Wrestlemania X8 comes to mind, and the crowd hijacking influenced the match. Rock vs. Hogan was supposed to be Rock as the face and (Hollywood) Hogan as the heel. The WWE crowd fueled by nostalgia wanted to cheer for the returning Hogan, so the wrestlers flipped roles in the match.

Cena is genuinely one of the best WWE ever had in terms of the full package. From being able to work with hostile / apathetic crowds, charisma, solid in ring work, crossover appeal, and company ambassador, the dude's presence has really been missed. Retrospectives like these are really great at capturing what made Cena THE guy for a decade.

And he's also one of the most devoted to his fans. He loves his fans and he'll happily go out of his way to make their day truly special. Paul Heyman is another such example (despite him technically not being an actual wrestler), but to me, he's even more impressive as he can do it while also being a HEEL!

7:00 - something worth seeking out is the Wrestlemania 30 media conference - Batista cut a promo about how he had some time since wrapping up Guardians so he decided he'd come back and win the WHC - those in attendance didn't respond and he lost it - pretending to be a fan - shouting 'bootista' at himself, making fun of his skinny jeans, etc.

Several matches left off. -Goldberg vs Lesnar at Wrestlemania XX. Fans knew both were leaving the WWE and as result crapped on both. The highlight of the match was someone in the audience dressed like Hulk Hogan began doing Hogan-like taunts and getting a loud Hogan chant. -Batista vs Big Show-ECW 2006-WWE was doing an ECW show at Hammerstein's which meant there were going to be diehard ECW fans. WWE decided the match to give them that night was Batista and Big Show. The highlight was a "We should Riot" chant. -Rosie O'Donnell vs Donald Trump-Raw 2007-A match that was supposed to for comedy that the audience absolutely crapped on. Hillary Clinton vs Barack Obama-Raw 2008-Yet another comedy based match that the audience voiced their displeasure with the WWE. The only cheers was when Umaga attacked both despite him being a heel. Diva Dodgeball-Summerslam 2004-I don't know if you can call this a match but it is at least an honorable mention. This was during the first Diva Search. During the show fans were rewarded with a Diva Search vs WWE Diva dodgeball match. After the segment fans were booing it to which Lawler said he didn't understand why the fans were booing. Maybe because nobody cared about the Diva Search.

Maybe not a FULL hijack, so I understand it not being on your list, but it’s nonetheless by far my favorite, as the wrestlers altered the match to respond to the crowd reaction (so, yeah, sort of a hijack… the actual match was impacted… the result wasn’t altered of course, but the process to get there was altered significantly). It’s the Rock-Hogan match. Rock was supposed to just face it the entire time, as Hogan was the heel. But the crowd (I believe it was Montreal, so no surprise there… they love Hogan) was cheering Hogan so much that Hogan and The Rock improvised, with The Rock heeling it up. Not sure if the post-match friendly antics were improved as well, but it wouldn’t surprise me. According to their interviews after the fact (I mean real interviews, not kayfabe storylines), both were shocked at the crowd reaction. It’s a great “hijack” as the crowd actually impacted the match. Hogan and The Rock actually altered their match to respond to the crowd. That’s pretty cool when you think about it. Sports fans always talk about “my” team, as if they have some influence on the events on the field. Maybe on a rare occasion they can, by giving a psychological boost and some energy. But for the most part, it’s just silly nonsense. But here’s an example (I guess it can only happen in sports *entertainment*) when an audience actually directly impacted the events of a match. Love that match!
