Interesting video, end product turned out good. Wanted to share some thoughts for anyone at home considering assembling a similar shed. Although the instructions state to build and stand a wall at a time. Perfect way to do it for low roof heights. With kits where the eve height is 2700 - 3000, build each u shaped portal and stand them one by one. Sealing the gap between the sheet and the slab is a challenge to achieve in a cost effective manor. Do note the composition of concrete will corrode sheets when the w are in contact, especially so if back filling against a sheet. There is off the shelf materials available depending upon what sheet profile you use. At the time of writing such product options are limited and expensive. If you intend to line internal walls, consider using conventional insulation batts with runs of fishing line to retain them pre cladding installation. Generally speaking batts are more cost effective with a higher insulation value. Hopefully some one finds this info helpful

Thank for the advice. I'm about to build a shed of similar size and I thought it would be better also to erect each arch first. I'm cladding the outside with James Hardy fibro cement sheeting. And insulating the wall as you suggested. Would I have to worry about condensation ruining the bats? Someone told me , if you use the silver roof insulation but have clear skylight sheets it will cause condensation?

Geez you're game videoing your effort without any prior experience, i would have looked like a complete muppet if i videoed my build effort, i'm fairly handy with DIY stuff but still was scratching my head the whole time. Well done, really enjoyed watching!

I know it's a bit late now but I've seen a couple of shed instructional videos that say to offset the foot brackets near the roller doors for the reason you came across. Will be using your video as a reference for when I erect my shed though. 👌

great video ,i also ordered best shed kit 6x9 at 2,7 now with steel price rise and i am in high wind category B up here in QLD twin rollers and personal door price was same as yours $7590 delivered , insulation extra around 200 per roll , builder mate i work for nice young fella very smart ,,helping me out with the construction planning and laying the slab .

I just got a price today for a 7x12 carport from ranbuild. Carport… no roller doors, no windows, no cladding, no installation $13260 😂😆

Mate that video was outstanding - so well thought through, filmed, edited. The content was great too, exactly what I came here for. Thank you so much for sharing. A few really minor points: 1) I've used exactly the same sealant on my concrete driveway and carport, and was told to use 50% thinners for the first coat, which I did and it worked well. Don't know the pro's and cons of 20% vs 50% but if you want to spread your remainder that's an option. 2) Have you thought about roof sprinkler systems for fire protection? if so, I'd love to see you do it, as you seem very DIY savvy and meticulous. 3) With regards to electrical, I get you wanting it done properly, but another option I use all the time, is run all the cable & conduit and mount all fittings, then pay a sparky to connect, check & power up. That way it's certified work for the construction cert and ongoing insurance, but a lot cheaper. Heaps of sparkies are happy to spend 2 hours and charge $500 instead of 2 days for $2,000. 4) Did you set any fall for the slab or just do it all dead-flat? The former is good for water run off eg pressure cleaning and the latter best for machinery obviously. 5) Do you have any idea of what weight you can safely lift using the roof beams as is? Some large spans obviously. I like lifting engines out of cars or lifting a ride-on mower up to work on it, so roof winches are useful but load bearing could be an issue. 6) I always throw a sealed conduit with a draw string under a slab across the middle in case of future cabling requirements. I can't help myself, sometimes it's better to have power or data coming up from the floor than down from the roof, I mark it on the outside and in the EDB to help future me / owners. Hey mate, some great tips, thanks for sharing! Agree on the sealant - thinner has deeper penetration. It has lifted a bit in the oily areas - have enough left to top up. No roof sprinklers at this stage - expensive to do it properly (all metal). Electrical - totally agree, depends on the tradie. I've also helped chippies lay noggins to save time. No fall intentional as you mentioned, and slab always above ground. As for weight on the span - this is supported independantly from the shed. Not sure on weight, but the data is available - if I was lifting an engine I'd look it up first :D Good idea on conduit - we had orange conduit in our roof (the tough stuff) with rat chew holes all along it, little buggers get desparate when they're dehydrated from throw poisons.

In NZ it costs 2-3x as much as what you pay for steel kit set. In 2021 I built 120m2 plywood shed mono pitch with concrete floor cost $25k excluding electrical and consent fees and labour. Wood cladding improves humidity compared to my previous steel shed.

Hey Rowan, nice build good setup 👍 Doing a build myself on a 320 sq.mt. Garage with man cave and am putting it up myself with a few mates. Been some real setup headaches with plans and lack of details on fixings but are on top of it now, really taking shape. The BIGGEST issue we’re having with this ‘best sheds’ manufacturer is the quality of the Korean steel, we are having real trouble using tek screws to fix as well as drilling holes for 12mm bolts (which should be pre drilled). Have been drilling pilot holes with 5mm bits then 12mm to get hole to fix, but Geez this steel still has rocks in iron ore.. I’ve busted that many drill bits to get through and doesn’t make it any easier when it’s 4.2mt up! Wondering if you had same problems for drilling through this rock?? All the best 👍🇦🇺

I'm just about ready to start building my shed. It's going to be 15m across, 9m deep and 3.6m high at the eaves (4.5m high overall) . Still looking for a shed builder to erect the structure. I have a concreter lined up for now. Just wondering about insulation. I want to use Anticon 80 or 100 for the roof, whichever is suited. I was wondering if I should use air cell first, just as you have done for roof and walls, then place the anticon over the air cell just on the roof span. Has anyone ever tried that ?

can i ask where a bouts you are in southern NSW - which council did you deal with ?

So by watching this vid I can get an idea of what’s needed , what has to be done. I definitely think I will employ a “Shed Builder”. It’s great to have this vid as a reference though. Well done mate. I am wanting to put on a shed at our place in rural nsw. I dont think i am as brave as you i would get a builder to do mine and a concreter, this is because as my wife says the only thing handy about me is i live close. Thanks for the informative video, however our shed will be to live in. Would you say 3 metres high enough or should l go higher? Hey mate, sounds like a big project on your hands! As for height, mine is high enough for fume dissipation but not quite high enough for a comfortable mezzanine. So I'd be thinking is the extra surface area usable. As for overall floor size, you'll have to balance your needs with economy of scale. Material lengths are engineered at various price points (span widths etc) so I'd start by shopping around.

Which grade aluminium column are you using

Who did you use for your owner builder certificate?

Hi mate, solid rock heading down the hill - I figured I'd go above ground for now, just to get some catchment happening quickly - go underground later.

Im in the process of planning out a workshop. Wanted to get a 7x12 kit carport, and then just frame some walls to support rough sawn cladding. Would have saved mucking around with engineering. My jaw near hit the ground when I got the price back from ranbuild.

Given that engineering is based on minimum cost to meet minimum requirements I'd just be cautious about weight and wind for the carport posts and fixtures.

What sort of club is your clubhouse for?

Would you recommend permastop for shed insulation?

I used Aircell for a couple of reasons - the shed manufacturer sold it (so cheaper to bundle with the shed kit delivery), and because it's thin enough to clad over. Makes it very easy to install. Youd have to look into the most effective way to add permastop into the building process. Also, if you get mice (most sheds do), they'll nest in anything fluffy.

Spend the extra and buy colorbond/Aussie product, in my opinion Jerez, my sheds ‘best sheds’ and they are cheaper for a reason I’ve now found out!!

I don't think we dig holes for slabs here in WA, is it needed for clay soils?

I got my dad to help me put my shed up its a disaster corner capping don't even fit.

Is it necessary to seal the cement before building on it?

Nope, the posts, brackets and dynabolts are gal. The slab has good drainage and plastic too so I'm not worried about moisture coming through.

6x6 ?

Any one using this as a guide, don’t lay concrete against wall sheets (as seen here to seal the base of the sheets to the slab). The concrete will dramatically reduce the life span of the sheets

I'm in a dry climate and would do it differently if I lived in qld or anywhere humid. Plenty of examples around here of slabs poured against iron cladding from 70s and 80s with zero rust.

Did you just say $6000 for the earth works and slab. I feel ripped off I payed $7500 for just a 49 m2 shed slab.🤬

Are you aware that keyboard warrior comments, as stupid as they may be, help your channel with the youtube algorithm? Thats why people purposely state incorrect facts on their video’s, that way they get heaps of comment flac and it helps their channel.

Best sheds is literally the worst possible company you can go with…

A good trick we use in the trades is to put some tape on the drill bit to indicate the length of your dyna bolts, just make it 5-10mm longer then your dynabolts to factor in a bit of dust...

I wish there was a trick for not hitting reo.

i am currnetly in the process of insulating my shed as i am in CQ and it gets rather hot. your idea for structural pine and concrete to seal the sides was a great idea which i will now use on my shed thank you.

prices have increased big time since this video.

Your white cards are Australia wide I did my one through West Aus into me 30 min and cost $110.
