Games based on movies get a tough time from the gaming community, and not without good reason. Despite there being plenty of examples of movie-based games that turned out just fine, it's safe to say that most fail to get anywhere near their potential. The usual reason for this is time constraints. Publishers like to release movie games as close to the film as possible. These games however are different, as it took over a quarter of a decade for any of these movie games to materialise. So from The Warriors to The Wizard of Oz here are 10 Of The Longest Gaps Between Films And Their First Video Game Adaptations!

Wrong picture used for James Remar in the very first entry. Thats Michael Beck who played Swan
Technically there was a Fantasia game for the Atari 2600 in 1983 called “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” as well
Sounds like it's time to make a horror game in which a train comes towards the screen
I’m happy to see Ashton getting more videos lately. She deserves to be treated like a fully fledged member of the team as often as possible.
The problem with this list is once you open up the classic Disney vault, the list would be dominated by it. Alice in Wonderland Snow White Sleeping Beauty Cinderella 101 Dalmatians All these movies came out before 1970 and all have had video game adaptations of their Disney version.

@@dr.decker3623 Last time I checked, Nosferatu is not a classic Disney movie which was the point I was making. I did not say the list would only be Disney movies, but that a majority of it would.

Whoah, spoilers for the Pinocchio movie. I guess he turns into a real boy in the end? Thanks a lot Triple Jump, it's only been out for 82 years, some of us haven't gotten around to watching it yet. Now I guess there's no point.
Okay, that last joke at the end of the video caught me of guard.
Well this list aged immediately with the announcement of Killer Klowns from Outer Space The Game, coming in at 35 years from first release.

Fun Fact: The Wizard of Oz we all know is not the original. There is an older, black and white version of the movie that you can find probably find clips of on youtube and it is terrifying.

That is true. My guess is the MGM version with Judy Garland was used because it was the more known (plus the original was considered politically incorrect and ended on a cliffhanger).

'The Wizard of Oz' was not the first movie shot in Technicolor by a long shot. The first in any Technicolor process was 1917's 'The Gulf Between,' and the first in the well-remembered three-strip process was 1935's 'Becky Sharp.'
The Wizard of Oz was NOT the first movie shot in Technicolor. Even some films from the SILENT era had Technicolor segments. Also, there was an earlier Great Escape game in the eighties on the ZX Spectrum and C64.
You forgot one... Nosferatu Movie debut: 1922 Video game debut: 1994 (in Japan, American debut 1995) 72 years. Sorry, Hitchcock. You've been replaced.

Awesome vid! Fantasia was my guess for the longest gap before watching the list... that game was shockingly difficult, especially if, like me, you went into it expecting something fairly laid back along the lines of the Illusion games. I had no idea Pinocchio was made into a 16-bit platformer! 😀☺

I mean, someone’s gonna make a METROPOLIS game at some point, right? That came out in 1927, so any adaptation would beat the Vertigo record by some considerable amount. Like, it’s public domain. You could just go, y’know, make that game now.

isn't some young hollywood heartthrob doing a remake
Fun list! Wizard of Oz doesn’t belong, though-it was based on the book, not the movie. Others have mentioned The Italian Job at 32 years, and I’ll add Planet of the Apes-also 32 years. It came out near the release of the Burton reboot but was very much based on the Heston movies.
Very fun list! As always!
Raid adds are how you know that channel made it fr xD
This list started off with a banger! I would love a remake of The Warriors
One feature of the Pinocchio game was that you got to kill The Coachman.
Oh I loved The Warriors game I remember playing it alot when I was a youngling
Aye got that Raid Shadow Legends sponsor before Tom Campbell could lmao that's a huge achievement unlocked🥳

We will never play Raid Shadow Herpes. Glad you guys got a sponsor tho
when did the raid shadow legends film come out?
5:07 as a massive Godzilla fan it was really strange to see them choose Megalon and Kumonga as two of the monsters you’d have to battle. I suppose the Megalon was pushed pretty heavily in the USA but Kumonga’s film wasn’t very well like by most g-fans and general public alike.

@@Godzilla1982 agreed. It was nice to see Kumonga get some love but would have rather they switched Megalon for Gigan. (Gigan seems the most easy to adapt for this for game format and has more films to his résumé)
I mean, video games weren't really a thing that existed back when Walt Disney originally made Pinocchio and Fantasia. They did when I was growing up on Disney though, with Disney Interactive and all that. All those computer software games they were putting out at the time played as much a part in shaping my Disney childhood as watching their animated films on home video.
Damn you, I actually laughed at the popular/poplar joke.
What about the PSOne game based on the original Italian Job?
That wasnt a picture of James Remar, that was Michael Beck.
I knew From Russia with Love would be on the list lol
I'm surprised there was a Wizard of oz game but it reminds me that years ago I thought it would fit a America Mcgee's Alice themed game
4:09 if you can keep that greggs roll from bursting out one way or another you are plenty tough.
Wasn't Fantasia for the Genesis so bad that Disney ordered Sega to pull it from shelves just a couple of weeks after release?
@jeremyriley1238
Жыл бұрын
Not really. The reason Disney ordered Sega to pull the game from shelves was because an employee at Disney's licensing department accidentally licensed Fantasia to Sega, when then president Roy Disney promised his uncle Walt it would never happen. When Roy told them to recall the game, he assured them it was the fault of Disney, and he granted them further license to make exclusive games based on their properties.
@Marc_Araujo

@@jeremyriley1238 Oh ok. U thought it was because how bad it was and Disney wanted to save face.
A couple of goofs. First, the Michael Beck/James Remar mix-up in The Warriors image. Second, calling Megalon (the giant insect monster) a Megalodon (giant prehistoric shark). Though, now I want to see Godzilla fight one of those.
There's a Nosferatu (1922) game for the SNES, but I'm guessing it had nothing to do with the movie lol.
0:00 Dude lowkey looks like Liquid Chris.
how could you do Godzilla dirty like this!!! 5:05 HIS NAME IS MEGALON!!! THERE IS NO D IN THE NAME! Why must this poor creature keep suffering!

8:54 "the game wasn't received particularly well" it's literally 7/10??
Can you do a video on top ten paid promotions?
Woah, woah, woah, did you *really* call fantasia “just a bunch of music videos”?
Great Escape was a speccy game in the '80s.
This list could have been even longer
The Godzilla one feels like cheating, since it's based the Godzilla from later films, and uses villains from them.
Those color dream bible games nes/Noah's Ark(silent movie 1928 game late 80s) by color dreams should've been added for the lols (: 🤷🏽♀️ That vertigo license Smh
Erm actually… (sorry) I had The Great Escape on the Commodore 64 in the 80s. I mean it might not have been a game of the movie but there was definitely a game of the same name about trying to break out of a POW camp. I remember it being good if a bit hard.

@@LeifGrahamsson the original artist... Of space invaders? Tomohiro Nishikado. Yeah. He says that one of the alien designs was inspired by the description of the aliens of the story. But also, take into account the rest of the inspiration for the creation of the game: Nishikado said he had a dream about Japanese school children who are waiting for Santa Claus that were attacked by invading aliens. He was also directly inspired by other games like Space Monsters, Gunfight, and Breakout. And stories like Star Wars and Space Battleship Yamato. So, again, it's really hard to say that the whole game itself was based on one thing, specifically War of the Worlds, either the Book or movie. But like you said, it is certainly a fascinating subject.
Lol I didn't realize there was a Godfather game long before the 2006 game, in 1991 on Amiga/Atari ST/Dos. Still a good 19 years. But come on now who thinks about that game lol. The PS2 game had a good 34 years between it and the OG movie.
The Warriors on XBOX absolutely made me late teens

What about Snow White?
Weird shot at Fantasia, a film that was in the 100 films of all time list and is still loved by millions (So much so it's got it's own super7 toy line) as a film that's just a bunch of classical music videos and only remembered for the sorcerers apprentice.

Vertigo does not count the game story has nothing to do with movie
So "Seven Samurai the game" basically tells another movies story "The Golden Child" with Eddie Murphy instead of using the premise that Ashton eluded to being borrowed from most famously "The Magnificent Seven" and other good movies. Man how these "Gaming" companies just can't follow Rockstar and "The Warriors" template I'll never understand. Doesn't have to be open world, but to try and put effort into some of these worlds that Millions and multiple generations adore?
Nah the Fantasia slander was unnecessary. Whoever wrote the script for this only exposed their ignorance.

Absolutely and utterly maddened by this fantsia slander. Deeply disappointing
A character actor that’s done everything from a Hellraiser sequel to Sex And The City and you couldn’t find the correct picture?
was it really necessary to hate on Fantasia?
You can rightly sod off by dismissing the greatest technical achievement in animation history as "classical music videos." There's being a snark, and there's being a country cousin. Fire whomever wrote this.
No Godfather or Godfather II? Or Scarface? Shame, Triplejump, shame!
Everytime a channel I like promotes Raid Shadow Legends I die a little bit inside. :(
The Godzilla one feels like a stretch considering it's not based on a specific movie, but rather a franchise and that franchise had a movie come out the same year as the video game to start a new era of the franchise.
Legally speaking, 63 years is an easy record to beat between a movie and a video game adaptation.
I hope Raid paid a lot. I never pinned you guys for promoting a fee-to-play mobile shtshow. No hate though get paid. 🤑
That killer clowns 🤡 from outer space video game announcement was a surprise also for a part 2
Skip to 3:00 to avoid the crappy pay to win sponsor promotion 👍 Fantasia was re released in cinemas to correspond to the 50th anniversary, so you don't have to be 80+ to remember it. It's also fantastic throughout even if you don't appreciate the classical music (which you should)
