I love to have a new one with 4+4 or dually with extra long bed with mega cab and the old Cummins mated to a better transmission but still in a manual and a great dash at don't shadder in a month after ownership and last a long time like a Volvo or Isuzu and then mount that soft cover dash to it in a cowboy 🤠 style leather in light brown or dark brown or black and if gas a trx super charged or twin turbo viper motor

@TerrySmith-fc9mj The Viper V10 and the V10 Magnum used in the Ram 2500’s are 2 different motors. And they didn’t use a Cummins because the Cummins is slow. They tow great, but they’re slow. And more expensive.

I loved Walker Texas Ranger when I was younger. Don't forget that his partner, Trivette, had some cool rides as well. He had a red 93 Pontiac Firebird, a silver 94 Dodge Stelth R/T Turbo, and two black Ford Mustang GT convertibles(one from 96 and one from 99).

Had a '99 Ram for years(still do-- drove it to work today actually). It's no joke that those 318s can take a beating. This thing has been abused so much over the years and still keeps going. Been trying to make sure it'll stay on the road as long as it can. I didn't realize it's looking a little Walker Texas Ranger-ish. I got a wrap around grill from the smaller Dakota and cut off the headlight guards to turn it into a bull bar, and threw on side runners too. Only the truck is a dark green and the added parts are black(no lights or bar in the bed though). Dodge knew what they were doing with the appearance of these things. People to this day tell me it's a damn nice looking truck. Keep up the awesome work on these videos, I discovered this channel a few months ago and was instantly hooked.

Went through two transmissions and had to replace all the ball joints four times in those nearly 14 years, but never had any engine issues at all and I was quite rough on it too😉

Best looking truck out of the era, it literally made me want a truck, couldn’t say that from prior years, and before the redesign I had no reason to even consider Dodge aside from pricing. I owned several different second generation Rams with different engines, my favorite was the V10 with the 5 speed manual, nothing but torque and raw power for its time. Even though I own arguably a more powerful, and arguably better made modern truck, I still don’t get as excited as I did the day I bought the 2nd Gen Ram I really wanted, garnet exterior, tan leather interior, V10, dually fully loaded with wood grain, keyless entry, and a lot more. I definitely want a 96 Indy 500 pace truck one day as my last one, nobody has came out with anything that looks better, even Dodge couldn’t top it in later model years and they tried hard. Walker Texas Ranger and the movie Twister fueled my passion for the truck growing up, even Steven Seagal drove one in his movie Exit Wounds.

I have a 97 Ram 1500 i bought in summer of 99. The tranny is the weak link for sure. I had the transmission rebuilt in 2005 after the snap ring for the cluster gear in the transfer case broke giving false neutrals. Transgo shift kit and some 3/4 ton spec upgrades really made it tough. Scary pulling a car trailer as the shift downs and ups on the highway are real stout. Keep waiting for the driveshaft to spit out...

I remember when he switched from GMC to Ram on the show. That was when I was at my peak interest in Dodges and it made it even better. I remember one episode when his Ram was blown up by some explosion chafing a bad guy. The others asked what he’d do about the truck. He replied, “I’m going to buy another one just like it.” Fast forward 30 years, I’m sitting in my second personality owned Ram truck 🛻 right now: a ‘21 Ram 2500 Hemi. This month marks 10 years 😢Ram truck ownership for me after having a line of Toyota, Ford and Chevy pickups.

I've owned both the 318 and currently the 360. And 100% i love them both. They are absolute dogs on power, but they run and run and run. They don't care about your maintenance schedule. They turn fuel into work and are exceedingly efficient at it. The transmissions are usually on borrowed time, but hey, any vehicle that can easily go well into the 250,000+ range on just ball joints is worth it. Also, the LS market is starting to catch up in price to usability so the hot rodders have been going to the 5.9 magnum. A few internal upgrades and you can get 350+hp in a cheap low buck V8.

From my experience the 46RE transmissions are great. I think people just don’t check the fluid level properly. If you check it in park you get a false reading. The print on the dipstick says to check it in neutral on level ground with the engine idling at normal operating temperature. The manual goes further and says to shift into all of the gears ending in neutral and then check. My dad bought a brand new 1998 Ram 1500 and I’m now the caretaker of it. It’s about to clock over at 333k miles, basically 1/3 of a million. We rebuilt the transmission once but that’s how we learned we didn’t check the fluid properly. Since then it’s always been a strong transmission. I pulled cars behind it halfway across the country and it never complained. Excellent trucks! Just wish they chose better materials for the dash.

And yes the dash totally disintegrated in mine too and a quality replacement wasn't released by Mopar until well after ta decade of the end of the second gen Rams.

If you have a carefully trained eye you can spot when they started using 98-02 Rams. They changed out the mirrors for the 94-97 ones, but the interior on the newer ones are distinctive. Also in the episode ‘The Dragonfly’ Walker’s Ram 1500 gets hit by a missile. The truck used for the stunt said ‘Ram 1500’ on the side, but, if you look closely you can see the wheels are 8-lugs instead of 5-lugs. That would indicate a 2500, or 3500 Ram. Maybe they needed a heavier truck for the stunt, or it was a warranty return. Anything is possible.

These transmissions were fine behind the V8s. It was behind the Cummins that they had issues. As a Mopar parts adviser I can attest it was 10-1 the diesels 47REs that failed over the V8/V6 trucks. My 1995 made it 180k before needing both the 46RE and NP241 rebuilt. I drove the truck into a pond while trying to go fishing in 2014 4. Original 360 with its 3rd 46RH trans. Sitting at 225,000 5. Totaled a minivan after the brakes failed in 2013. 6. Used as a delivery truck from 95-97 7. Spent entire life in the same town. 8. Paint started flaking off in 2002 9. Managed to still go airborne while pulling a hay wagon loaded. (Still kept most of the bales) 10. While changing out sparkplugs, I broke the porcelain, and it ended up in the cylinder. Just started the truck and let her eat. According to an article in Car and Driver magazine Chrysler did extensive focus groups just before they released the restyled Dodge Ram and almost dropped the whole idea because a solid majority of potential buyers absolutely hated the new styling. They only stuck with it because the minority who liked it was still close to double the previous D100 models' rather dismal sales to anybody other than fleet buyers looking for cheap, disposable work trucks. Imagine what would have happened if they hadn't stuck to their guns. The other clever thing they did was take notes and pictures of contractors' trucks on construction sites to identify popular aftermarket mods to include as features.
