    coming back here to say that i took your advice, i bought some oversized menswear pants, got a couple belts, focused more on sillouette and less on trying to appear smaller, accentuated my broad shoulders and cinched things at my waist, and my fashion has tremendously changed, and looks so GOOD now!!! i've never felt so confident before, and so comfortable in my skin. thank you for making this video!

    Because I have broad shoulders, I can put on up to 25 pounds over my ideal weight and size (US size 8) and people tend not to notice the weight (it takes a long time for my hips to overtake my shoulders). Well, my hips have overtaken my shoulders (I'm 40 pounds up) and I miss those days. If you're blessed enough to have broad shoulders as a woman, you're blessed. It's a good fashion tip to focus on them.

    pro tip: If you think you can pull something off, you most probably actually can pull it off. It's all about the confidence. How do you think Rihanna makes all these ridiculous clothes look good? She is obviously gorgeous, but what makes the look is her confidence. She just knows she looks good in whatever crazy look some her stylist or some designer put her in, and other people can sense that.

    Petite women also shouldn't overlook the kid's section- there can be some surprisingly chic items and basics from there with more cropped proportions and a lower price! Kid's shoes are labeled a size and a half smaller than women's, so women up to a shoe size 8 1/2 can look in the children's section.

  • @DiggandDugg

    @DiggandDugg

    Also looking at the men's section can work well for many people. Depends on the fit but if you want a loose fitting white T-shirt grab a cheaper mens one and it will even be nicer than the women's shirt. There are a lot of things that work very well for people, going outside your gender, age and size can really work. If a brand has weird sizing maybe you need two sizes bigger but wear what suits you, not what the number says.

    Another positive aspect of shopping the men`s section (in thrift stores) is that their clothes are often better quality like 100% Cotton, Wool, etc. Women`s clothes are more often mixed fibers or synthetic ones.

    I feel so bad for younger people who need to thrift to maintain their style on a budget, because thrift stores now are full of crap from the 2000s, and the quality is awful. In the 90s and early 2000s, we would find amazing vintage clothes with very little effort... Great fabrics and quality. Even the synthetics were better quality. I remember getting rid of a vintage cashmere coat because I had too many nice vintage winter coats (and cashmere back then was a quality product, not the poorly milled, pilling quality that is sold ubiquitously now).

My now older daughters find it cool to see their mom wearing this. I only show a sliver of skin though. Just enough to still feel classy. Try the aritzia brand Sunday best tank. It is what I have. EP don't tell your mother and sis and just do it. Throw on the styles you enjoy and there are ways to wear them without feeling or looking teenage. In my generation they were not meant for teenagers anyway it was too adult, go figure. Once your family sees you looking nice their minds will open up. And either way you just may be the more stylish one out of your family members and you have your own style, it's ok to stand alone. That's also what trendsetters do.

    Another tip that I have that I think might be good is, you should have mostly basics. Like for example a white shirt and good jeans. Basics are building blocks for your style. Once you find the perfect basics for you you can add on more “unique” pieces. When you have too many pieces that are just all over the place it’s hard to create outfits (I had this problem a lot). Hope this makes sense, and helps! ☺️✨

I also am so glad I no longer buy or keep things I don't fit into thinking I'll just work on fitting a smaller size in the future. 🤦🏻‍♀️I also recently ordered some things from Heavy Manners and love that they say "don't be afraid to size up" on all of their descriptions! Great video. One thing I love about fashion and style is that it's a journey. Shoot, I only started my style journey in March, and even now I'm looking at pieces I added when I got started thinking to myself, 'what was I thinking!' And it was all based on points you've made here: I wasn't conscientious of the fabric or the cut, and picked it because it was cheap and trendy. However, it was definitely fun to experiment with it, and fun to grab a little bit of everything and then see over time which items I gravitated towards the most. It's great knowing what we like and being selective and intentional with our choices as our fashion tastes develop. And I'll still take risks with those trendy items, but I move quicker now so I can make my decision within the store's return window.

    Your advise is on point and very helpful. I am 54 and have just come to understand these rules. I am passing them on to my daughter so she can be spared the chaos of a cluttered wardrobe. I like what you said about overbuying a style. For me, I would just wear the one piece to death even though I had bought 3 more like it. It’s okay to buy and wear the one piece to death. I am now mindful of the joy I get in dressing up an enjoying it more. Thanks for a great video.

    So true about the sizing thing. When I was younger I always tried to squeeze into the smallest size I could (shoes included! Yikes!). I love my comfy trousers these days. I belt them at the waist and let the fabric flow. They look much more chic and I dont feel like a sausage stuffed into a toosmall pair of skinny jeans!!!

    I always completely tucked in my tops and wore high waisted skirts and pants, but eventually I realized how weird it looked because I have a very high waist. I switched to mid length shirts, mid waisted pants, and it’s better. I do sometimes lament the fact that I can’t partake in some trends but ah well

    This is so great! Especially the mens clothing, but I will say it's kind of annoying when everyone keeps buying larger sizes from thrift shops and then tailoring them down to fit 2 sizes smaller when there's precious little larger size clothes in second hand shops. Just something for people to keep in mind :)

    Depends on what type garment, I think. Slim fitting T-shirts with a bit (like less than 10%) of lycra or spandex hold their shape better & don't get so stretched out. And I love loose-fitting linen/ hemp tunics and babydoll dresses bc they wear beautifully throughout the day. I don't iron anything, so it's not like starting with a firmly starched garment. Soft, easy vibes♡

    One thing that helps is AIR DRYING anything with spandex (or really most fabrics, but especially those with spandex)- the heat from the dryer causes it to break down and lose its stretch. That's why new tight jeans fit all day but eventually start to bag at the knees by mid-afternoon.

    So agree with many points you made but I want to especially address the gold vs silver part. As someone who works in a jewelry store, I have more chances observing how each color(and rose gold) looks on people with different skin tone and under tone. I had always questioned the cold under tone with silver, and warm undertone with gold method, and the more people I see at work the more I find it doesn't work. So my suggestion would be don't get yourself restricted because of those rules. I've seen so many people who don't have a neutral under tone who can wear both gold and silver as well. There are different shades of gold, and if one doesn't work maybe try another one. The style of the jewelry also matters. Try different things. I've found out that when I wear silver, something big and bulky looks better than dainty pieces, and when I wear gold, it cannot be too yellow and it has to be very small and minimal.
