In the 1983 film "Lone Wolf McQuade," the 1981 Dodge Ramcharger makes a powerful statement as the rugged and reliable vehicle of choice for the titular character, J.J. McQuade, portrayed by Chuck Norris. This iconic SUV serves as McQuade's trusty companion throughout the action-packed adventure, showcasing its off-road capabilities and durability in the rough and tumble world of Texas law enforcement. With its bold design and robust performance, the 1981 Dodge Ramcharger perfectly embodies McQuade's lone wolf persona, making it an essential element of this classic 80s action film.

    My first patrol unit I was issued a 81, with a 4 on floor. Wasnt fast, burned gas and was bare bones with an AM radio for entertainment during those long graveyard shifts. Patrolled the mountains in New Mexico and it was a tank. It had no problem pushing 2 feet of snow in a blizzard and had 100k on the engine. Ran great but it was a beast to drive.

    What’s cool about these SUV’s is that the Ramcharger and Trail Duster names both give references to Mopar muscle cars from the late ‘60’s and early ‘70’s. These comparable SUV’s were sort of like the Chevy Blazer and GMC Jimmy. Same vehicles but with different branding and trim.

    Great video! I was 9 years old when I saw this movie on cable so I saw it a bunch of times. I loved this Truck! As an adult I loved Ramchargers in general but when I went to start looking for one in the 90’s they were extremely slow, the point you would have to beat on it to drive it with any type of normal acceleration. Needless to say I didn’t buy one and bought a Blazer. That may be one the reasons why Blazers of any generation are so popular compared to Ramchargers. Another great car facts video👍

    Indeed, I had a 318 '94 Ram for a time and even with the performance cam, higher compression heads, and CAI I had on it, it was still quite gutless; then again, most trucks just were back then and the same era of Fords were even worse, except for the Lightning of course, which was one of the very few decent performance trucks of that decade.

    @@DavidLLambertmobile The Army had Dodge pickup trucks when I was in it in the early 80's that looked like they were left over from the early 70's. The CUCV's when I was in were Chevy Blazers, they even went to the point of making the wheels with a different bolt pattern than any of the civilian models to keep people from stealing them for their own vehicles, I know this because the sergeant in charge of our motor pool was going to order a set for his own Blazer till he found out they wouldn't bolt up. He was a character, one time when we sent a brand new butter bar lieutenant to him for a can of radar beam grease he managed to keep his composure and played along with the gag and took it to a whole new level, he told the lieutenant that we were completely out and that he'd have to order a case of it but it was so expensive that he himself couldn't authorize the order and that it'd have to be signed by someone at battalion like the XO or the colonel himself, so he typed up a phoney requisition form for "grease, radar beam type, 1 case each" and sent that lieutenant on his merry way to battalion headquarters, he came back about an hour later with his head hung low going "That wasn't funny guy's, you got me in all kinds of trouble". Later that evening I saw a friend from headquarters battery who was laughing his ass off, he told me he'd heard this yelling going on from the colonel's office and caught "...now you get your ass back down to that motor pool and I better NEVER find out that you let those guy's make a monkey out of you like this again or I promise it'll be the end of you!!!", he told me "Yea, when I found out the lieutenant was up there with a phoney requisition form for a case of radar beam grease for the colonel to authorize I figured it was you and your crew behind it, man did he chew about 10 years off of his ass". We kinda felt bad afterwards even though it was the motor pool sergeant who'd sent him to battalion with that bogus requisition form, so we took care of him afterwards a few times and did him some solids that made him look good, it was the least we could do after the ass chewin' he took for that.

WAY hotter than my friends' Fords and GMs (I'm a GM guy, by the way). Maybe the Mopar guys were more adept at negating the consequences of smog-era restrictions than us, I dunno, but I never had a smog 350 that could compare. A few things I want to point out here. You can legally mount a police style light bar onto a vehicle provided you do not use it on the road and reserve it for off highway use. Alternatively you can bag over the lights or install yellow or non police colors on them to stay legal. I have a mad max inspired Peterson 756m on a dash bracket in my truck. So long as you don’t turn it on in view of law enforcement or somewhere you’ll get in trouble you’re fine. As to the switchable blower ? That’s as simple as a magnetic clutch which you’ll find on most air conditioner compressors in cars, though you might need to do some tweaking. Most Roots blowers do however have a bypass for low throttle applications so the engine can run without having to rely on the blower for air

    4:50 - it´s actually really easy. You could just make an electronic clutch on the inside of the blowers pulley like an A/C Compressors clutch. There is of course no off-the-shelf a/c clutch that would be able to drive a blower like that, but in theory it´s doable. (Edit : i just remembered these engines have carbs - yeah that adds complexity. Probably still doable but not that easy anymore)

  • @CarStarz42

    @CarStarz42

    5 ай бұрын

    Yeah, even if succeeding with that kind of setup, it would be ridiculously inefficient and you'd just end up burning up clutches and wasting lots of power, time, and money in the process; which is why this is not a commonly seen thing.

  • @231mac

    @231mac

    You may be able to engage while off, but there's no way to engage while it's running with a Roots-type. The amount of parasitic drag a Roots-type has, the initial shock load would destroy any electromagnetic clutch small enough to fit in the drive pulley.
