    Tunisian crochet was my 'gateway' into traditional crochet. I couldn't grasp traditional crochet because it's very freestyle compared to the back-and-forth of Tunisian. It made all the difference once my brain recognised the stitches as, essentially, 3D rather than a flat piece. I really enjoy being able to do both styles now 🥰 Great video as always, thank you Tuula!

    Thank you! Great that you enjoy both crochet styles now! I had crocheted normally quite a few years before trying Tunisian crochet. It was only when I learned that you can do it in the round with double-ended hooks that I really fell in love with it! 😊

    Beautiful and very informative! Thank you! I have a question, however. When you’re doing the “Reversible Textured Stitch”, you commented that, if you had crocheted too many foundation stitches, you could take them out later. Can you please explain how to do that? I’ve been crocheting for over 40 years, but never learned that was possible!!!

  • @TuulaMaaria

    @TuulaMaaria

    4 ай бұрын

    Oh yes! What I simply mean there is that when making something where the exact number of stitches doesn't matter, like a blanket, scarf etc and where the multiple of stitches in the pattern is not very large, max 6 or 7, I simply make a chain that is at least long enough, without counting the stitches in the chain. Then when I start crocheting I crochet until I get enough multiples done, without caring if that will be exactly the number of chains or if there will be 1,2,3,4 etc chains left. I don't start a new mulpiple of the stitch pattern, instead, pick the unnecessary chain stitches out afterwards.

    The sample I'm making for the shell stitch is DK weight yarn and the hookbis either 3 or 3.5 mm, I'm not at home so I could check what size that colour hook is! But you can make it in any yarn, just have to have a hook that goes with your yarn.

    Thank you for the tutorial, I don't see a link or description of the crochet hooks?

    I don't know what that puffy square stitch is called either but I would call it a basket puff stitch, lol.

    Yes, it could be called that! There probably are a few names, just haven't found them!

    Not sure what that allergy is, sorry! For many people with allergies, organic cotton works.

    Instead of doing the t-shirt yarn in a round, can you make squares?

  • @TuulaMaaria

    You could but I have never made them, would need to try out what amounts of stitches would be needed. I have done it back and forth, that way can be either square or rectangular, this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZJmqrK2llKTFmtY.html

    I have done this t-shirt rug in a rectangle crocheting back and forth, on this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZJmqrK2llKTFmtY.html. It could also be done in the round for a rectangle but I haven't tried how many stitches you would need in the corners.

    Does it matter how you turn your yarn at the end of a row? I see you do it like turning a page in a book while others do it the opposite.

  • @TuulaMaaria

    Yes, it does matter, the edge is smoother when you turn like a book. If you turn the other way round, the yarn stays in front of your work and easily pulls on the other stitches and creates a sligthly more uneven edge. I only saw anyone turning that way for the first time about a year ago though, it had never come to my mind to turn like that!
