@@anthonygordon9483 The girl who tells David to "open your eyes" at the end is Laura Fraser. I went to school with her younger brother. I remember our physical education teacher said that he couldn't believe that the very attractive sister was even related to someone like the brother. If he said that now, he would rightly be fired.

In 2001 I was 19 when I saw this film and absolutely fell in love with it. I found it to be so beautiful and sad and the cinematography is wonderful. With one of the best soundtracks out there. Till this day the ending still makes me cry and is in my top 20 favorite movies of all time.

I saw this movie when I was a kid in a weird way. It was playing on late night tv and I started half-way through. I fell asleep right before the ending. I later learned that it played twice on the same station back to back... Anyway I woke up as the second showing was just beginning. I didn't realize this at the time and as the movie got going again back to the place I'd originally started watching, I became very unnerved and thought I was going crazy.

I can't stop thinking about Vanilla Sky, I watched it for the first time in early 00s. I liked it back then, but revisited it again in December and it's one of the best films I've ever watched. The soundtrack is perfect. And now with the metaverse coming, it feels even more timely. I personally don't believe that most people would choose living permanently in an idealised virtual world / reality and this film only affirms that for me. Real human connection will always prevail, although it would be quite a curveball if we somehow ever found out the world we live in is a simulation...

The remake is just more accessible with the pop culture references and soundtrack. I do love it but I understand why critics hated it. Cruise is the main issue. He was too old for the part and his refusal to allow his famous features to he more mangled after the accident was just arrogance. In the Spanish film, the characters face is completely destroyed after the accident. The David Aames character is just not likeable at all so it is difficult to feel sorry for him.

The scene where everything is perfect again with Sofia & then he suddenly realizes he’s dreaming while looking at her and his description of those dreams as being cruel jokes taunting him, I’ve never heard them described in such a way & it yet it was so accurate.

I loved Vanilla Sky. One of my favorite movies ever. Cameron Crowe movies hit me a certain way in general. His musical influence in his films is pretty special, from Jerry Maguier, Elizabethtown, Vanilla Sky obviously, even We Bought a Zoo. I actually made a song influenced by this movie using the same title Vanilla Sky - Real1muzik. The song is about relationships, as was this movie and the complications within them. The feel of the song was influenced by the Radiohead song featured in the movie Everything in its Right Place. I never made a video for it but always imagined referencing the dance club scene, where David is getting shit-faced after the realization his dream girl is no longer interested in him. Funny that the girl David lost interest in was Brian's dream girl. David lost interest in Julianna, and Sofia lost interest in David. Without the bitters, the sweets aren't as sweet.
