I've only recently gotten used to wearing more revealing styles on top instead of baggy sweaters everyday... Probably still insecure because of all the people who used to comment on my broad shoulders... In school it would upset me but make me feel confident at gymnastics practice, it's crazy how much your environment can affect your thoughts and feelings

Girl I feel you! I have very broad shoulders as well and often times I'm broader than most guys! But for me, lifting weights, surfing and anything athletic is easier for me because it adds to your strength ! Just like your gymnastics.... definitely don't feel insecure because it's a badass quality and we don't have to work as hard to have that smaller looking waist and we can excel in our sports/hobbies... which a lot of those people that tease you, I bet can't do anything in gymnastics with their weak build haha !

Just a personal observation, I find off the shoulder tops suit girls with wide shoulders more than tops that cover them. When you cover them people can still see how wide your shoulders are, but when you're showing your skin, it makes you look more feminine and the silhouette of the neck and the shoulders create such an elegant shape that people forget how wide your shoulders are. Also having smooth and glowy skin helps distract people

SarahClark I have broad shoulders too and if you wear bulky oversized items to try to hide them it will just make them look bigger. You need to wear fitted clothes on top. V necks are your friend. No boat necks or crew necks, especially if you have also big boobs. I’m 27 and it’s taken this long for me to understand this. I used to wear oversized items thinking it was helping me but it made me look worse.

"Somewhere between inverted triangle and hourglass". This is exactly me. My shoulders shout for attention, my waist is not narrow enough to qualify as the "hourglass", my hips are not wide enough to complete the hourglass figure and each of these areas have significantly different proportions that the "rectangle" physique doesn't apply either. I have tried styles for "the inverted triangle" shape and they didn't look OK. "Hour glass styles" were somehow off too. I have just gone with turtle necks tops and A-line bottoms to make everything above look smaller than everything below (doesn't work all the time though). Thanks to this channel I have gotten a sense of what I need to do to make clothes flatter my physique. Keep up the good work!

I felt this on my soul. I've wide shoulders too, and sometimes I don't qualify as an inverted triangle or the rectangle shape either, and it's so frustrating cause if I follow one it will make me look more like a triangle and if I follow the other I look way to wide, but something that kinda saved me was the Kibbe body types it's has so many body shapes, that I can actually fit in one and follow the advice it

@@captainman2clever351 Not necessarily. Some people look better with a slim waist and others don't. Also, there is a beauty standard that says a smaller waist is the best, and a lot of people want to fit that (so this video caters to them), but subjectively a lot of people might not like that. There is both societal opinions and personal opinions to keep in mind.

I wish I could give you one hundred thumbs up. This is my first time commenting even though I’ve been watching your videos religiously for over a year. I’ve been unconsciously exploring this idea of accentuating my waist for a long time, and I’ve just realized that a lot of the tips and tricks you have mentioned were things I have considered/done without even realizing the effect that they have. Other things were brand new to me and just completely blew my mind. Needless to say, thank you so much for taking the time to do this video. It is absolutely everything.

I am SO GLAD that you spoke up and said "the power of having any kind of platform ", and you also said impressionable...in my opinion many celebrities and social media personalities don't even realize the IMPACT they have on people's minds and how folk tend to gobble up what is said. I love it.....applause!!! I'm a fashion designer and I googled illusion of smaller waist. So YES...that's for the beginning disclaimer....more should step up and be self accountable for what they display to the world.

Ugh, forever wishing I was born with an hourglass/pear shaped body lol. I hold a lot of my weight around the tummy. It's the one thing that led to my eating disorder and kept me from full recovery for 9 years. Every time I would reach my healthy weight range I would freak out and relapse. I'm currently trying to restore my hormones after years of not having a period, but man it's hard. The one thing I do feel has helped give the look of a smaller waist though is lifting weights and growing my lats:) Not sure why I felt the need to share my story here, but maybe someone out there can relate. You can't choose where you genetically hold fat, unfortunately, but it doesn't make you less fit or less of a person

♥️♥️♥️ Couldn’t agree more, I wish I could make videos for every body type but I’m only familiar with dressing my own. I assume and hope that those who watch my videos understand that it’s ok to have a different body type but that’s not always the case. It’s very difficult not to compare or to think that something is wrong with us because we don’t look like what we see on the internet. Specially, for my younger audience, I don’t ever want to make them feel that way. I went through it when I was younger, trying to achieve a specific body.. and I’m still paying for the consequences. Also, yes!! weight training and having a proper caloric intake for my height has definitely changed my body ALOT. I barely had hips or much of a waist before (even when I started youtube) I was much thinner, I’ve gained like 20lb since starting youtube almost 4 years ago and I’ve never felt more womanly or more confident even though my body fat is higher and this is a weight that I was afraid to be at before. ♥️♥️♥️

Girl I’m literally almost a line backer!! lol I have very broad shoulders too but sometimes I use it to my advantage and it doesn’t look bad, maybe try a sweetheart neckline instead of a straight across top. You can also try offsetting it with a dainty pendant necklace that hits around the middle of your sternum. ♥️

Lorna Muller I have really broad shoulders as well and like Gemary, have referred to myself as a linebacker LOL. Just know that when done right, off shoulder, boatneck, wide scoopneck or a sweetheart is what is going to lend to the illusion of a much smaller waist. Take advantage of what you’ve got. Sometimes I’m feeling extra crazy and will go with a puff shoulder sweetheart top with a belted pencil skirt. I get so many compliments on my figure everytime I wear that combo, which you wouldn’t guess a puff shoulder would do.

This was an amazingly informative video, your styling videos are some of my favourites because I have a very similar body type and they help me pin point why certain clothes don't look right on me and how I can fix it. The moment I saw the clips with you in tights I checked out the other video and I've been trying to find leggings that work for me for so long!! The only ones that I've found are comfortable and don't make me look like an overstuffed sausage are the lulu lemon wunder under full on luon tights, but they're so expensive. If you ever want to make a video about athleisure and cute gym clothing, I would love to watch it!!!

Thank you so much for the tips! I really like your style, so elegant and dainty. Just one more thing, how do you wrap your shirts? I'm not sure how to do it in a way that stay still throughout the day. Thank you in advance :)

Amazing video! 🤩 so clever 😊 Can you do a video on styling your waist for a really cold climate? I feel all I wear is an oversized polo jumper and jeans! It’s so boring ! 😴 x

What bras do you wear with the off the shoulder tops? I've tried strapless bras but it always looks off with my off the shoulder shirts.

Thank you for the wonderful video. You are so beautiful and the top your wearing looks very nice on you. I love the look and would wear it myself but I prefer to wear things without having to readjust through the day. Would sleeveless or tank tops work aswell?

Thanks for the tips gal! Do you have any tips for making shoulders appear less broad? My hips aren't wide/have no shape so it makes it even more disproportionate... I definitely need to work on my posture too
