I would like to add an honorable mention. Mad Max is another very tough open world and gathering water, scraps, and other things all while being hunted by bandits, all those things plus surviving in the desert makes the game have a dangerous open world. Another mention: The metro games. Specifically Metro Exodus, because, well, Metro Exodus.

I’m so happy you got Dragon’s Dogma on here. Super underrated and love going back into it to play it at any time. Aside from its monsters and painstaking travel time, the amount of customization you can put into your character in terms of your appearance as well as your combat class is absolutely astounding. It’s story isn’t going to be necessarily “new” but it’s still unique, packed with lore and throws you for loops both in great and hilarious ways.

I want another DD so bad, I agree it has some of the best character creation in any game, like how you could make your character very short and if they were short they could fit in certain places. Right? It makes the combat feel so much more real. I'm not just attacking a big monster by slashing it's legs until it's healthbar goes down, I'm climbing on it and stabbing it in the face. That game is ridiculously underrated. The story and quests are a bit crappy but the combat is incredible, it should have had a more fleshed out sequel ages ago. Even being a mage is freaking awesome. Calling down meteors and whatnot is usually reserved for turn based games but nah DD has you covered bro.

Honestly, subnautica being on here caught me by surprise. True, it generates a lot of fear and tense moments that can be tough to get through, like when a sea dragon’s eyes lock on to your cyclops, or when a reaper attacks and you’re fleeing at only 13 health, but from a purely mechanical standpoint, subnautica’s pretty easy just as long as you know what you’re doing and are cautious when doing risky stuff.

I just finished Days Gone, what a good game. I remember the first time I ran into a horde and how baffling it was to me...I remember I thought "How the hell will I ever beat one of these, it has gotta be almost impossible"...then I beat one, two...three and so on and so forth...then I met the sawmill horde, and again I thought "There is no way I can beat this horde..."...then I did. That game has such an amazing "progression" system and the feeling of actually becoming stronger both in a digital sense AND real-life sense, as far as learning how to do things to increase your chances of survival is simply amazing. I really hope they make a sequel to this game, so good.

Does Days Gone have something which will randomly generate new maps? This is critical because a fixed map means two or maybe three runs and it's game over. A fixed map is like having a great milkshake whereas a game with randomly generated new maps is like having the icecream store which makes the milkshakes. I'm all into games with endless replay value.

For real. The first few hours in the game I went full stealth barely taking on the freaks, then eventually you learn more about them and get stronger and it makes the game much easier. It did take me a few try for the Sawmill horde. I think the one thing that makes you jump from scared of taking on freaks to full on taking them is when you unlock the melee perks. Those are game changers.

Outward is definitely worth a look. There are no levels it's all reliant on your gear, ability and choosing your battles. You can collapse from being to hot or to cold, depending on the area. And with the DLC there are 5 area maps to explore. Although land nav can be a pain if you are not good at reading maps, there is no map marker for the player so you have to rely on landmarks to find where you are. Didn't like it at first but am definitely glad I played it, it's now one of my favorites.

Balancing movement and stamina use while traveling and battling with or without your pack on is a constant process. While magic use requires careful prep like where to place your rune circle or totems (if you have the second? dlc) reminds me of some old mmo styled elements. The ability to start a new character and continue a previous characters bloodline while also inheriting potentially powerful story items from them is also really cool.

In Generation Zero, you're constantly roaming around a huge map while constantly watching out for robots, which can range from a couple to a large group of them per interaction, and they can also vary in size, from being as small as your feet to the size of a building. Some of the larger robots can also spawn smaller robots over and over again. As you roam around, you have no idea when or where they'll spawn, so you're always watching out for them. Just thought that I'd mention it.

Most of the time you only waste resources clearing nests and fighting hordes, for most of the game you aren’t missing resources. Also you usually have decent money to replenish at the camps.

I'm so frickn glad that Kenshi, Dragons Dogma, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. made this list. Great survival games and truly unique and challenging in their own right. Great list man.

I know it's not technically an open world but Destiny 2 has a fked up world. Planet destroying space monsters, planet eating insects and everything in between

Same. Ran out of gas at night right by a mass grave. I'm lookin for fuel, then freakers begin arriving... then more... and then more still. There I am, crouched in a bush, tryina figure a way out. See a couple freakers a bit by themselves. Decide to clear a path with a couple head shots... and I aim too low. I died horribly.

Kenshi is so hard but is one of the funnest games I’ve played in recent years. It’s really rewarding to finally get to a point you can fight back.

I've been watching these back to back and I realized that you guys should do a "TOP 10 Footage of people standing in front of someone who's shooting them while reloading". 4:18 is a good example

@@pickford3152 dude, you're crazy, I remember playing HALO 2 in 2016 for the first time along with The Witcher 3, and I couldn't play Halo 2 for a while bcz I got so immersed in TW3, When I finished TW3 and got back into HALO 2, I just sucked at it, what's worse was that I was in the middle of 'gravemind' when I abandoned it. so now I mostly always play 1 game at a time. I can go 2 or 3 if the games are not that difficult.

Horizon Zero Dawn, Ancestors the Humankind Odyssey, The Isle are 3 open world games I played that have dangerous worlds. And even though they aren't really "open world", I'd add any SCP games to the list, because you can't get more dangerous than that.

How was Fallout 1 and 2 not on this list? You can leave the starting vault, head out, and immediately get destroyed by radscorpions. Which was actually my first experience playing Fallout 1. Or even New Vegas where you can head the wrong way out of the starting town and get insta-killed by big wasp things. Or take a wrong turn off the beaten path and get killed by deathclaws.
