10 Reasons NOT to Move to London

What are the reasons not to move to London? I used to wonder why some folks didn’t want to move to London, the city I so much love and admire. I couldn’t figure out why some people would see the great city and capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain as a no-go area. But now, I know better! Looking through their eyes, I have seen their reasons not to move to London.
I, kind of, agree with them, though that may not change anything for me about the iconic London cityscape which I still hold in high esteem. Yet, I’m not proud to tell you about the negative sides of living in London. For those living well above the poverty line, there’s nowhere like London. Their first days, weeks, and even months in the metropolis will likely be the moments of unprecedented novelty, energy, and infinite possibilities. But living in the British capital may present a nightmare for people living from hand to mouth.
Now consider the reasons and see if you can, because of these, decide not to visit London, not to talk about moving there.
1. Housing Is Very Expensive
Properties for rent are not at all cheap in London. The first time you start looking for a room, you may wonder whether the prices you’re given are actually for a room or the whole flat. Please don’t try to convert the amount to the currency of your home country so that you don’t develop goose pimples upon realizing how much of that you have to cough out to secure a place just to lay your head.
Housing in London is just too expensive. Sometimes the cost of housing can neutralize the excitement and anticipation of seemingly high wages that attract many to the city. This also causes high tenant rotation. At times, you question whether or not you’d ever find a stable home environment.
For those who are rich enough to think about buying a home when moving to London, a shocking reality that awaits them is the cost.
2. Weather
London weather is something else. The skies remain grey for most of the year. It can sometimes be depressing when the dark weather goes on for two or more weeks. This explains high rates of depression among Londoners of certain status. But while you’re coping with the moodiness, the weather can unexpectedly change and become very hot, and then suddenly back to rainy and windy.
This unpredictability of the city’s weather is one of the 10 reasons not to move to London that are mostly referred to. Of course, some who have lived in London for a long have learned to cope with its weather.
3. The Time Taken to Get Anywhere, Be It by Car or Public Transport Is Too Much
For the sake of explanations in this video, let’s assume you have stayed long enough to be able to afford a car and all the necessary permits to drive in the metropolis. Driving in central London presents challenges most of the new drivers are not mentally and emotionally prepared for. Driving in London is such is hard work that car owners try to avoid. If you’re among those that enjoy driving your car daily, you have a reason not to move to London.
Even if you don’t have your car, perhaps as you’re just relocating to London and what you’re used to is spending a short time traveling within cities, living in London will shock you. Traffic congestion is just everywhere and you may travel for two hours covering a distance you could cover in forty-five minutes elsewhere.
Driving daily should be avoided if you can. It can become quite expensive as congestion charges were introduced.

@@ParsclickTV because Scotland is another part of the UK. We are talking about the weather in Britain not the South of France or California. There is a general misconception that London has ‘bad weather’ when actually, it doesn’t really. The comparison with Scotland was because the weather in Scotland is more typical of what many people think the weather in London is like .

I love London and will move back permanently, but my personal negatives of living there are: 1. The sheer percentage of smokers and relaxed attitudes to smoking. 2. The weather 3. Lack of career opportunities given to non-exceptional new grads in job market 4. Expensive cost of living 5. A bit old school with some technology- old buildings, no A/C, boiler heating system, manual cars, etc.

As a born and bred Londoner, I agree with much of this, though for many, the benefits will outweigh the drawbacks. Is the video aimed at people from other countries coming to the UK? Or people from other parts of the UK coming to London? Some of the negatives apply to the UK as a whole, or to big cities in general.

I feel lucky I was born in London and lived here all my life. Having visited many cities worldwide I've yet to find a city where I could imagine living and working (and probably never will in spite of how it's changed). Like all cities London has good and bad areas, largely dependant on your budget. Now it's overcrowded with heavy traffic daily, with blocks of flats rising up on every patch of land, I'm so pleased I enjoyed the best of it!

Oxford Street 25 minutes away, Epping Forest, and the M11 if I need to get the feck out. Best of both worlds. 😀 I said if I stayed here for five years, I'd probably have a heart attack with the stress. 25 years now.

Remembering how poor I felt living for a year in SE London on scholarship £500 per month despite in my country I still earn 20k monthly. Imagine the currency difference £1= 6-7 those days. Other issues including the size of the house make me think three times before thinking of moving to live there. Perhaps outside London I don’t mind.

London is a okay city but the next 10 to 15 years it can seriously go into space, the city is slowly being regenerated, places like old oak, which will be a new city within one, you have countless new skyscrapers, countless buildings being converted into roof gardens with bars, you have completely new districts opening up due to the new super speed rail that connects places like the west end to the east by ony 15 mins. I was recently in soho and that whole area has new state of the art buildins. And venues Should be awesome to see it become even better then it is, left thou, hopefully come back in 2027 to see some new stuff again

Wrong about racism, weather isn’t bad compared with New York or any Northern European city like Paris or Berlin. The transport in London is one of the best in the world and as the U.K. is so small if you want to see any other place it’s an easy drive or train ride away. There’s low levels of pollution compared to any other global city and although it’s expensive most jobs here pay a lot more than other places in the world so it counters that. All in all, pretty poor video

How the hell can you claim Britain is not a racist country? It's as racist and xenophobic as fuck! I'm an ex-pat Brit who grew up in London and lived there for 40 years. You can't tell me that as i know better. I lived in the north, south, east and west of London. I spent 3 years in Brixton and lived through 2 race riots. You don't know what you're talking about where racism in the UK is concerned. I now live in New Zealand and that's as racist as fuck too - like everywhere else I suppose.

London is only 2,5 zone , overestimated properties , according to the location, looks acceptable , rest is mostly not nice , underground is from the museum , should be tourist attraction , free of charge , no deep connection friends well forget about this , known faces , danger in some places ,

Hardly. Mild most of the year round.Rarely cold in winter though can be hot and humid occasionally.Quite dry and good for walking and travelling.
