Some more reasons to train and practice parkour: You can chase people (think someone stealing your mother's purse) You get stronger, faster, more agile and flexible You lose a lot of weight You build muscle without paying for a gym You don't get cancer, diabetes or a heart attack due to a "sedentary lifestyle" You learn to focus and hush your mind - in a way parkour is like meditation You learn how to deal with pain You see the world with new eyes Obstacles become opportunities You have a reason to get up in the morning (training) You can meet new people You reduce the risk of depression, anxiety and other mental health issues dramatically You can work as a firefighter You can stop or slow aging You can grow up faster (by taking responsibility for your actions) You can become a circus artist You can become a stunt person and work for movies You can become an influencer like Ronnie, Storror or Jesse La Flair. You can travel the world (often people will host you for free) You become very disciplined (by training daily e.g.)

My main reason for doing parkour is, for me, it’s basically just an updated and more mature/cool way of playing. Playing just as I did when I was a kid in a playground, the cool part is everywhere is now my playground. And also it overall feels great to be able to free roam your surroundings as you’d do in a video game, not being limited by average boundaries.

That's that's what I think about when I look at parkour, like why it seems interesting to me I think on a basic level is that it's just like playing on a jungle gym in elementary school or bouldering with your friends, except it's a bit more grown up, with a whole community, and more jumps and tricks you can do

  • @GertieTheGardener

#1 reason to do parkour -- because it's FUN. I'm 50 years old, overweight, and I generally hate exercise. And I'm going through menopause. But after losing 40+ pounds -- and halfway to a healthy weight -- I signed up for parkour classes because it looked FUN. After my first class, I have learned that I can't do a pull-up, I can't even hang from the bar for ten full seconds. My failure at most QM exercises has convinced me I can't possibly know how to walk. And even though I was once a dancer, I can't even keep my balance on a 8-inch wide platform while walking across it. So with me in the class, parkour is not only fun, it's funny. Best of all, now that I'm in a parkour class, I have an excuse (other than menopause) to be jumping on benches in the park. Fun. Just for fun.

Lord Lampington There’s someone in my school who has broken bones dozens, and she doesn’t do parkour, while I’ve only broken bones 3.5 times and I do parkour. 2 of the times were hitting certain types of cracks while Ripstiking, and I wasn’t wearing any pads, so I fell in a curve with my arm out, and then my upper left forearm bent backwards and snapped. The other main time was when I was running with wet cleats on, and then I jumped onto wet plywood, and I slipped up, flew many feet in the air, and then fell and hairline fractured my tibia. I actually didn’t even realize how far it was until I checked afterwards. Also, I would probably land properly next time, and I normally did that in general, but that time, it just so happened to be wet outside, and I just so happened to be wearing cleats. The same thing actually happened to someone else, and he just slid and he was fine. The other half incident was falling off of my waist-height bed, onto my leg a week or so after getting the cast off, and then I think I partially cracked my fibula.

It actually happened. I was going to see Black Sabbath on their farewell tour and right outside the arena some guy just ripped out a ticket from another's hand and started running with it. Nobody reacted so I started sprinting and a chase ensued. The guy was very fast but thanks to my minimal parkour skills I could cut off from his lead on staircases and fences eventually catching up with him and returning the ticket to it's owner who was in no condition to run. You do feel like the coolest dude on Earth afterwards.

I've tried a lot of sports in the past (everything from football to figure skating) and been generally dissatisfied with all of them. I've recently been wondering what new sport to try, because I do really enjoy being active. I'd been considering some really esoteric stuff like breakdancing and aerial silks, but this video made me decide on parkour! You've got yourself a sub my dude :D

If you just run, jump and climb within your skill level unless you’ve gotten good at what you’re doing and you just move up to the next thing like 5 ft drop mastery and starting 6ft drop for example, you’re not going to die. It’s only if you decide to jump from a great height that you’re not even close to jumping from, and especially if it’s a height that anyone would die from, or something like that, you would die.

During big conventions the first 5 levels get pretty crowded and the only way down are, elevators (which are for hotel guest use only) the stairs for emergency use only and the escalators. To get to the thrid floor there is only one set of escalators, so i was wondering what your perspective would be about using parkour to travel from floors 1-5, or if its too dangerous to attempt?
