Greenville, while sketchy in some parts back then, was more enjoyable and less crowded 10-15 years ago. Downtown feels overrun now. My home (for the past 7 years) is anderson and feels like what greenville was in its growing phase, a blend of revival meets original residents. I hate to see the old school people who accept change be shoved out by newcomers, and that’s what I work to try to prevent here - working toward bridging the gap between the new folks and the longtime residents. As a native South Carolinian, I have a few corrections to make. First, mustard BBQ sauce is the primary sauce in the Midlands, Most of the other areas are .more likely to offer you vinegar based (especially in the Pee Dee area). My hometown of Cheraw, SC offers some of the best that you ever tasted. The other correction is regarding "Bless Your Heart." While it is true that bless your heart can be used as an insult, it can often be used as a term of endearment. You just have to listen to the context. If someone in your family passed, or you break your leg bless your heart is most likely an expression of sympathy. The funny thing about that term is that people who like to highlight that expression often come from places who use terms that are equally as bad - "God bless him" and "I am just sayin'"...

Stay where you are. The property costs are not all that friendly or as he says. He is just trying to drum up clients for his real estate biz. There is constant building here and if you do not have a good income you probably cannot afford it here. Also there is no public transportation in many places. So if you are without a car, forget it. House and apartment rentals are skyrocketing too. Also did he mention the traffic and the bad drivers (especially from Ohio and NY) It is a matter of time before the insurance costs will rise to NY/NJ/Cali levels. The southern charm that he mentions is disappearing too. It used to be that people waved to you. It is happening less and less. Beware of people like this guy who thinks he is cute by making these videos.

You can live in an area that's safe and you leave your area and you have crime. They also have more damn palmetto bugs than Florida! The pest company is a way of life. What i do like about SC is it's super cheap and most of the people are friendly and can be a good friend no matter your skin color, But that's slowly changing now that a bunch of Socialists are moving in. @@adamn2850 Yeah, SC has some good parts but again it's a pocket state. I like some towns near the mountains and some towns near the ocean like the Murrells Inlet etc. FL is a pocket state too. There is more racism in FL than SC. People in SC come together. I'm house hunting right now and the only areas im interested in are DeLand, Ormond Beach, Flagler Beach areas and Plant City- east of Tampa. Im also looking into NWA (Northwest Arkansas) in the Ozarks and maybe east Oklahoma. Basically because of all the waterfalls, river, and the Ozarks. I know FL and Ozarks are alot different but i can get a couple acres in OK or AR with a decent house for around $100k or less. They also have stand your ground laws and have passive gun laws. SC is still a good option. Decisions decisions 🤔. Do i want land or close to the beach? Hard choice. Edit: FL is getting very crowded which i dont care for. In 20 yrs it will be unlivable. Summers in SC suck! I live in the Charleston area and cringe when the calendar gets to May. I wish we could go from May to late October and skip the months in between because the heat and humidity is beyond tolerable. We do have a long spring (really nice), a long summer (brutal/Hellish), basically no fall because it goes from hot to cold with barely any transition, and a short winter.

But sold my house in California and have purchased one in Camden so the die is cast. Spent Some of my childhood in northern Alabama also had kin in Georgia…..So the humidity will not be a surprise, Plus my father who was actually very intelligent used to pack us into the Ford woody station wagon and then drive us to Sarasota Florida! Yes because let’s go farther south when it’s super hot and already humid in Ohio?

I'm looking for something close (less than 2 miles) to Walmart, groceries, vet, primary physician and eye doctors (specifically a retina specialist). My right eye has been legally blind since I was a kid. Diabetes damaged the retina in my left eye (didn't affect the right eye at all) so now I'm legally blind in both eyes and don't want to drive if I don't have to. I'd love a place outside of town with some property. At least an acre. But then I'd need to rely on someone for a ride every time I need to go somewhere. I left my job in Nov. 2019 due to the vision problem and am still waiting for Soc. Sec. to make a decision about giving me benefits. (Been 8 months so far since I filed). I have some money in the bank but would need to sell my condo first before I can purchase a home. But where do I live in between? No bank would give me a loan if I have no income, so I need to have enough money to buy the house outright. (Sorry for the loonnng answer. lol)

Don’t hold your breath many of these moving to Charleston/South Carolina videos are real estate agent who want your business so they are not going to be upfront with you. I was raised in Charleston but moved to Georgia, Georgia has its own problems but these are the real issues: Hurricane season will affect your insurance rates (be wary of water damage and wind damage) the lowcounty is at sea level and floods and floods very easily ( this includes around the hospitals in an emergency you may have to call the ER and pay ER prices as opposed to driving to save money on a rainy flood day), property that is a 15 -18 minute drive from the seafront communities while be taxed as seafront property anyway and that will be used as an excuse to hike the property tax. you will not pay for toll meters but you will pay taxes on your car(s) based on the appraisal value and additional fees for registration , the price of living is low but so are wages meaning you will pay less but make less money, (employers are hesitant to adjust salaries based on the money who previously made while living elsewhere) the majority of public schools in the state are failing, Columbia has a significant homeless problem Horry county and Charleston county have high rates of overdose from opiate abuse
