from alien force and ultimate alien it was perfect and the show handled both comedy and seriousness better than omniverse, the art style alone made the show less serious not to mention the only reason they changed the style was because its cheaper and let them be less detailed on the designs meaning they can get episodes out fester

Press_Start2continue well let me tell you somethinig, I'm not watching the Ben10 reboot, it will change our childhoods and ruin it, so I say LWT THE NEW GENERATION of kids hve it, even though the best cartoons lasted a decade ;( , sign i remember generator rex, sonic x etc.

I honestly think ALL the designs from "the batman" were flipping amazing and really reflected their character really well.

For a youngster you have sublime taste in anime. Pokemon however...subpar.

I actually wanna find that cancelled USA Sailor Moon remake.

at 6:25 I was like "WTF Zone-tan what are YOU doing here?!?"

It's not bad (though I like the original designs a tad more). The problem was, like Pan said, the show was two seasons in and the change felt too drastic at that point. It wasn't even a new series like Ben 10 Omniverse.

+Diego Sparks I liked it as a change from a European dragon to a Asian dragon but I can see how some people may not have liked that look.
